- A friend and I hike along about 4.5 miles of the disused Port of
Tillamook Bay Railroad west of Cochran, Oregon, through two tunnels and
over two trestles, including the famed Big Baldwin Trestle and the Wolf
Creek Trestle. This railroad was shut down in December 2007 following a
major storm caused numerous washouts, and in 2016 the Port of Tillamook
Bay filed to abandon the line after nine years of non-use. The cost to
repair the line exceeds $60 million, but the lack of potential freight
traffic in and out of Tillamook County renders the repair unjustifiable.
