  • Hello everyone, in today’s video I’m going to show my step/process of finding a good evidence before condemning a very expensive control module.
    What is a BCM?
    In automotive electronics, body control module or 'body computer' is a generic term for an electronic control unit responsible for monitoring and controlling various electronic accessories in a vehicle's body. Typically in a car the BCM controls the power windows, power mirrors, air conditioning, immobilizer system, central locking, etc. The BCM communicates with other on-board computers via the car's vehicle bus, and its main application is controlling load drivers - actuating relays that in turn perform actions in the vehicle such as locking the doors, flashing the turn signals (in older cars), or dimming the interior lighting.
    What is a Shift Lock Solenoid?
    The shift interlock solenoid in automatic transmission vehicles stops the park gear from moving to prevent the driver from shifting out of park unless the brake pedal is pressed. It also stops the driver from shifting out of park if the ignition isn't turned in the on position

    I have a similar problem with a Kia Stinger. Gear shifter moves without having to press on that button but transmission does not move out of Park. Gears move as though it's connected as it should, it isn't loose. Car was in an accident. What could be the issue?

    • @WrenchingRyan
      @WrenchingRyan  3 месяца назад

      Is a front end accident? If yes it could be your inhibitor switch is broken or the cable itself.

    sir what kind of scan tool do you use?

      I used OEM scanner from KIA called GDS. Thanks for watching.

    I have the same issue with my wife’s Kia Sorento 2016. I purchased a used bcm online and fixed the shift issue… now the key fobs won’t work with the new to me bcm. How can I fix the key fobs?

    • @WrenchingRyan
      @WrenchingRyan  5 месяцев назад

      You have to get your fob to re program.

    • @marek30144
      @marek30144 5 месяцев назад +1

      Would it be the standard reprogram procedure. Switching the keys on and off till the lock cycles then pushing the lock/unlock button on the fob?

    • @WrenchingRyan
      @WrenchingRyan  5 месяцев назад

      @@marek30144 you need a scanner to perform programming, if you have both fob both of them need to be done, I’m not sure if aftermarket scanner will do the job. Thanks for watching.

    Have you got the replacement bcm video. My 2016 sorento has exactly this issue. Does the repair need to be done by Kia?

    • @WrenchingRyan
      @WrenchingRyan  6 месяцев назад +1

      Unfortunately the BCM cost is way too much for the customer and they decided to declined the service.

      What does that even mean? If they refuse to provide the service, how do u get it fixed? I'm having the same problem

      @@karenkolczniski4251 I have the same problem in a 2016 Sorento. The screwdriver inserted into the shift lock release (located to the left of the shifter on the console) might be a "permanent" fix for me as I refuse to pay the cost to replace the BCM. I replaced the brake switch (easier and cheaper) but it didn't work for me.

    What computer are you using to check the BCM?

    I have the same problem with my Kia sorrento 2018 how much this will cost ???

    • @WrenchingRyan
      @WrenchingRyan  5 месяцев назад +1

      Price may vary depending on location, we quote the customer for 1900 dollars which is includes BCM, labor, diagnostic and fob programming. But the customer declined the repair, the module is the most pricey one. Thanks for watching.

    • @privatename3621
      @privatename3621 Месяц назад

      @@WrenchingRyan I can understand why they would have declined. I would have too, since the BCM is only about $500 online and dealerships get their parts much cheaper than the public can. The key fob programming is also a huge dealership profit center, for something that is relatively trivial (kits are available online). The real issue is that this should be recognized as a true defect by KIA and should be fixed for free. Or a class action lawsuit should be brought.
      This is the trouble with cars today. Critical components are made out of plastic and easily break. Same with KIA door handles and door lock mechanisms that break because of cheap plastic part inside. And when the car manufacturer sees its actually a design flaw, they hide that info from the public and every dealership acts like its some "unique" problem the customer is having when in fact tens of thousands of owners are all experiencing the same costly design flaw.

    My stick shift can move, it’s just not turning over like yours.

      Probably the shift assembly is causing the issue.

    Why isn’t this recalled? Is this not a safety issue?

    • @WrenchingRyan
      @WrenchingRyan  2 месяца назад

      This issue should be a safety recalled, since the BCM is malfunction you can able to start the engine when in reverse or drive but kia never release one.

      @WrenchingRyan I'm trying to figure out how to remove my center console to fix the shifter cable right now .
      At least it happened on the way home and I could shift into park by hand on transmission. I hate plastic fasteners .
