- Steve admits that money problems played a part in the break up of his first marriage. But that hasn’t stopped him from racking up almost $70,000 in debt with his fiancé Bobbi Jo. Their home is beautifully furnished but they have no idea of how much their wedding will cost, let alone how they’re going to pay for it. Gail’s number one goal is to get them through their wedding without any new debt, while helping them pay off the debt they already have. .

The first couple I’ve seen to give Gail a gift, so nice!!
I wish they would do this sort of show with new couples instead of another 90 day fiancee. This was so cute and a great starting point for their relationship
Such a great point. This is both entertaining and educational, vs whatever we want to call the 90 day franchise...
There is a RUclips podcast called Financial Audit, the people today are scary different... It's like someone crossed this show, Jerry springer and kitchen nightmares. I'm amazed the host Caleb hasn't had a brain aneurysms.
He is so much prettier than her
If people wanted these type of shows nowadays, they would make them. Shows are made off of what people want to see. Unfortunately, most people would rather watch 90 Day Finance. I watch it. Love it. But I also am financially responsible and I’ve taught myself how money works. These things need to be taught at school and in the home from a young age. Also, we know have the power for unimaginable amounts of information at our fingertips and people don’t use it to learn basic financial literacy. The amount of crazy financial misinformation on the internet is also a problem. Of course, the always popular, “keeping up with the Joneses”, is always going to be a problem. Unfortunately, I only see it getting worse.
💯 💯💯 I couldn't agree more! I don't know of ANY current (2024) 'reality' show that is interesting and insightful. The problem is the over the top drama garbage sells.
“Money issues destroyed my first marriage.”
Proceeds to do the exact SAME behaviour in his next relationship
“Gotta check the jars”. OMG. They are adorable.
Best couple I've seen on this show so far! Receptive and kind. You could tell Gail loved them too
Absolutely agree!
Ok this is wholesome af, I hope they’re still together 😅
me too!
They got divorced, steve was banging another cop
You talk about this being “wholesome,” so why did you feel the need to add “af?”
I liked this couple from the very beginning. And so did Gail. It was so obvious that they wanted the help and were willing to do whatever it took. You can see the love for each other, and I think they'll do well in life. It's probably about 15 or 16 years later as I write this, and I'll bet if we could take a peek, they're still together, still happy, have a nice family AND still have their "stuff" together. This is the kind of episode that gives other people hope, if only they would listen. I wish Gail had been around to yank me out of my problems many years ago but unfortunately I just have to live vicariously. LOL. As an old lady now in retirement, I wish I had known some of this back then. Everybody pay attention and do what you can with what you've got. Blessings from Central Florida, USA.
I hear yea, hope you are doing well, its never too late though to save money for the future even in retirement.
@@asimskentzos9231 You are so right! Living on a set income is difficult, but it can be done. Adding to one's savings is WAY more difficult at this point, but I still try. Thanks for the well wishes.
I like what you wrote very much. I have a niece by the name of Lola. I hope your days are happy. God Bless.
Hi, Lola, hope you are still doing well!
@@tinad8561 I am, thank you. 🤗
Our household income is the same as theirs, with 4 kids. We owe on our house, one vehicle, and our fridge. We got married for under $2,000, including rings and my dress. I own one credit card that I pay off every time I use it. Credit is for necessities, not fun or food. It's how much you spend, not how much you make. I had $0 on my credit card when we got married. I owe $0 now.
Wow that is awesome. We need to give advice n share our stories. I would never want anyone else to be in debt
Haven’t had a credit card in over 10 years. Have zero mortgage. Did buy a car and financed it and despite the fact of not having a credit report, we got financing on a $21,000 vehicle for 2.4%. They just based it on our income and the fact that we had no debt, we were approved in no time 😀
Paying extra on the principle every month to get it paid off in less than 2 years. 👍🏻 We use our debit card when we need to reserve a hotel room online. Easy peasy. Yep. Don’t miss the credit cards. But good on you to carry a zero balance. Most people do not. I think I heard recently that the average family owes $8,000 just on credit cards alone 😬

Are you jealous that they have kept their spending under control unlike most people ?! I love hearing how others are responsible with their money and don’t blow it on stupid stuff !!!
My hubby & I have always planned our life together - on a budget! We both had credit card debts & loans - so by the time we got married all but two of hubby's loans were paid off (the remaining two were paid off within 1 1/2 yrs) Our wedding was mostly on us - so it was definitely on a budget. Friends and family helped out with stuff like videos, photos, bouquets, dresses,... It was beautiful for us to have a day to remember and we're still together after 35 yrs!
This is one of about 3 couples I truly enjoy watching and thought they wanted to make it work. I hope they’re still together. Cheers!
They are adorable! I love this couple! So happy they worked w/Gail to get financially healthy!!!
This show is a testimony for why finances should be taught in school.
Sure let’s just have the schools teach everything since parents don’t want to do their jobs. In fact, drop the kids off when their 5 and just pick them up when they are 18.
@@akc783 I think it’s safe to say that parents aren’t winning any awards for money management given that the bankruptcy courts have full dockets and the attorneys aren’t hurting for business. This show is a necessity now more than ever. I live in the US and there’s no shows like this one. Just a lot of reality nonsense.
@@MrsSusieL So basically you are saying that makes it the school’s job. Got it.
@@akc783 I guess I am. It’s not the perfect answer, I know that. What do you propose?
@@MrsSusieL I propose that people actually deal with the consequences of their actions. As a former teacher (15 years) I am so sick to death of people thinking it’s the schools’ job to do everything. Guess what- schools already DO teach budgeting. But obviously the kids are not learning it. Why? Because it is a LIFESTYLE that must be taught, not something that can be learned by sitting down in a classroom and reading a book. But I guess that’s just too hard for parents to actually do so you want to make it the schools’ responsibility. So tell me this - what do you propose the schools STOP teaching in order to make room for the increased amount of emphasis on budgeting that you propose?
We got married in Vegas, and it was perfect for us. Budget friendly, Elvis was not invited, small group of family was there, and we got exactly what we wanted plus a week of honeymoon without taking on any debt to do it.
No Elvis ?! Wrong !! 😄 Seriously though; I really hope you two are way too happy!

Bobbi Jo had a "deer caught in headlights" look when they first started talking to the wedding planner.
I thought the exact same thing then saw your comment. Looks blown away!
This couple warms my heart.
Love this show and I love Gail,
Such great woman 🙏
Such an adorable and kind couple! I wish them only the best!
I love this show.
Me too!
Watching these shows now really reveals how much inflation has changed budgets etc. $50-70 for a dinner out (in a major Canadian city) will not get you that far in a restaurant anymore.
That's a fast food type joint now in Canada. We won't even talk about what happened to our stupid housing market since then, sigh. Mind you, my income has more than doubled since these were filmed - but would still never even approach keeping up with the stupidly inflated real estate market.
Wow! The first couple I've truly seen take on board and action what is being said. They genuinely seemed like they would totally get that debt paid down in one year, and re-address how their spending habits.
That gift was so thoughtful!
Those pictures came out great!
o they are adorable! I just love them! Hope they made it
Cute couple. Enjoyable watching them cook for each other. Clever Thank you gift! Happy everaftering! 💒 💗
I just love Gail’s laugh!
What a nice couple! Great job Gail!
This couple were great!
Thanks, Amy!
Wonderful outcome ❤️💜
130k income at a time that finishing a basement cost 3k and a skylight cost $1,100... how do you go into debt
There should be more episodes like this before people actually get married
Awesome to see this couple 💑 be successful in completing Gail's challenge. They will also have a happy successful marriage 💑 gorgeous couple xx
As a former marriage commissioner I was always astounded at the time and money spent on the "big day" with little regard to the day after the party when the real work begins in making a successful marriage. These days when people spend years living together first, what a waste of money a big wedding is. Put the money on the mortgage or other debt. Go to Vegas kiddies.
cute couple. Sure they'll make it together.
I've never understood why couples who have lived together for years feel it's necessary to do the big "church/banquet" wedding.
My husband and I lived together for 4 years before we went you the Justice of the Peace and made it legal.
They did so well. A lovely couple.
My favorite couple and episode!!
The thing I noticed is that most of the families Gail is working with are making $100,000.00 to $200,000.00 a year. The US medium family income is somewhere between $56,000.00 and $64,000.00 a year, depending on in what year you are comparing.
I think because this is the magical bracket where people think that they are rich when they are not so then they overspend. I know people who are married and they're doctors and dentists, making over $300,000 a year, and they cry poverty because they are house poor and overspend on frivolous things.
@@cfaz6763
Yep. Totally agree. My sister and brother in law make close to $200,000 combined. They live in a “shack”. They spend all their money on 2 big vacations a year, they trade in their cars every 1-2 years carrying negative equity. They eat out a lot !!! And lots of credit cards. My husband and I make less than half of what they make. Our house is 3,000 sf, no mortgage, no credit cards… 1 small car loan which I make double the principle payments on. That will be paid off in a few months. No credit cards. We pay as we go. Cook a lot from scratch at home. Plus I grow a lot of our veggies in fruit saving me tons in grocery costs 😁
Veggies AND fruit 😆
This show is also 20 years old. But it’s based in and around Toronto in Canada and the cost of living was high even then with some of the most expensive real estate in the country. Now it’s completely ridiculous but even back then it was bad. So the income seems high but it wasn’t for that area. It’s like comparing it to New York City.
Idk I feel like the overspending thing happens at all levels. I've seen ppl making less than 40k a year spend their money on things thats definitely out of their pay grade twice over. 😐 but yea I also get it's the hidden aspect of it. Most of these couples look like they are successful but alot of them are sinking fast and try to cry I'm paycheck to paycheck. Over abundance and image makes people do dumb things all over the world
because lower income an a big dept, is more different to make a succes, and that is not oke in this program.
Love this show.. Gail is a miracle worker.
I wonder what process Gail follows.
Like some say pay off your smallest balance first. Some say pay off the highest interest rate balance first.
Look up the rule of 72. If you took out a 3000 loan at 18% and only pay the minimum...that loan could double in 4 years.
Gail believes: pay the highest interest rate first
A couple of cutie pies. Love it.
You can tell these videos are old because she's surprised there's more than 1 computer in the house 🤣
I have no computers in the house.Happy like that.

This is a brilliant couple, great sense of humour and fun with this work with gail they will do great
Wow! He made really elaborate food! They were really nice! I hope the future is debt free for them! I'm surprised Gail didn't tell them to sell some bikes!
The return is super low. Better to let them use them as entertainment and not buy any more stuff.
His dinner he’s making sounds yum
I absolutely adore these two! They have such good communication, are so positive, and will truly make it far in life together. So much respect for each other and seem to look at each other as best friends, which is so important. Really rooting for them!!
12:05 😂😂😂 I'm watching it after dark and I got scared
As someone who’s never had an income anywhere close to these people, seeing the over-spending makes me want to cry
135,000 in annual income and they’re in debt??? Wtf??? The couch is sweet, though.
I really liked this couple Gail. They did a fantastic job.
How does this show measure the line of credit amounts? Are they listing the total line of credit available or the amount that’s actually been used from the line of credit? It’s unclear to me because the show distinguishes between loans and lines of credit. Yes a loan is different from a line of credit in the technical sense. But for the purposes of calculating debt, you only get charged for the amount of the line of credit that’s been borrowed. So for the purposes of calculating debt just becomes a loan.
19:12 She tells them that if they put $3,000 toward their debt they will be debt-free in one year. But she also told them (and us) they are almost $70k in the hole. How can you pay $3,000 a month toward a mountain of debt that high and have it paid off in a year? The math doesn’t work. I don’t know why they are trying to bamboozle us.
Yeah, this show is useless and everything is invalidated.
Was thinking the same thing. Even with the $5k, that totals $41k to pay down a $68k debt.
The car loans aren't included in the $3000 per month
@@nataleep that makes sense but then why tell them they have “$x” debt and at the end say debt free in a year? Not the most clear/transparent but thanks for shedding some light on this discrepancy
@@andrewmorrison85 I understand how that can be confusing
I just dont get the 'entitlement' to sit-down, catered, glitzy weddings and honeymoons. So many people start off with debt, or put off getting married because expense is an obstacle
What a cute couple!
Hearing these numbers in 2024 like mehhh that ain’t so bad!! Haha
So cute
Gail still has the shovel ❤
Eating out is HUGELY more expensive than cooking at home. I have no idea how people can stomach the cost of eating out/buying coffee regularly.
I don’t understand; 3000 X 12=36,000. She said they owed 70,000. Please advise. Thanks
+$5,000. I assume this doesn’t include the car loan. But all other creditors. Often she specificles that but didn’t this time.
Omg Wedding are a sham! Go to the courthouse and use the money for a house or paying a debt
Can anyone identify Gail’s accent? I love it but I cant tell where it’s from?
Canada
@@MothraVsTheWorld ok thank you.
She was raised in Jamaica
This was filmed in around early 2000. $60,000/year is a very high income during that time. Banking managers and restaurant directors would make $60,000/year. That is equivalent to over $110,000/year adjusted for inflation.
Keep in mind that’s Canadian dollars with Canadian taxes and Canadian expenses.
For a couple that’s heavily in debt they sure are happy. They will probably just declare bankruptcy and do it all over again, while the rest of us pinch pennies and cut coupons 😮
Yeah what’s it to you? At least they’re happy. Go back to pinching pennies if that makes you happy or extra bitter
Parents, please don't raise kids like this. And encourage them to elope instead of wasting money on a big wedding that no one will remember except the bride, groom, and their parents.
Counting 401k loans as debt is utter nonsense. A 401k loan is moving your own money around. Whether one thinks it’s a good idea or not. It’s not like an auto loan or credit card debt.
They look like Safiya Nygaard and Chris Pratt lol
lol, now I can’t unsee this, you are right!
Where's Gail from? I like her accent!
I Googled her, she's Jamaican-Canadian.
I thought dental and med. covered in Canada.
Dental and medication? No. Insurance, if you have it and most people don’t have 100% coverage
Also if you don’t have insurance you pay for glasses, chiropractors, massage all out of pocket
You also pay for some treatment that isn’t deemed “absolutely necessary”. I needed jaw surgery (not at all cosmetic) and had to pay a portion of it out of pocket. I didn’t need it to survive, therefore not covered.
Completely depends. We have 80% coverage for dental, medical 100% and health care 100%. My husbands work pays us the remaining 20% dental so that’s technically 100% too. And we get 100% for chiro, vision and therapist. A lot of people don’t have benefits like this though.
It amazes me how people waste money on weddings! I'd be more concerned with keeping a roof over our heads
24k on car loans. Wow
I’m single
I own 6 expensive bicycles
But I don’t own a car and I have no debt
At all. I make $48k
She married up.
They are first couple gave present to Gail
$3000 of debt repayment a month and you're out of $69,000 of debt in 12 months????????
Was Gail in cohoots with the wedding industry, there are some things you can get for your wedding way cheaper just don’t buy it anywhere that has the word $$ wedding$$ in it
Love the show.
But the Canadian accents.
About = aboot??
That depends entirely on which part of Canada people are from. It would be like saying every American talks like they do in Texas, which simply isn't true lol. Where I am, I've never heard anyone pronounce it that way, but I know there are some people in the country that do
@@chubbybunny6975
A lot of people in the U.P. of Michigan have that northern accent. 😁
@@cjhoward409Also northern Wisconsin. I grew up in Ontario, been in USA for 45 years and still have Canadian accent for “about, out, shout” etc.
$3000 a month is $36000 a year. How does that get them debt free in one year? They were $70,000 in debt at the beginning of the show?
She’s not including the cars I believe.
Combine this show wirh married at first sight.
Five minutes in, she looks like Pugsley's twin from The Addams family
If they owe $70,000 and pay $3,000 a month for 12 months, that's only

She didn’t include the cars.
How do they get $1M retirement by saving $800 a month? Investment? I wish they show how.
yes investment, in the latter shows they did start to mention this part of it but the show is about debt and not investments.
And tax returns
Don’t underestimate compound interest. It builds up faster than you’d think.

All the more reason not to have a credit card. Glad I never had one
People can have credit cards without getting into trouble with them. A card is a convenience, not extra income.
I'm not crazy about them, but people need a credit history for mortgages and car loans, etc. The trick is not loosing your head.
Use them responsibly. When it comes time to get a mortgage or a car loan, no one is going to lend you anything bc you don't have a credit history.
@@nanettemorton4054 I have a credit card tied to my bank account that has excellent rewards. I don’t pay it off monthly - more like weekly. I don’t like carrying too much cash (I’m a senior and purse snatching is a reality). At Christmas I cash in the rewards for an extra $300 or so gift money. I can’t imagine not knowing where my finances stand.
@@MrsEJV Exactly. I don't want to walk around with a wad of money in my pocket-especially if I'm going for groceries or going to make a big purchase.
