Brad, what's up bud! I know that you're into amps and stuff and have been recording things like that for a lot longer than I have. And I know that you're busy, and without shamelessly plugging myself, or my channel, is there any way you could give my newest song (uploaded tonight) a listen and see if you can give me any constructive criticism on how to improve recording tone? I just bought an SM57 and stand, and am running straight into my laptop with Garageband. I'm pretty new to mic'ing up cabs and stuff. Any help or input to improve recording quality to achieve the most organic tone would be great. Thanks! 🤘🏻
Same goes for anyone else on here. If you're into recording guitars, any input would be awesome. 👍🏻
I promise, I'm not plugging my channel, I'm genuinely seeking some help and input from folks far more advanced and experienced with recording than myself.

OMFG the bass chops - really mad - now hey Brad how about a discussion of GA 9 single ended with 2 power tubes in parallel? Class A so no phase inversion? My buddy here in Scotia has one and the tone & volume are wild - what gives, o wise Guitologist? How easy to make one of these, instead of a Champ?

Agreed! We live in a disposable society to most...Because nobody has been taught how to work with their hands and how to fix and repair things. I was brought up turning wrenches with my dad and grandad, so I've always fixed my own stuff, if I was able to. Some thing are "above my pay grade", but most things I can fix myself. I do all my own guitar repair, soldering, parts swapping, setups, etc... It's very satisfying knowing how to do all this work yourself. Saves you TONS of money, and allows you the freedom to modify your own gear anytime you want. 👍🏻

    • @charlierain

as a current fender dealer i can confirm that on these amps the cost of repair would be more than the value of the amp even in fender's opinion. Our store has had a couple of bad starter amps like this that fender simply tells us to throw away and they send us a new one. we always take the knobs, grill covers, sometimes even speakers off before chunking them though, anything we can use or reuse, we salvage.

Great to see TJ ! My oldest son (he was 3, now 41) decided that the headphone jack on my stereo was where crayons go. I had about decided to trash the thing, when my 1st wife said "Last week he kept bringing me broken crayons... could that be...?) I stood the stereo on it's face and used her blow dryer on the jack. Sure enough 3 different colors came out. After it stopped dripping I used a small stick brush and presto, got my headphone jack... back.

From Leo: I stock the 4 pin and 9 pin fender jacks in my shop. Those junky plastic PC mount jacks are troublesome for both switching contacts and cracking. The Marshall style are not much better but you can access the place to clean them with a burnishing tool and save a lot of soldering.

My son got a Rumble 15 in a package deal with his bass, and it failed shortly after getting it. The innards are a little different. The power circuit board and other electronics are not on separate boards. Anyway, this video helped if for no other reason that I knew exactly which screws to remove to get it open. I found the fuse blown. I am waiting on new fuses to arrive, and hope it fixes it. Of course, you need to wonder why the fuse blew, but my son says he was initially using some sketchy cables. Fender quickly sent a replacement amp, so this one is a spare.

I bought the rumble 40 last summer for practicing my bass in my cabin.
My remote cabin is lite by low wattage lightbulbs, boom box and powered by deep cycle batteries, charged every other day by gas generator.
I don’t like earphones and a typical 100 watt bass amp would drag the batteries down in one hour.
A little 15 watt output Ibanez practice amp,(19 watt power draw) sounds okay plugged into a big 15 inch allumitone driver, but lacks power when jamming with others.
My new rumble 40 sounds good and has the power, but because of warranty, I’ve yet to wire in an external speaker jack.
The problem is the wattage draw climbs around 40 plus or minus 5 watts, forcing greater battery drainage!
I would have bought the rumble 25
But 6.5 “ speakers don’t cut it and the 25 has a three band EQ, while my 40 has a four band.
One guy who purchased the 40 didn’t like the driver and replaced it with a 4 ohm driver, while the original is 8.
If I replace the driver with a four will that double the output and drop the wattage draw for a given volume?
Also my alumitone 15 is very efficient, but it’s also 8 ohm, so if I wire it parallel with the combo’s driver, I’d end up with a 4ohm load and perhaps save electricity.
Perhaps this amp can’t handle a 4 ohm load?

Great fix, I've been out of the electronics game for a long time though as its difficult to make a living. In the UK we call those poor solder connections dry joints. It's a very common fault as you know when sockets are soldered directly to a PCB. Love your channel. Wow, your pal is a wicked bass player.

Thanks Brad! I figured that the problem would be something simple like cold solder joints.

I like your friend TJ playing his Kiesel "Thanos"..."Fanos" (?).
    Just can't understand it.
Yeah, I still have a SB 5000 5 string Jazz and love the tone and playing feel of those old Carvin basses. And the new Kiesel stuff.
I tradet the SB 5000 for my old Warwick Streamer Stage I and some dough, loved the tone of the Warwick but didn't like the thin neck anymore.
First I was a bit sceptic about the upper horn of the bass....
But in no time I got used to the unconventional shape and fell in love with the tone, the feel of the neck and that the tone knob is working when the active preamp is in use.
I have a Haeussel Jazz 5 active, built in the 1980's, that has a similar bridge and literally the same saddle with the set screws. No double ball end strings needed, what is a huge advantage for this 5 string bass.
You just loosen the thumbscrews at the bridge, hang in the ball end, straighten the string and tighten the headless locking screw. Only few turns of the thumb screw at the bridge, and you are good to go.
Because this system gives you a perfectly straight string you maybe have to tune it only once when the strings are proper stretched, given the locking screws are tight, but not too tight. Then the bass holds the tuning absolute perfect.

Always good to see something that was headed for the landfill, being recycled and put to good use again. Would be an ideal practice amp at home for a bassist....

I’ve found a Traynor YGL3 MKIII head and matching 4x12 cab driving by a dumpster, it was loaded with 4 Telefunken EL-34’s, that was a good find.

    We have a Rumble 40.
Incredibly lightweight, loud enough, and even has enough treble available to amplify voice and ukulele. I do play bass on it too. ;)
Our first one had a very similar issue, but would cut out at random. Brought it in to get fixed, and it now works nicely.
Those solder joints were tragic! Sheesh!

Glad someone else tries to fix cheap ones too......... most of the solutions are easy. One of my profit centers is to put an add on craigslist offering a little bit of cash for broken amps.... I got 3 of them in a week. Sell one at a fair street price and you're in the black already. I fixed a Fender, Marshall, and Bugera all in the term of the week. Some of the issues were EASY. Yeah, it's on my channel (shameless plug).

Having a little trouble with my Rumble 200 yesterday and might need to open it up. The input seems to be cutting in and out. Hoping it's a cable or dirty input jack, but barring that, it might be cold solder joints on the board where the jack is mounted. Thanks for the video, Brad...just wanted to get an idea of what I was in for. My amp is probably just a slightly bigger version of this one, and a lot of the parts might even be identical.

Hey Brad. Thanks for all these vids. I don’t know if these are bread and butter jobs for you but thanks for wrenching on some of these mega production amps. As sub par as they are, the vids are great for those of us learning to troubleshoot.
