I have the exact same amp with the exact same symptoms and decided to search for amp repair videos on RUclips. I was completely blown away when this was the first video that come up in the results list! Thanks Dave for taking the time to make the video, I think it will save me a lot of time troubleshooting the amp.
Same I was shredding on guitar then my behringer ultra bass bx1200 died while playing The Call Of Ktulu I was so easy on the strings then I heard a loud noise it happened today.
you got lucky steve... my crate GLX212 combo is messed up & after 10 min. or so, the sound just fades away, like somebody was slowly turning down the volume knob. i turn off the amp fir about 15 min. and it comes on & plays normally , for about 15 min. ive look & watched every vid on you tube & i only find reviews & closely similar amps.
I have a behringer ultrabass3000 that mysteriously went dead on me mid show a few years ago that I just stuffed into a closet and replaced that I am gonna dig out today and work on! Thanks! Literally the exact same problem you had.
Thanks for sharing! I just got one of these, and gadzooks, it's a heavy beast! I have yet to fire it up, but, after watching this video, it gives me confidence to troubleshoot should it not output as expected. That speaker has such a massive magnet! I also got the footswitch; I'm wondering what an external speaker will sound like, like a 15" or a 4 x 10" cab would sound like? Long ago I had a Kustom bass amp that had an intermittent problem. Turned out it had a loose cap inside, and after a bit of fresh solder, a dab of hot glue, and a zip-tie, all was good! Am considering adding a speaker output jack to my BX1000 to allow for connection to a different cab. New subscriber! Now, to watch your other videos...
I was asked to try to fix a dropped BX1800 that had no output. I found the problem, and tried, for six weeks, to get a replacement board thru the "Music Tribe" support outlet that's supposed to support Behringer equipment. Finally I got the part, only to find out it was the wrong part. It took another three weeks to get an RMA and ship it back. Strange--I was given the shipping label and RMA, then was asked to Track the part and Call THEM when the part arrived at their Las Vegas shop. Altogether, a useful lesson on the quality of support to expect for Behringer products that made a me decide to avoid, and not recommend, Behringer products.
Not in this case but when you've found a blown fuse, you've not found the problem yet. Those big electrolytic capacitors in the power supply do not usually short, they dry up and go open. And the fan removes heat from the heat sink area by pushing it out of the cabinet. They are DC and you should measure some resistance across them.
I'm way late the comment section......... I fix amps, and I think this is a reasonable effort for a rookie. If you want to learn amp repair, my channel is half as useful as other amp repair channels.
Behringer is not made for eternity! The small potis on this amps are so cheap and garbadge. Don't try to repair this one, because you destroy more while trying to work with a soldering heater. You'll damadge more than repair it! Mostly the potis cracks or speaker/cable are defect! Without any additional preamp/compressor or effect boards they sound so quiet and fully ugly! This Vid helps very good!!
I have the exact same amplifier bx 1200 behringer and it produces a loud hum when turned on. Even without a bass plugged. Any ideas? Everything works fine except from the humming
It is Open not blown....the voice coil determines the Ohms of the coil within the super structure (magnet), sometimes variations of reading because the burn may not be severe. Typically a quick check is push the cone into the structure, and listen for a scratch or no movement at all...
Hi Tim. Good question. Three reasons: First, the fan wasn’t coming on and I was under the incorrect assumption that it was supposed to start spinning upon initial power up. I was looking for the cause of that too. Second, the video wasn’t just about showing how to find out what was wrong with this particular amp, it was about showing steps you can take to narrow down the possible issues. There were a couple of steps I performed in this video that I would have skipped if I hadn’t been making the video. But simply unplugging a speaker, testing continuity, then changing a cable doesn’t make for an interesting video. Third, all the stuff I work on in my videos is mine and part of the process for me is cleaning up the amp. So although I didn’t show it (I do on other videos) the amp was torn down as part of the cleaning I did. Thanks.
I bought a behringer 5 watt infinitum head. Registered it for warranty before it actually shipped. Never heard from them. Never could get through on the phone. Well it just quit in the middle of a session sitting on standby. No one could troubleshoot it, at least at the time no schematics on the net. Was a great sounding little amp but I will never buy from them or other bargain based outfits again. Someday I'll get around to building a point to point out of it but I'd rather be just playing.
Check your connections for the reverb and clean out the switches and pots. Hopefully, the reverb tank isn’t shot. Check out my channel and look through the service videos. I did videos for a Peavey amp, for a Crate amp, and for a Univox amp. I think those will show how I service solid state amps. Good luck!
Start with the simplest first. 1. Is the fuse blown? 2. Is the switch getting power? 3. Is the transformer getting power? 4. Is the transformer putting out power? See if all of those things are doing what they’re supposed to. Zero power would normally mean that it’s one of those. Good luck!
@@davetriestofixstuff4744 the power cable is fixed does not detach My amp is the one that has fdd No tubes inside But I did read there may be a fuse inside Sounds like a stupid design
@@davetriestofixstuff4744 I replaced the power switch and fuse nothing and when I pulled out board carefully the main volume pot snapped the transformer must be bad had to piss off amp keep it for parts I bought a Marshall code 25 cheap $152.00 Marshall is worthless for parts support and not even a schematic is available anywhere
My amp is making like obvious static noises and the amp makes a noise when I play the strings (static scratch noise) but not the actual sound idk what to do!?
I can’t say for sure without having it in my bench, but I would say it sounds like the main electrolytic capacitors on the power rail need to be replaced. Sometimes you can tell if they’ve gone bad by checking them for bulging and/or leaking on the board.
i’m new to all of this but i just got a harley benton guitar and a first act m2a-110 amp and the amp isn’t turning on at least i think it ain’t i don’t have a cord to plug the guitar into the amp yet i’m getting one soon but the light ain’t turning on for the amp
I have been buying GRS replacements from parts express for my fender rumble bass amps. The grs brand has hefty magnets and are far better than the fender speakers, and similar to the behringer speaker in the bx-1000; plus they are a very affordable option. However the dayton audio version, though more $ has a longer warranty.
Bought one working for 60. Speaker jack broke so my dumb ass goes to replace the jack, then one very tiny curl of smoke it's toast. I have built several tube amps from scratch and feel very confident in my ability, my advice if it works leave it alone. Don't ruin it like I did.
That's a pretty broad question without knowing anymore about it. If it's the distortion built in on your amp, try cleaning all the buttons, pots, jacks, etc... using deoxit or something similar. Good luck!
The fan does not come on at power up. Or it would stay on all day and night. It comes on at just past running temperature. Every adios amp is the same. Nice video though.. peace
These amps are notoriously blowing fuses. I have the identical amp. Same problem as this guy has. Change the fuse! And I’m pretty sure the fan runs on a thermostat.
Cricket the fuse didn’t blow. It was a bad plug end on the speaker cable. My bass player has actually been using this amp at rehearsals for over a year without any issues since. Not the greatest bass tone in the world, but I’ve been impressed with its ability to keep up during a rehearsal with a full band.
Dave Tries To Fix Stuff Yeah I use it in a home studio. I find it a great little amp. Went through a fuse blowing stage. Changed the type of fuse and no problems since. Great tutorial! I will use it for future reference. 👍🏻 Thanks.
I don’t think you understood the purpose of the video. That said, I’m sure you’ve made a much better video on your channel showing how to troubleshoot an amp. Feel free to post a link to it here.

To have a working amp you need: a working amp
you have to work for amp
All good stuff.. Finding one fault doesn't mean it's all that was wrong, so your strip-down and check of the amp was justified in my opinion..

Hi, I’m an. Amp tech in SoCal. I was wondering why you didn’t just plug in a new speaker before you tore the amp down?. That was step # 3

Great stuff!
What if someone lost the power cord. Is there a way you can make one for it
You could make one, but it's way cheaper to just buy one. Monoprice sells them, and they are available on ebay; the BX-1200 uses an IEC power cable.
Do dirty pots cause that crackle on the dials?
avega2792 yes, crackle when you turn a pot is an indication that it needs to be cleaned.
Yes they do yes they do indeed laugh out loud
I have a peavey 212 special and everything seemed to work out but my reverb and gain switches aren’t working right got any tips?
Check your connections for the reverb and clean out the switches and pots. Hopefully, the reverb tank isn’t shot.

Heya my behringer gm110 turns on and has no sound but if I switch it off it plays my guitar for a split second
