- Robert Young and Kim Nimsgern entered The Den seeking £60,000 in return for a 20% stake in 'Click and Curl' - "a blowout brush set used to achieve volume and natural curls!" Initial thoughts were promising but the Dragons soon realised the product isn't selling...
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

It's straight and has a volumized curl
Janusha thought she had them in beforehand to actually demonstrate what they do
Hayley has short hair and barrels of those size are only ever going to give that sort of hair more body and slight large wave rather than curl. Even with longer hair, the result with those barrels would be a very gentle wave.

Many people seem to feel this way, but I tend to prefer (as far as one can tell on the basis of no acquaintance at all with either person) the equally expert, professional, realistic, and down-to-earth, yet far less confrontational and usually more helpful attitude of Deborah Meaden, who is typically much more likely to give useful and constructive advice to potential entrepreneurs - even when she chooses not to invest in them. To be honest, it has always seemed to me as if Peter Jones's greatest fan is... Peter Jones! :D

The editors were really generous to this company by not showing the demonstrated hair closely. Even the few moments they showed it from a distance looked awful.
OMG IT WAS AWFUL. Those curls did NOT hold LOL
It looked like they wrapped her straight hair up in curlers and then took the curlers out to leave straight hair.
There were curls?
As of 2020, Jenny has only invested five times (while I've seen her make other offers, they were rejected or undercut by other Dragons). She's been a banker, but what else does she really bring to the show? Peter brings tech, Touker and Tej bring connections, Theo brings retail knowledge, Duncan is a health-club-and-hotel magnate, and Deborah- Deborah never ceases to amaze me with her questions and knowledge in practically every type of business market. She doesn't mess around, yet she has invested dozens of times.
She's invested more than other 2 season dragons 🤷♂️
She invested 6 times total
Being a banker maybe she witnessed a lot of businesses that took loans and then either failed or succeeded. Maybe that's why she picks up on the red flags etc.
@@sayamqazi Exactly,
Right. A good mix.
How was Jenny on Dragons Den for so long.

Jenny has over 2 seasons made about 5-6 offers, which actually isn't that bad. Some other investors do similar amounts per season. Tej for example makes around the same amount of offers he just doesn't come across as much as being always out
Someone in another comment said she acts like a banker, not an investor, and it's so true.
She was only there for 2 seasons.

I'm glad Jenny mentioned about the curlers in the presentation at the beginning, i thought the same as her in a way, when she took the curlers out i was expecting more curl, looked more like she just got out of bed
I think she had the wrong idea about the type of curls that would result from a product like this- this product makes ‘blowout’ curls, which are much softer and subtle than the type you’d get from a curling iron :)
Blowouts are for the volume; you only get a gentle curl. It's not for curling hair.

the guy says he doesn't have enough for marketing yet he doesn't want to go on channels like QVC you can't really pick and choose mate
They are a total contradiction-say they struggle to get publicity & then he is saying he doesn't want it on QVC-so either he is lying & it didn't sell well on there, or he thinks it is too downmarket for him.
QVC were probably taking a big cut
That was really terrible. It was already on QVC and didn't sell. People buy anything on QVC. If it didn't sell the first time it's not getting a second chance either. It would be much better if it had never been on.
@@roddi733 I see loads of retired or semi-retired ladies who dress up to the nines and meet with others and go to local boutique cafés, restaurants, theatres, world cruises, et al... feralferret ; that’s kinda the opposite of a large target market. It’s quite niche especially when you take in the fact that the demographic narrows down after considering the ladies who have arthritis and can’t even use the product or those who don’t have enough/strong enough hair and use wigs, etc.

For once I actually agree with Jenny for backing off from this one. Can't argue with her reasoning here at all :/
Those net profit numbers are terrible given how long they have had. This is a good example of product development that doesn't have a real customer value proposition.

I hate when people say that a product sells itself (@0:20) when it definitely doesn’t. If it did, you wouldn’t need a Dragon. The few things that sell themselves are food, gas and cocaine.
nirodha 😂 😂🤣
Some products do sell themselves and still require a dragon. There was a guy on who made bespoke out door activity sets for schools on here. And despite having no advertising budget whatsoever he was doing rather well and everything he had achieved was via word of mouth. The only sales he made were through schools coming to him and making requests. He was also an incredible salesman. In his words "once I walk through the school door the sale is made". He came on dragons den because he needed funds to higher more carpenters so that instead of him being in his shed making the product he could go out and actually sell it and have time to do all the Admin stuff. He was at a plateau due to lack of man power and not having the funds to change that. So he went on dragons den in order to get the funds to make that step and break through to the next stage. He was stuck because he was the workforce of a labour intensive company and therefore he couldn't expand any further without a little help. But the product still sold itself
I said the same thing when it started
Not even food, many food companies go out of business, so it's just gas and cocaine
Very true 😂

"If you ask 100 people in America if they've heard of the product, you'll maybe find 2, and those two bought it."
Yet the net is so low? 2% of the US population is 6.5 million. If 2 out of 100 people in the US are buying your product, you should be a straight up millionaire.
10% is considered an "average" profit margin, meaning she should be making a profit of about $0.76 per brush sold, and that's only her cheapest product - At 2% of the US population, that should be a profit of at least $4.9 million, on the lowest estimate alone. Considering she's not making that, she's either lying about how many people know about her product, how many people buy her product, or how profitable her product is.
That was interesting... I like the kind of stuff you talk about but I'm not great at it

I don't think she flew over that morning. The show is filmed over a couple of weeks with long days, you don't get a heads-up when you are due to appear which adds to the entertainment when people are unprepared. Being in Europe to help a distributor seek £60k investment tells you everything you needed to know about her product, the brand (which needs a rebranding) and the market. He was pretty much her business partner and she was seeking investment and guidance for her own American business.
