    This is so surreal. One of the last times these canyon walls and forests will hear the distinctive sounds of SD9s working hard pulling heavy trains over the Coast Range.
    No one knew it at the time but, just a few weeks later, everything would change.
    The peaceful Salmonberry River would become a raging torrent sending water and debris into trestles like battering rams and washing out large sections of track and roadbed.
    This is truly an historic piece of footage.

    The POTB has officially mothballed the line. They filed for a discontinuance of service last week.
    I was pretty optimistic about getting it rebuilt before this but now it looks like nothing will ever be done about it. Farewell POTB, you shall be missed. :-(

    The only POSSIBLE way this railroad would, or could be rebuilt,,, is if it was sold to someone else. The POTB has no interest in doing it. And no one wants to see the railroad rebuilt more than me. It ain't gonna be cheap,,, but it's certainly worth doing. If I win a BIG lottery, I'll do it myself.

    Sorry to read where this line was put out of service by a severe storm. I remember reading an article about the RR many years ago, in Trains magazine, I believe. Hope someone can rescue it.

    Logging companies are spending more money in fuel and maintenance for the Big Rigs luggin up and down those mountain roads than how much the cost of damage of the RR is! SAVE THIS LINE www.oregoncoastscenic.org/tillamook-line-history/strange-visitor-to-timber.html

    According to their website, FEMA gave them money to rebuild the railroad after the flood, but the powers that be diverted the money to improve the airport and the industrial park.

    If you are going to post videos AND allow comments, you need to tend to it. There are coarse comments to delete, equipment used to explain, etc. Why was this SO slow on what I thought looked like good track? Was this a special deal where you were allowed to ride in the cab? Come on! Tell us about it.

    • @csxt6573
      @csxt6573  7 лет назад +4

      I'm married, work for the railroad, and have a 7 year old. I don't always have time to "tend" to RUclips. Matter of fact, if YT weren't in cahoots with Google these days, I'd probably have not ever seen this.
      Having said that, it's slow because....well it's cheap to go slow. 136lb CWR on many parts, thanks to the SP.
      Remember how I said I work for the railroad? When you have a friend on the inside, and get to know the guys casually while interchanging, neat things happen. So yes, I was allowed. I had to get up at 3 in the morning, drive into the middle of nowhere in the Coast Range, and wait for them to show up!
