Einmal im Jahr verwandelt sich das Kölner Palladium normalerweise in einen dampfenden Hexenkessel, denn New Model Army geben ihr Weihnachtskonzert. Ihr 40-Jahre-Jubiläumskonzert hatte aber wegen Corona zwei Jahre in Folge verschoben werden müssen. Am 16. und 17. Dezember 2022 konnte es endlich stattfinden: ein fünfstündiges Konzert über zwei Abende mit komplett unterschiedlichen Sets.
Sie sind wohl die Band mit den treuesten Fans des Planeten: New Model Army. Die Truppe aus Bradford wurde 2020 bereits stolze 40 und ist sich in all den Jahren treu geblieben: Ohne jede Anbiederung an den Mainstream, an musikalische oder sonstige Moden, haben New Model Army schon immer wie aus der Zeit gefallen gewirkt. Dabei sind die Texte von Mastermind, Sänger und Gitarrist Justin Sullivan stets aktuell und als Kommentar zum Zeitgeschehen zu verstehen. Nicht wenige davon - über Umweltzerstörung ("White Coats"), Protestbewegungen ("You Weren't There") oder Entfremdung ("Family") haben sich als prophetisch erwiesen.
Doch obwohl Justin Sullivan in den Medien immer wieder als Mahner beschrieben wird, ist er in Wahrheit ein humorvoller, geselliger und freundlicher Zeitgenosse, der das Leben in vollen Zügen genießt. In Deutschland hat Sullivan seit vielen Jahren enge Freunde, und die Band aus Nordengland kommt immer wieder gerne nach Köln, um dort ihr Tourjahr mit einer gigantischen, zwei Tage dauernden Party mit ihren Fans zu beenden.

Love Justin and this band, been following them from Texas since day one, 1980. Amazing pure, true, talent. You just really feel it!
My most loved band over the years.
I had justin sign his photo in like 1989. when they probably first toured Germany in a small white van they called a tour bus. someone had written new model army on it with a permanent marker.
He still always gets me with his music.

Ich liebe NMA seit dem ich 16 bin. Bis ich Justins Lyrics begegnet bin habe ich geglaubt, ich bin völlig alleine und verloren in dieser komplett wahnsinnigen, von Menschen gemachten Welt. Thx NMA ihr habt mich gerettet ❤
Exakt meine Geschichte, ohne NMA hätte ich mich noch mehr verloren gefühlt. So gaben sie einem das Gefühl, nicht alleine zu sein. Und das funktioniert bis heute.
recording quality is great! lovely long show with lots of older and new tracks. Love NMA could not believe many years ago they came to my home town which was a location that no band would ever include in their tour, I think the gig labelled "Justin and friends" rather than New Model Army at the time rtaht. Great experience and a very small venue made it special.

I think NMA in Paris for their 25 years (I think? or 30 maybe?) is the only concert (well, two actually) where I shed a tear, or had to fight my tears away maybe... Two sold-out shows in succession, not one song in common in both setlists, Justin opening on guitar by himself and incorporating each band member seamlessly into the whole band. Brilliant.

I love NMA and I love their fans. You can't separate them. If you meet an NMA fan anywhere in the world, you automatically know that you share a very specific worldview. A lot of us are getting on a bit now, but still... family and tribe.

I wished id seen that one!!! I saw them on the 26th at the wulfrun in wolves which is a small venue, it was fantastic, old faces, nostalgia etc set list was a bit new for me still nothing to complain about but this would be perfect ! Those first 5 albums mean so much to me, not like a band, means a lot more. lol i remember skiving off school and catching the train to bradford to get my cloggs !! Cloggs !! I d rather be in a band that has what they have than all the money in the world!! I had a ticket to see them at the hummingbird in birmingham and i sold my ticket and cloggs when they released love of hopeless causes !! What an silly little shit lol
