Midnights is her most cohesive album ever. Each track seamlessly blends into eachother and the sound is consistent. It’s my favorite album of hers I’m shocked that in retrospect so many people are still hating on it
The way the Grammys have snubbed Lana for years is so infuriating. She has dominated the alt genre. She redefined an entire genre of music and brought in an entirely new audience for it, all to get beaten by artists who were influenced by HER.
Miley deserved better than mid ass flowers. Plastic hearts deserved more. Lana had a great year, she deserved better. SOS deserved AOTY. Guts deserved best pop vocal. I think the main Grammy categories were voted based on what is predictable, marketable, safe, and based on how successful the artist is in their career
Not all the time though. Nobody was expecting Kacey Musgraves to win AOTY for Golden Hour over Dirty Computer (Janelle Monae) or Scorpion (Drake). Or even We are by Jon Batiste over Sour (Olivia Rodrigo) or Happier Than Ever (Billie Eillish). Politics play the most integral part in the decision-making process of the Grammy's voting system & it is quite hard to determine the components involved in each year's visions that they'd like to accomplish. But what's certain is really the white supremacy element that takes full effect especially in the main categories. I do believe that Midnights do not deserve AOTY over Lana or SZA either.

Midnights is just not as good as a whole body of work compared to her other albums, and albums she competed against this year. Anything Taylor puts out it’s a commercial success, but that does not mean everything is excellent. It’s not a terrible record is just not that amazing. Midnights is mostly recognized because of the success of her career and the eras tour. I don’t think it’s an album that can really stand by itself. It’s more of the person behind it. I remember saying to a friend last year, it was SO weird how miley dropped the best album of her career and it underperformed on charts as well as being shut out of award season. Then she leaves her label, signs a new deal, drops flowers and it instantly exploded with millions of streams on day one, I was like “where we’re all these millions of people when she dropped the equally good ‘midnight sky’?” That was so fishy. Endless Summer Vacation was also a weaker album than plastic hearts but got 6 Grammy nominations. Someone at her new label clearly knew how to get Miley back topping charts and network her those 2 Grammy wins. I feel like it’s taken a whole decade to get the stink of bangerz off and claw her way to legitimacy so I was really happy for her finally being embraced!

It's quite serendipitous how she manifested the Hannah Montana scene of receiving record of the year, which is now one of her very first Grammy's making it truthfully a full circle moment being awarded her flowers in the music industry❤
Lana wore all black and it turned out to be in mourning for another season of loss and dismissal. She wrote her heart into that album, opened up, gave us absolutely impeccable poetry in lyricism, varied production styles, she submitted, even campaigned. It was such a testament to Lana’s artistry, and would have been so nice to see her finally get the recognition for it. The other categories carried less weight for me, as long as she got AOTY because it truly was just that. Just because she doesn’t have the exposure of Taylor or Olivia, or SZA should not have been a factor on the clear merits her album had for winning AOTY. My biggest fear for Lana is that she will never be appreciated or recognized for the industry titan she has quietly been - at least until it’s too late. Truly a shame. Congrats to all the winners, though.
Taylor Swift is an incredible songwriter and businesswoman and I enjoy her music a lot (and have since before she went pop) and appreciate how calculated and merciless she is (there's also things I don't love but that doesn't matter) but I am getting some serious Taylor Swift fatigue. Midnights is faaaaar from her best work, Swifties acting like her announcing an album is literally solving world hunger is obnoxious and delusional, and her false modesty is getting old ("I don't need awards" then why do you submit your work for nomination?) as well as her constant need for sidekicks (god forbid she didn't have someone with her to outshine). The only thing I knew about the Grammy’s this year is that one of the winners called for a ceasefire, but that was overshadowed by Taylor Swift. I get she’s popular, but announcing her new album after winning feels a bit out of place to me.
When it comes to Record Of The Year, the focus will be the Commercial artists: I would have put Olivia Rodrigo - Vampire as the winner. Miley Cyrus was ok, but it did not blow me away. Winner of album of year confused me as Taylor Swift - Midnights was released in October 2022. Bend the rules, why not call the category, Album Of Over A Year. Personally, I felt Olivia Rodrigo - Guts was more suitable, especially as it was released in 2023. This is just an example how Grammys is a complete joke. Song of the year, Billie Eilish track is ok, not spectacular. Olivia Rodrigo has really been snubbed. How am I not surprised Metallica won best Metal performance. I am sad for Spiritbox as they have taken Metal to another level. Problem with Grammys they have a Best Rock Album, but don’t have Best Metal Album or Song category. Progressive R&B is "alternative" basically and I am glad it's there. So many artists, especially some amazing women, get shut out of deserved recognition because they aren't mainstream crossovers and are pushing the envelope.

The way the Grammys have snubbed Lana for years is so infuriating. She has dominated the alt genre. She redefined an entire genre of music and brought in an entirely new audience for it, all to get beaten by artists who were influenced by HER.
Miley deserved better than mid ass flowers. Plastic hearts deserved more. Lana had a great year, she deserved better. SOS deserved AOTY. Guts deserved best pop vocal.
And Taylor, I like her a lot actually, but fr can she stop dominating and let other artists shine? When she announced another album, I’m like oh my god here we go

Politics play the most integral part in the decision-making process of the Grammy's voting system & it is quite hard to determine the components involved in each year's visions that they'd like to accomplish. But what's certain is really the white supremacy element that takes full effect especially in the main categories. I do believe that Midnights do not deserve AOTY over Lana or SZA either.

@@Renegade-kf8fpyou could make the argument for her work on fearless being groundbreaking for a teenage girl to get so much recognition and appreciation for her skill. 1989 is pop Bible status and it’s an immensely career defining moment for Taylor, and Folklore being some her best writing and another big shift in her career released at the perfect time for her and the consumers. Midnights is just not as good as a whole body of work compared to her other albums, and albums she competed against this year. Anything Taylor puts out it’s a commercial success, but that does not mean everything is excellent. It’s not a terrible record is just not that amazing. Midnights is mostly recognized because of the success of her career and the eras tour. I don’t think it’s an album that can really stand by itself. It’s more of the person behind it. But I do see how the comment above feels like it really discredits Taylor as an artist. It’s 2024 it’s not cool to deny her skill as a business woman and artist. However her new album looks super interesting, even more detail oriented than midnights.

I remember saying to a friend last year, it was SO weird how miley dropped the best album of her career and it underperformed on charts as well as being shut out of award season. Then she leaves her label, signs a new deal, drops flowers and it instantly exploded with millions of streams on day one, I was like “where we’re all these millions of people when she dropped the equally good ‘midnight sky’?” That was so fishy. Endless Summer Vacation was also a weaker album than plastic hearts but got 6 Grammy nominations. Someone at her new label clearly knew how to get Miley back topping charts and network her those 2 Grammy wins. I feel like it’s taken a whole decade to get the stink of bangerz off and claw her way to legitimacy so I was really happy for her finally being embraced!

Lana wore all black and it turned out to be in mourning for another season of loss and dismissal. She wrote her heart into that album, opened up, gave us absolutely impeccable poetry in lyricism, varied production styles, she submitted, even campaigned. It was such a testament to Lana’s artistry, and would have been so nice to see her finally get the recognition for it. The other categories carried less weight for me, as long as she got AOTY because it truly was just that. Just because she doesn’t have the exposure of Taylor or Olivia, or SZA should not have been a factor on the clear merits her album had for winning AOTY. My biggest fear for Lana is that she will never be appreciated or recognized for the industry titan she has quietly been - at least until it’s too late. Truly a shame. Congrats to all the winners, though.
