I ditched the color at 51 and I’m 68 now. A few years ago I booked an appointment at a new salon for a cut and as I was sitting in the wash area a colorist came over to me and said she hopes I’m not here for a color … I said no just a cut and she responded if I was there for color she would refuse to let anyone color me because my gray was stunning. Turned out she was the manager of the color department. I truly love my gray - it’s so real and you’re so right, the gray color and patterns change with age…God’s the colorist!

I stopped coloring my hair at 50. I love my grey hair and have never looked backed. I needed color every 3 weeks, my scalp would break out with bumps that itched and bled and I finally said- Enough is enough. I feel beautiful with my grey hair and it feels more like "me". I discovered your RUclips channel in 2019 and you gave me the courage to stop coloring. So, thank you!

I just got my below the shoulder hair cut in a short bob. I just turned 62. I only dyed mine every 3 mos. I have white hair on left by ear but no where else. 1 mos post dyeing not noticeable. But now I will just let nature take its course. My 19 yr old daughter has natural hair on her left side and pink hair on her right side. She got a pixie and is done with dyeing it!

After watching my mother age gracefully, I knew I did not want to become a slave to my hair. Thankfully, my husband was very supportive . I used to say that every gray hair had a name, but I ran out of names. My hairdressers have told me to embrace it , so that's what I've done . I'm 74 now and wish my hair was the beautiful, snowy white of my mother.

I found you when I was considering letting my hair go natural in 2020. I'm a curly girl who went for the big chop and rocked a pixie cut in June 2020 and has loved my gray, white, silver, and black hair ever since! Thank you for inspiring me and others. I'm 55 and am so glad to be rid of the worry and wasted hours of hiding my true self.

I did the big chop, too, when I went grey! I'm very glad I did it that way (but it isn't for everyone). I love my grey hair now and will never go back to coloring it. And at 68, I have enough wrinkles that coloring my hair isn't going to fool anyone into thinking I'm "young" any more.

I stopped coloring 10 years ago. I suffered a lot of negativity from people who didn’t matter. The people who mattered cheered me on and said do what you want. My daughter is graying now and she’s not interested in coloring because she likes my gray! Yay for gray pride!

I am a 60 year old retired hairdresser. I let my color go 10 years ago and I have not regretted it one bit. I also let my hair curl instead of flat ironing it every day. When I did it, many of my clients did as well. I LOVE your gray, curly hair!!

I stopped dying my hair 3 years ago. I’m 53 and have been very hard on myself, feeling old and haggard etc. during the process. But NOT anymore! The negative reaction I had from my 75 year old mother and 80 year old aunt hurt me a little over the past few years, although I tried to ignore the negatives. I now realise that’s their old fashioned mind set… grey equals old to them. Lately I’ve had strangers comment positively on my hair. Interestingly, they have been younger…about 30 ish. One even said she hopes to look like me when she’s 50 because I’m aging gracefully. I couldn’t believe it! Obviously it doesn’t matter what others think, but it’s nice to feel that people’s views of grey hair are changing. the younger generation even sees it as cool! We are leading the way in breaking through the stereotypes, we should embrace our beautiful grey hair! I’m learning to love it! and yes I have watched many of your videos over the years once I became allergic to hair dye. so thank you! 😊😊😊you really helped me feel better along the way!

My hair started turning gray in my mid 20s. It never bothered me. I colored my hair one time in my 30s and it sickened me. I couldn’t wait for it to be gone. I now have a very short cut and at 70+ it is totally white. I love it and get so many compliments almost everywhere I go. Most of the ladies I know still color their hair and it is not becoming to most of them. Be proud of that beautiful head of gray hair. Love it.❤❤❤

I’ve never colored my hair. I started going gray in my 30’s… was fully gray in my late 40’s and now that I’m close to 70, people tell me I haven’t changed and still look like I did 20 years ago 😂. I also have curly hair and love when you talk about your curls and your gray hair and makeup. There’s no question that as we age, especially as women, we’re often invisible, but if more of us embraced our natural selves, I think the more visible we’ll be!

Firstly your gray hair is beautiful! I also have gray curly hair just a little longer than yours. My husband is the one who convinced me to go gray. I’m also multi coloured like you. I actually also get more compliments on my hair now than I ever did when I was covering up the gray with blonde colour. I’m told that I look younger with the gray! (I was naturally a brunette) My sister is a hair stylist so I didn’t have to spend all the money you spent. I just got sick and tired of getting my hair coloured so often not to mention the itch I also had from colouring. It’s very liberating!

I have just started my gray curly hair journey. You are definitely an inspiration for me and many others who have decided to ditch the coloring of our hair. My personal opinion is we all listen to what negative thoughts others have and throw at us and dwell on that rather than what we want! I’ve reached the age where “frankly my dear I don’t give a darn” what you think it’s my life go live yours not mine. Love you and all you do for the curly community.

I used to perm my hair and color it as well. Covid helped me in my decision to go gray and stop the perms. By the time I was able to get back to the hairdresser, I spread the decision out over two visits so as to not shock myself too much. LOL. By the end of the second appointment, all the dark ends and perm were gone. I would never go back. I love my various colors of grays and have earned every bit of it. And as you said, the amount of money and time it saves me is mind-blowing. It is extremely liberating. Consider me part of your "I Love My Gray Hair Club!" ❤

I just turned 56 and have an only son who is 23. I colored my hair when he was 3 with semi-permanent color (I have not used permanent color since he was newborn. When he asked me, "Mommy where you white hair?," I decided that was it. He has never seen me any other way. Yes, I had him at 33 and always felt old, but never again. I started seeing grays in my teens. I have been gray since 35. I live in Mississippi and now see tons of silver sisters. I will say that I get compliments on my hair almost every day, and the only negatives I have ever gotten are from women. Men love my hair. Women are very judgmental of other women, and they think it makes you look old. I have never had a man say that to my face. I will honestly say that I have never cared what anyone thought of me -- ever. My daddy said I always marched to the beat of my own drum. I was ahead of my time with the gray hair. I would never, ever color it (even I was not allergic to PPD). I love my hair. It really is my favorite thing about me. Your hair is beautiful!

My mom is 78 going on 79. Since her late 30s, she has dyed her own hair. She is now fully white and does a light blonde on it, so much so that she really only has to dye it 3 to 4 times a year, you barely notice the difference at the very root. But back then she dyed more often. We once calculated it. She saved a brand new SUV doing all this herself. No joke (what hair salons charge here in Belgium).

I had been coloring my hair since I was 16 years old, I stopped coloring at 60 years old, I’m now 69 and oh so happy. I have gotten so many compliments, from the young and old. Now most of my sisters and cousins have gone gray since I went gray and we are all so glad to be gray. You are right we are role models for our daughters and family. I let my gray hair grow in about 10 years ago. I'm 69 now. You are absolutely right about the different shades of gray that come in. Silver, white, black. My hair is also shoulder length and I love it. I am stopped all the time by other women who tell me they absolutely love my hair. There seems to be a stigma attached to women going gray, not from everyone, but by some. It's been so freeing, not to spend the time, or the moneny & let's not forget the CHEMICALS on my hair. I spent a fortune. I had highlights done back in the day, foils all over my head. I'm from Canada, and over 10 years ago it cost me over $200.00 every 8 - 10 weeks. In the end, it's a personal choice. Renee your hair is stunning, love it and I think it actually suits you more than before it turned gray!!!

I mostly agree. EXCEPT, for the time I worked. I needed to maintain a youthful appearance. I worked in a fast-paced, high stress job, working for a CEO of a Fortune 500. I was responsible for the junior women hired in to work for the executives that reported to the CEO that I supported. I very much noticed how women got treated in that environment when they'd go gray. As awful as it may sound, they were treated with less respect. I know, I know. It isn't/wasn't fair. That's how it was. Younger women, or younger appearing women were treated better. I wasn't going to let that happen to me. When I retired - only then, did I allow my gray to grow out. I got salt and pepper. So many women will say to me, "I wish I could do that." I don't know if they are working or not. But back in the day, gray haired women were treated as if they were not as smart, not as sharp, not as kept up - more like a mother figure. I watched and I listened. I thought it was very unfair. Maybe it's different in the corporate world today. But it sure wasn't during my experience. But you are so right - so much time and money was spent trying to stay youthful looking. Glad that's behind me!

Thank you for your videos. I'll be 58 next week and my last box dye was August 27th 2023. I took the leap after months of talking with my encouraging hair stylist and searching the internet for inspiration. I found your channel in the summer of 2023 (omg realized I hadn't subscribed and just did). I came across a video and thought, "Oh my gosh she is beautiful and her hair is gorgeous." I was dying it black and touching it up every 3 weeks. My scalp was itchy and sore. Enough. Not going to lie- the last month of grays, reddish brown and dark black had me buying a box of dye. I resisted and will see this through. I just wish I had started in my 40s. I do not care what others think of my hair. It's going to be beautiful silver highlights to salt and pepper hair. Thank you again (and I'm a fellow schnauzer lover)!

I stopped coloring my hair in 2022 for all of the same reasons as you, Renee. The time and money being spent to try to cover the inevitable is what did it for me. It took me 2 years to grow mine out also, yes, that was a bit painful but I am so glad I stuck with it. My hair is as straight as yours is curly. It's been another challenge in trying to learn to style the gray as it does have a bit more of a difference in texture, but I am confident I will figure it out!

Your hair is FANTASTIC! Honestly Rene, and I truly mean this as a compliment, I think the grey suits you better than when you had darker hair. You look great both ways but the grey is just so multi dimensional with the different shades. I don't think it ages you at all and your curls are just so cute. I'm turning 57 in a couple of weeks. So far I don't have much for grey, just a few strands here and there. I really hope my hair ends up like yours though! I was always on the fence as to whether I would colour it or not when the time comes but I think I might just let it do it's thing.

I think you look beautiful, and I love your gorgeous curls, I do think the grey gives you a more youthful appearance. You are fabulous and yes, I have been with you since the beginning : )

Your hair is gorgeous! I’m currently in the transition and haven’t dyed my hair in years! I don’t miss that at all and am often afraid of how I’m gonna look all gray, but you look so fresh and beautiful and give me hope! And I’m actually loving the silver streaks! And my husband likes it and still thinks I’m sexy!😂🩶

Renee, I started following you a few years ago for “gray/curly inspiration!”
I stopped coloring/straightening my hair in 2020, right before the world shut down. It gave me a focus/project during that awful time. I embraced my natural silvers/curls and I have not regretted it once.
I get stopped and complimented on my hair, by at least one person, every time I go out in public.
Thank you for all you contribute to this community! ❤

People always say that same thing to me "If my hair would look like yours, I'd grow it out." I remember worrying about how mine would look. But I love how mine ended up coming in and I get complimented on it daily. I so relate to the rest of this video as well. I kept saying, "exactly!".

I love your hair. I stopped coloring my hair during covid and it was very dark. Just like yours. Now all the color has grown out and underneath all that color was white hair. I get so many compliments on my hair. Some days I miss my dark hair but I have never regretted going gray!

I started November 2018. I had very little support but I did have my family that did and that is how I found you and been with you since then. I think you look beautiful with your gray. I am happy and I am healthier for it. I did it because I got sick with autoimmune and I decided that it can’t be good putting chemicals right on my scalp. Thank you for your channel and I watch everything and I’m your friend. You truly helped me. ❤️💕😘

I only colored my hair for about five years, and stopped in 2020. No plans to go back! For anyone "on the edge" trying to decide if they should stop - I say go for it! More than likely, you'll be surprised at how much you do like it. But, if you find that you're not ready after all, you can always start coloring again. 👍

I don't worry about my color/roots. I color it myself to match my natural Auburn color. I Don't want grey hair. It's SO easy & cheep to do it myself once a month, about $8. Takes an extra 30 min after my shower.A No ammonia slow wash out type. I love the fact that I can color it & not have Grey hair! Everyone should do what works for them & makes them happy. I'm a young 63! You look great in your grey!!!!

Hello Renee, during COVID lock down I discovered your channel. At that time I was considering going gray. I had been coloring my hair since I was 18 and when I discovered your channel I was in my 60s. Not only did I fight my hair color but I also felt cursed with naturally curly hair. You gave me the encouragement to go naturally gray and to embrace my natural hair. I shall always remain grateful to you. Today my hair is complemented wherever I go! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Also to add to your list of what Great things happen when you stop coloring your hair......I no longer damage towels, clothing, and bathroom cabinets with the black dyes!

I started letting my grey come in almost 2 years ago. I have long hair so it’s ombré right now and I get compliments from random strangers when I go out!! I just cut and inch off the bottom every two months. The grey is about at my shoulders so soon I may cut it to a Bob style but now it’s looking pretty good! Streaks and variations are pretty. I am 67 and my 50yr old daughter stopped coloring her hair too!

I have thought of going gray but am really worried it won’t go well with my skin tone. I often look at women who are gray and feel that most look really good with it but I don’t think it will look good on me. I have gone weeks between colors, usually because I was too lazy to color it (I was using home coloring kits), so the gray has had plenty of time to show itself and the pattern it will ultimately follow on my head. I had about 1 1/2 inches of gray before and it looked terrible and I looked old! My hair dresser and I are now strategizing to help me get to gray in a subtle more gradual way. We started by lightening my overall hair color (I’m naturally dark brown/ black) and added highlights so I could get used to it. Ultimately we’ll go lighter and lighter so as the grays come out they won’t be so pronounced. I’m happy with this strategy and, while expensive at first, for me will be worth it in the end if it can get me to gray in a way that I’m comfortable with. I want it to be gradual for me and everyone that knows me. My hair is long. I actually now am used to the lighter hair and highlights and like it. I won’t be so uncomfortable to go lighter and ultimately let the grays come out. At least I hope not….great video! Thank you!

Well, how I started watching you was when I decided to go grey. I learned I don’t really look older. My hair is silver and I stopped losing my hair in clumps! I keep a bottle of color under my sink! I can’t go back . I had colored my hair every 3 weeks. It looked good for two days and then it would start to fade. So much less work. It took 18 months like you said. Glad to see you are feeling better!

It is true...having grey hair does not make you look older. It makes you look real. It compliments and highlights your natural features. When I was coloring my hair, I always felt dark (if that makes sense). My grey hair lightened my mood and personality. I'm sure you are feeling the same! 💗
