    100V line operation also means you can have different loudness in different areas, simply by choosing the appropriate power tap. As well you can use really cheap cable, I have run old phone cabling for this, and it worked very well, though do not run it in a Telkom conduit, they tend to be rather unhappy about finding 100V with a butt set. You also can add on easily, add up the speaker wattages, and so long as it is less than the amplifier total you will be fine, no complex impedance calculations to make.
    Those speakers can sound reasonable, provided you have enough ceiling space, though they will never give good bass response, and the high end is always lacking, but in general good enough for background music and speech.
    I will bet though that that choke was wound with aluminium wire, along with the output transformer, it is common to have that occur with all products, as that CCA wire is good enough now even in the cheap grades to do the job short term.
