Duduk by Ali Farbodnia, vocals & arrangement by Farya Faraji, with additional vocals by Kelareh Kabiri.
This is an Armenian folk song that I decided to arrange in a mostly Western Armenian style to contrast it with my previous Armenian arrangement of a Sayat Nova song, whose music was made in the Caucasus, and therefore features more Eastern Armenian-like musical sounds such as the tar and kemenche. For this one, I wanted a more popular and less courtly sound, hence the usage of only a duduk, played expertly by Ali Farbodnia, and an oud, with dhol drums and a simple set of frame drums.
    Lyrics in Armenian:
    English translation:
    The sun has risen,
    The moon has risen
The light has shone, the darkness has dissipated
    Habrban, Habrban,
Habrban, Habrban, jan e jan, jan ghurban*
    Girl, you are ice,
Your love ignites and ignites me,
    Habrban, Habrbnan,
Habrban, Habrban, jan e jan, jan ghurban
The girl, whose name is Shushan,
Yar jan*, whose name is Shushan,
Come with me to the holy temple,
This golden ring is a holy gift to you
Habrban, Habrban, jan e jan, jan ghurban
*The phrase "jan e jan, jan ghurban" is difficult to translate literally. These are idiomatic expressions that Armenians, Iranians and Turks, and probably others also use. Jan comes from the Persian word for life, and "jan e jan" translates roughly to "life of my life", while ghurban is an Arabic term, itself ultimately derived from Aramaic or Syriac, which mean a sacrifice, usually to God, therefore jan ghurban has mostly an idiomatic meaning of "may my life be sacrificed for you," although on a more literal level, these are really only interjections without a deep meaning.

My Armenian grandmother would often put "john" after people's names as an endearment, or would call a cute child or any loved one "baleeg-john" (spelled phonetically here.) I never knew the exact translation, but I understood it to be something like "sweetie" or "honey" or "darling."
Coincidentally, my grandmother's mother was named Shushan, like the girl in this song. (She went by "Shushanik" as a girl in Armenia, but the "-ik" at the end is just a diminutive, like how we might call a girl "Susie" instead of "Sue." She went by the name "Lily" after emigrating to the U.S.)

This is just my opinion and sincerely from my heart. Whether you agree or not, it doesn't matter, because everyone has their own opinion. But as long as there is love between fellow human beings and believe that we are all great-grandchildren of the prophet Adam, we all surely must agree.Every human being will make mistakes whether we know it or not. But whether we will learn from that mistake or not, we ourselves have to make our own decisions. When I found out my ancestors from here, which is "Armenian", I admitted that I didn't know, so I decided to study the history of "Armenia".I agree that it is very complicated, what I found is a lot of misunderstanding of Armenian and Turkiye relations. I am with the intention of a sincere heart, stop the fight between Armenia and Turkiye, Azerbaijan.I realize what I'm saying now is quite impossible or really impossible, this makes me sad again.Because if this continues, it is not impossible that it will be like in Palestine, Gaza and so on. Sorry if everything I say is unpleasant.

This exact melody exists also in pontian greek music (makes sense to be honest)

    Wonderful music as usual.
I wonder if the fact that you released Georgian music (Tornike the Georgian) and shortly after this Armenian music is a coincidence or not? This coincides quite well with the release of the new Age of Empire II DLC which adds these two new civilizations.
Would you be an Age of Empire II player?
If not, I find the coincidence amusing.
In any case, thank you for your work, it’s always a pleasure to listen to your music.

Excelente canción señor Farya! A question. Are there musical instruments in common between Armenian and Mazandaran music?

    • @faryafaraji
      @faryafaraji  Год назад +13

Great question. Very few if any apart from the frame drums we use. Mazandarani music functions mostly on the triad of dotar, ney and daf, whereas Armenian folk will be more duduk, oud and dhol oriented.
That said more courtly Armenian music shares some of the same instruments as Persian classical music: the tar and kemenche in east Armenia, and the oud and kanun in West Armenia
