Good advice on the lens cap. You can focus a rangefinder without removing the lens cap. Check the histogram if the camera displays one. If you see only a simple vertical line on the left, the camera is telling you to remove the cap.
The Canon P truely gives the Leica M-series a run for their money in build quality and beauty imo and the IVSB/IVSB2's are straight upgrades to the Leica Barnack designs.
great video Pat, liked and subbed cheers. Personally i'm going through a close to end of life crisis, buying cameras on a weekly basis I use some for my channel content and others because i'm feckin totally possessed. For ages I've fancied the canon P and the Canon 7, i've bid on plenty but always lost out, I have however just scored a Canon L3 body only cheap and in good nick, so I've added a canon 50 1.8 stupidly cheap and a Leitz Elmar 5cm 3.5this was also cheap as it had an M mount adapter stuck onto it. I couldn't resist so bought it and managed to remove the adapter with a bit of brutality. Can't wait to try this gear out, such an awesome shutter sound, love it. I'll upload the experience.
Wow what a collection! I do the same. I buy some for video ideas, and some because I just like them. I don’t know if I’m a collector or not but I know I enjoy all the intricacies of each model.
You lucked out. Compared to the P, the L3 has a better viewfinder and rangefinder system. It has a repairable shutter, unlike the P. The old Leitz Elmar has value as a collectible, but is over the hill optically. Sell it and buy a nice Canon 35mm 2.8 and a bag full of film.
Hmm now I’ve only held a Leica like once, so I’m not a good judge of this… but I didn’t think the focusing was too rough on mine? And for the cost difference between the two I’d still say it’s worth the try for more photographers out there than the leicas… though an M6 is one of my dreams lol
I also have a Canon P and totally agree that the rangefinder patch is much harder to see compared to the patch on my Leica M2. It’s just crystal clear on the Leica. I still really enjoy the P but I grab the M2 90% of the time because of the far superior finder.
With film photography, you can’t change the ISO. The film speed IS your ISO. So if you get a box of portra 400… 400 is your ISO. Then you just set that into the camera.
This is a great video with useful information specially for beginners. But if I may, I would advise you to change the title of the video. when I see it in my recommendations, my reaction is "how do you know what I need or don't need?"
@@patcormick I understand, and i know you didn't ask for my advice, but i would respectfully suggest you to make your videos appealing for people, not for the algorithm
love my QL25 picked it up for $60 CAD used... near mint! love the Quick Load system!
Now that’s a solid find for 60 bucks!

That’s a good point for digis but there’s no help on the film side lol
Nice content, Pat! Great insights. 👏
Big thank you for the stoke! 🙏🏼
I have a Canon P and I love it. I just need a 50mm lens.
the 50 1.8 is a solid option - im always on the look out for a 28mil myself
Thanks for the video, I'm definitely getting a Canon P 🙌
What lens did you use for this video?
That’s the canon 50 1.8 ✌🏼
@@patcormick thank you! Love the quality of your photos
@@doncrisan big thank you 🙏🏼
I own a zorki 1 and a canon 2f ep rangefinders

@@patcormick spot on mate so many awesome cameras it’s fun to try as many as possible live once shoot loads 📷

@randallstewart1224 awesome advice re the elmar cheers
I just got one but the focusing overlap is impossible to see unlike the crisp boxes you overlap with a Leica.

@@dronefox2619 I mean if you got it, flaunt it 😉
@@dronefox2619 Yeah, thanks. I got rid of the P because of this. Great camera but when a guy's gotta focus, a guy's gotta focus :-)

how do you change the iso
Try me again? You mean push/pull
The asa iso dial is in the back of the camera on the door . Similar to a leica

I can't watch your videos after seeing how poorly you attached that strap.
