I think that painting someone as a complete angel is just as bad as painting them to be the devil. As someone who is neither a fan nor an anti-fan, Selena's popularity has never made sense to me and I don't think it ever will. Lastly, as someone who is often told how nice I am, I have felt that it suffocates me. While I think kindness is more than valuable, I would never make "niceness" my moto and I don't advise it for anyone.

I used to like her (and still do) but when I was watching this part, even I felt that it was kind of tone deaf on Selena's part to respond that way. Granted everyone has problems and to each person, their own problem might be a mountain, but then you also have to be self aware and separate yourself from whoever you're interacting with. And in this case, the girl was talking about living in really difficult circumstances and not having access to education and how her faith in God gave her hope and stuff like that, and I think 'finding love' was the least of her problems at that point. So Selena saying that was pretty disconnected and tone deaf. I think fame makes celebrities live in a bubble and disconnected from reality. I've also heard that it's a kind of trauma that arrests people mentally at the age that they became famous (they don't tend to grow a lot after that), which is why they need to actively work to be more self aware and in touch with ground realities, more than anyone else. Also, I think Selena is still really hung up on her heartbreak and that's why 'love' was the most significant thing she could discuss with that girl. Even if she's out of the JB situation (physically), she needs to get out of it for good (mentally and in any other way she's tied to it) and move on and find her happy place elsewhere.

Maybe she's gained a lot of respect from people for having a really severe life threatening illness, for going through a transplant, for facing all her health issues along with the bodily changes from the medications (prednisone is one of the most awful medications, I know from my own experience), and keeping herself vulnerable and composed and also- continuing to work because she still can, and it's all based on talent. I used to like her (and still do) but when I was watching this part, even I felt that it was kind of tone deaf on Selena's part to respond that way.
Granted everyone has problems and to each person, their own problem might be a mountain, but then you also have to be self aware and separate yourself from whoever you're interacting with. And in this case, the girl was talking about living in really difficult circumstances and not having access to education and how her faith in God gave her hope and stuff like that, and I think 'finding love' was the least of her problems at that point. So Selena saying that was pretty disconnected and tone deaf.
I think fame makes celebrities live in a bubble and disconnected from reality. I've also heard that it's a kind of trauma that arrests people mentally at the age that they became famous (they don't tend to grow a lot after that), which is why they need to actively work to be more self aware and in touch with ground realities, more than anyone else.
Also, I think Selena is still really hung up on her heartbreak and that's why 'love' was the most significant thing she could discuss with that girl. Even if she's out of the JB situation (physically), she needs to get out of it for good (mentally and in any other way she's tied to it) and move on and find her happy place elsewhere.
