RE: PAUSING, EXPRESSIONS & AIR-INSTRUMENTS:
Please be mindful that we will pause (we prefer to react in the moment & to avoid copyright strike), we will react with enthusiasm, smiles, tears, conversation, exchanged looks and air-instruments. We are expressive by nature and are truly very quirky in every sense of the word. This is who we are and this is what we’ve got to offer. We understand it may not be for everyone, but here's to hoping you all enjoy and we absolutely love positive comments and feedback.

The pianist , on Street Life is Joe Sample, and he is an exceptional musician. In fact, Donald and Walter used him on several Steely Dan cuts.
There's a great video of Samples performing Rio de Janeiro blues with Randy Crawford on RUclips.
Allen Toussaint was musical royalty in New Orleans, both as a performer and producer. I was fortunate to see him perform live once down there, and he was spectacular.
Randy Crawford, most underrated singer.
The Crusaders were an American jazz group that was successful from the 1960s to the 1990s. The group was known as the Jazz Crusaders from their formation in 1960 until shortening their name in 1971. They are legendary. And this Jazz band along with the Yellowjackets is one of my all-time favorite Jazz bands. 😍 Please Please 🙏 go down the Rabbit Hole on this band and you will not be disappointed.
Mercy .
What a Soul Toucher .
Love love love this..day made
The feelings that you described during Mr Magic reach only half way towards the feeling's that I have for this track every time I hear it, its an absolute Masterpiece! ❤
Street Life was used in the soundtrack for a great Burt Reynolds movie, Sharky's Machine, from 1981. Randy Crawford is fantastic. You should react to some of her other work too. Thanks for the reaction Nick!
Grover Washington Jr - Live at the Bijou is a great double album. Crusaders between 73 and 78 were so good. Joe Sample is also one of the great session guys.
Alan Toussaint is a New Orleans legend. Not just as a performer. He's a pretty neat producer too. Grover Washington is one of the true saxophone greats, and the Crusaders (with or without Randy Crawford) are one of my all-time favourite groups (Along with Steely Dan, of course.) What a marathon!
Trivia time. That sax on The Crusaders song is by co-founder Wilton Felder who also plays bass. He is the bassist on Pretzel Logic. There’s your Dan connection for today.
You’ve heard the Crusaders sax and keyboard players, Wilton Felder and Joe Sample on Steely Dan including Aja and Gaucho albums. Also, Larry Carlton was in the Crusaders for a number of years.
Wilton Felder also played the bass on the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back"
Yes, that’s a classic bass line!
Thanks for pointing this out!
@@MacilmoyleJoe Sample was on that track as well.
Nice! Thanks ❤️🔥😽
Being born and raised in and now living in the suburbs around New Orleans, Alan Toussaint is and always be a local legend to us. Now to shift gears, Grover Washington was my uncle's favorite jazz musician and "Mister Magic" was his absolute favorite song by him. Whenever we spent times together as family, I would always put it on for us to enjoy. I miss you Unc. Thanks for bringing up fond memories.
Grover Washington is legendary Jazz Saxophonist!!! This entire album is one of his best Masterpieces. 👌 Great reactions. Lex will LOVE HIM!!!!
Little Feat covered the Allen Toussaint song "On Your Way Down" on their 1973 Dixie Chicken album. If you liked Grover Washington, C.T.I. records had a stable of artists who would play on each others' albums in this commercially successful jazz genre. Besides Washington there was Bob James, Eric Gale, George Benson, Hubert Laws, Deodato, Ron Carter, Freddy Hubbard, and more. My old Benson albums are all on that label.
David that was a bit special mate !!!!! Thanks very much David. Nick once again my friend your love and passion and appreciation for music shone through 😊Thank you both very much 🎉
I am sooooo IMPRESSED WITH THE number of guitars you play!!!! You really know your music 🎶....Love that!!!
Grover's Black Frost from Mister Magic album is truly Mind-blowing 🔥
Street Life was used in one of my favorite movies, Tarantino's "Jackie Brown", along with a lot of great R&B music.
as a small club DJ, i would spin all da +ime
"Mr. Magic"; from Grover; ppl would chair dance, floor dance, dance all over! was amazing
Six to Four from George Benson Breezin' album 1976 another jazz banger 🔥
This was a really nice listen to get into evening mode. I know all the names but have never heard the first two tracks before so that was cool. 🎷🎷🎷
Mister Magic is hands down my favorite Grover Washington song. He had many other great albums. Street life while their most commercially successful song is not my favorite Crusaders track. Spiral is a great track where all the band members do solos. Larry Carlton's solo is one of his best imo. Put it where you want it is also a great track. Those southern Knights and Free as the wind are two great albums to start with.🎶🎷🎸
And let's not forget the Chain Reaction album.
Funky. This is something to dance to!
Grover Washington’s Winelight LP from 1980 is filled with goodness. Bill Withers provides vocals on at least one track- Just The Two Of Us.
The band members are playing a old Gospel song called, "God Don't Move The Mountain, But Give Me Strength To Climb It. " great reaction. 👍
So glad that someone has finally found The Crusaders! (though I would not pick this particular tune...oh, forgot how good it is) You might put The Pointer Sisters and Taj Mahal on your list of funky jazz/blues. You can get both of them on "Cake Walk Into Town"! (you will LOVE this tune)
In 1979 they played in clubs and small disco‘s this album version over 10 minutes 😉we where lucky 🍀 then the best 🎶 🎶
Wow, you started off with one of my daughter's favorite songs (and mine, too). I'm not sure she's heard this version, though
Street life the piano player is Joe Sample, Sax is welton Felder and drummer is Stix houper.
The Crusaders con mi amor ..la gran Randy Crawford ...un clasico .......¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Yes, I'm hearing a lot of Jamiroquai in that last one as well. I'm guessing the date on the first one is a reissue.
pls next Joe Sample - Mistery child (from "Did You Feel That?") 🙏🙏🙏
Street Life same Drummer as Aja. Steve Gadd. He was all over the place back then.
Hi Nick. Rob squad did a reaction to Grover’s song. Besides your channel it’s the only one I’ve seen react to it.
From The Crusaders you can hear how Steely Dan switched to a more jazzier sound, also using Larry Carlton and Joe Sample from the band didn't hurt.
Joe Sample on the piano on Street Life…
Wilton Felder The Crusaders sax player is also the bass player on The Jackson 5 song I Want You Back
Mr. Magic. When you said ok this is 9 minutes long. I was thinking - it's going to be one of the best 9 minutes of your entire life. ha ha ha. Now it's time for John Coltrane Wise One.
also no+e how amazing da "ou+ros" are; NO ONE makes music w/ such care now, righ+?
Joe Sample on the Keyboard... Lex will know his song "One Day I'll Fly Away" that Nicole Kidman sang in Moulin Rouge. However , Randy Crawford had a hit with it in the 80's!
Mas desorientado q pato en gallinero 💪🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷 vamos NICKKKKKK
Great reactions! You could react to a song written by Allan Toussaint, in the version of the magic voice of Aaron Neville: the title of the song is "Hercules".
wil+on felder on +enor sax for Crusaders; his +one is alw SO pha+ and fa+.....gorgeous.
The Crusaders is what Donald Fagan listens to!
Grover is one of the many main roots of the modern jazz movement.
Check out Free As The Wind
and Southern Comfort
Love Street Life featured in the movie Jackie Brown.
So, WHEN are you going to dip your toes into the late Chick Corea... I recommend No Mystery with the first recordings of Al Demeola...
Grover……..None better!!!!
Larry Carlton (session player with Steely Dan) was good with The Crusaders. I would have gone with earlier Allen Tousaint such as 'On your way down' from the 60s.
Thanks for this marathon! I would label this jazz rather than funk though.
Funky Jazz. or Funky Fusion.
Need to work with Phil Collins on that shaker routine though. LOL (he is of course the master) I have several of Grover's albums.
more Joe Sample plzzzzzzzzz 😍😍😍
Right now you're Playing my Songs...but you'd need to include Naji, Paul Taylor, G. Benson, S. Turrentine, Wes Montgomery, Paul Hardcastle...The Modern Jazz Quartet...Stan Getz and Eddy Salter... W. Tisdale, Herbie Hancock...lol ...at least a dozen more whose names slip my memory...but not ..the music...and as Bass and Smooth Jazz Lover...you should check out the German Jazz group fusion group Psi... Their 1st Album late 90's early 2000's. What you can't hang with Bob Marley!? etc...
F1rst!!!🎉🎉🎉
Larry Carlton was with Crusaders for many LP's, not on this cut though. ..fyi
