I’m not fortunate enough to have a scale model traction engine or a fly press like yours but if 1 had both perhaps a strip of e.g. 50x4 flat bar could be “dimpled ? “ every day 2” along it’s length then wrapped round a welded boiler over the weld seam to make it look riveted ?
Sometimes these things don’t even need a use to justify them , there just ace 😁
