  • Another Amateur Blacksmith project…
Forging a bowl out of 4mm plate that I had kicking around.
I cut a 8¼ inches round using a plasma cutter and then form the bowl using a Norton No.8 Fly Press, 4 inch Ball Bearing, and Doming block.
The bowl has a lovely ring to it - very musical - You could almost call it a singing bowl.
I bought the doming block from Nigel Barnett of Forged Ironmongery: www.forged-iro...
The ball bearing came from www.ballandrol...

That has a very pleasing tone! I have a random lump of rusty chequer plate with a small 90' bend along one side that rings like that.

Really nice bowl. I like how you turned it into a bell that rings. If someone needed to replace a fly press counter weight, they could make two of these, weld them and fill them with lead. Many options and uses!

All I have is a Norton #3. But I'd love to see some videos on making tooling for the fly press. Do you have any jigs for quickly assembling the top tools nice and square?
