I love that when he walks towards Helen, his footsteps have NO sound, signifying his status as rumor and a mythology powered by superstition come to life. That is such a great level of detail in filmmaking!
The whole movie is a horror masterpiece. Little subtle details like that make all the difference. You don't even really notice some of them til afterwards or you watch it again.
I just like this scene all together considering how his voice has a power and passion in it when calling Helen's name and just how he approached her as in its me, im the one you are looking for especially the reveal of his gory hook
I was about to say that. It's not hard to come up with something creepy or horrifying. But Tony Todd just has this alluring presence that sucks you in, making you partly forget the danger his character presents.
Childhood horror at its finest. Candyman's voice comes at me from every angle and literally sends chills down my spine. The horror movies of today? Most of them don't even come close to scaring me.
It could be the Future Flash, but I have my doubts. It could either be Edward Clariss aka the Rival or Hunter Zolomon. The actor (not the voice actor) hasn't been cast yet so who knows

The new Candyman is a good film, but Tony Todd's presence and incredible voice are incredible. The first Candyman is the perfect horror film in my eyes. Great story, great acting, incredibly well fleshed out bad guy that has a reason to be the way he is. It's a twisted romance, I especially like his "be my victim".
"Helennnn." Yeah. Excuse me cause I just pissed myself. His voice is so terrifying but pretty sexy too. One of the best horror movies ever. It's scary as hell but also tragic and beautiful.
@@rachaudwalker9191 so the director didn't want Helen to scream or anything cause he gets annoyed with screaming in horror movies. So in a move to kinda make Candymans overall vibe feel more menacing and threatening to Helen was to make him seem like he had a trance on her enough to make her vulnerable to him from a mental standpoint. So to pull this off nicely, they took the actress who played Helen to a psychiatrist and had her put under a hypnotization spell
I watched the making of this film, I've heard that the producers wanted that the scenes between Candyman and Helen were powerful, so they hired a true hypnotist for the actress who plays Helen to be hypnotized for the scenes in which she are in contact with Candyman. On the part 2:06 when she is weeping, she is under hypnosis.
Yep...she says as much in the film commentary. She said everything got really dark when she was under hypnosis. But I wonder if it was even worth to hire the hypnotist I mean, it would have been nothing at all for her to let her face go slack and have someone apply a fake teardrop on her face just before the camera began rolling. The producers were pretty generous on this film.
It's more about the fact that a seemingly disembodied voice is calling her name in surround sound. LOL. Up until this point in the movie he's just been a legend, so this was our first intro to him along with Helen. I remember the audience chuckling nervously in the theater because it's so effective and creepy.
Philip Glass’ musical score and the way it’s performed using the choir and all is such a huge part of what makes this film so terrifying. I’d say it’s one of the most effective musical scores I’ve ever heard in a film.
All these years later and this is still one of the most chilling scenes I’ve ever seen. It’s simple but just right. He looks so scary just standing in the distance like that. And his voice just puts the icing on the cake lol
The director of the film said when Helen sees Candyman typically this is where the victim screams but he hated the idea calling it obnoxious and decided that rather then scream Helen would always be transfixed, hypnotized and powerless around him to make the weight of his power more terrifying.
I just love this scene. Has that dark element that's shrouded in mystery, you'd run away if you could but you just can't.. This is a proper horror movie.
From what I've seen and heard about the movie and his voice, people have said his voice is scary. I know it sounds weird, but I don't feel scared while hearing. I actually feel calm and the voice is mysterious, alluring, and it's pleasant to hear. He has a nice voice.

"Be my Victim."
That's like the coolest catchphrase for a movie monster ever.
It was actually bee my victim
He means "Be my bitch," but victim has a more elegant tone.
Candyman ain’t no monster who cared for the baby for over a month
@Computer User This is hilarious, I love how you bring up "DEH LIBTARDS ARE SUCH VICTIMS" in a conversation about a literal murder victim
It implies choice, which all of his victims had before they chose to summon him. But it is only an implication once he's been called.
