Please do check out Morgan Nicholls, as I vividly remember being stood with NMAs manager at a festival, and him being so blown away that he was way better than Morrow. x
I was fourteen when I watched one of my Dad's mate's videos taped off tv music shows. He wrote the names of the songs and artists and timings as well. Except for a question mark in the middle. I had to know what it was so i fast-forwarded to it out of curiosity and New Model Army played a 3 song set of Christian Militia, Smalltown England and one other song. I was hooked from that day and bought Vengeance immediately and No Rest For The Wicked soon after. They changed my life.
was 12 when this Album came out but vividly remember my older sisters playing it.. loved it then and still love it now.. And being a Bass Player appreciate it more, driving Bass thrashing and nice acoustic breaks too plus fabulous lyrics that are still as relative today.. NMA rock! enjoy it as often as possible..
@@HobosCrafting Killing Joke stylistically similar? I don't think so. If somebody wants to listen to similar NMA music they should look for Midnight Oil. And maybe U2, but only the years 1980 - 1987. Because Killing Joke never made long, narrative lyrics and their music sounded rather dark/goth. The songs of Midnight Oil and New Model Army can be played in everyday radio programme, Killing Joke songs not. [By the way, if you've never heard them and click trough their music on youtube: Midnight Oil changed their style very often: from 1978 - 1981 it was punk-rock (Album Head injuries, Midnight Oil, Place without a postcard), from 1982 - 1984 it was pop-rock with 80ies synthsounds (albums 10,9,8 and Red sails in the sunset), from 1987 - 1996 it was clean pop-rock without synthsounds (Diesel & Dust, Blue Sky Mining, Breathe, Earth& Sun), in 1998 with typical 90ies synthsounds (Redneck Wonderland) and in 2002 back to typical Midnight Oil tunes with Capricornia ]

I used to listen to this all the time in 1984. Sound so good!!! - Saw them perform in the anti poll tax protest in Leeds 1986? when there was a riot they didn't play the track Vengeance again til 1989. Great band!!
cool dude, i was there in leeds that day, loved this album since 84. seen them a few times since, king georges hall, Blackburn, there from Bradford anyway
Thanks for putting this up. I have the vinyl still, but too precious to play. Nice to spend half an hour going back 30ish years to my teens and those great nights. Amazing how a series of lyrics that were just rebellious back then are so relevant to where the world is today.
I got to discover these guys in the early 90s because in my country the punk scene was dire but it was still a thrilling time to get into them. Lots to think about when listening to the lyrics. Great memories!
@@TheArrow1987 Oh so only 'half' punk then? Man, the media make the labels not the bands or the following. I'm not having a go I promise, and yes of course NMA came after the initial punk thing had moved on but really its all one and the same thing. Just different angles.
Great english band this bunch, had the real pleasure of being amongst a van full of small town punks that made it to one of the venues nr Croydonish I think. Top, top night!!! Funny when yr sitting on Court benches, Sweat boxes & Bunks how: " What Gigs you been to?" comes around real quick.
Thank you sepultura for making track this down in 93 when you covered"the hunt" on your chaos a.d. album. I had no idea they existed and you opened up a ton of metal heads to a great fuckin band ✌️
Your comment reminded me that my introduction to NMA was also through Sepultura. In 1992 MTV Brasil had a program where artists would choose and show their favorite videos, and one of videos Max and Igor chose was 51st State of America.
Christian Militia, Vengeance & Smalltown England are the outstanding tracks on the album. The first Indie band I saw in 1985 at Coventry Poly...a great experience! 👍🏽
It reminds me of Bruce Foxton from The Jam. The Guitar is quite sparse. One of the most Bass Driven Albums i`ve heard. Top 20,maybe. Ha ha. I have got about 100 Albums that i would love to squeeze in to that group. Saw them at Glastonbury when this was Their only Album,so They played it all. Fucking Amazing
Good stuff! Loads of Happy memories! Took a "big fat "Energy pill' and saw them live in London! Me melted!! They played for a good 2 hours!!,Brilliant!!
Even though I was already a fan seeing them live blew me away even though it was later in their career..prbly will remain one of the top 10 live bands I'll see in my lifetime. I don't use that statement lightly either. After seeing literally thousands of bands in the past 30 odd yrs..
Soy de Chile, los escuché por primera vez en 1991 en un programa radial que se llamaba "Música Marginal", siento no haberlos valorado y disfrutado más en esr momento, absorto en mis bandas favoritas Joy Division, Siouxsie, Etc.
I picked up a Test Pressing of this album (for $1) at Mill City Sound in Hopkins, MN this past weekend. It only said "Test Pressing" on both sides of the album. The album cover was all white, and there was a blue Post-It note that simply said New Model Army on it. Had to try it out, of course, and loved what I heard!!
I hated this band when they came out! So glad my taste has changed, they have some brilliant tracks. Time for me to explore further. Thanx for posting this.
Lucky to see them many years ago at The Roxy in L.A. and at The Coach House here in S. California more recently. I lugged all my 80's vinyl with me to the last show for signing. I really love it if they played here again! Hint, hint, hint NMA.
Thanks for sharing. Great band, great album! Irony is that I live in Drogheda and we were visited by the original New Model Army, with disastrous results! LOL
In 1649 Oliver Cromwell came to Ireland with his New Model Army to hunt down Royalist sympathisers and, infamously, massacred many in my hometown of Drogheda and elsewhere.
I was blown away when I heard Stuart Morrows bass playing on this album, its just my opinion but I never thought they were the same after he was binned and I kinda lost interest after that.Maybe im shallow,i frankly don't give a fk,I just know I love this album and thanks for posting and reminding me of a good time in my life..cheers !

Seriously. Learning other people's basslines has its challenges. Some of these songs I wouldn't even try.
Agree its great, but unmatched??? Not sure.
Masterpiece!!! The bass is amazing!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love the bass!
I was first introduced to NMA the same year I started playing bass- so yeah, Stuart Mortow is definitely an idol of mine!!
All of us here I think.

What's called a true hidden gem. It crackled and popped back in the day and still does now. Still depressingly on point lyrically.
It is and that's so sad
"Spirit of the Falklands" - the best song in album!
Brought this when it was first released and its still one of my all time favourite. Fucking awesome Justin is a lyricist genius.

This is the best punk album I've ever heard -- dark, fervent, sharp & rhythmic
not punk, post-punk. I love that often in post-punk the bass guitar plays almost the most important role.
