Inside Look: Mick's HZ Holden GTS Muscle Car Interview

- On todays episode we talk to Mick about his recent restoration of his HZ GTS. Mick went back to original factory Specifications with this build and it doesn't disappoint. The HZ GTS has been gone right through, the White Palace Paint gives a clean look and includes colour coded bars and front and rear spoiler. I have not seen a White Palace HZ GTS in such a long time, I always see the Red GTS and Yellows, but never white.
Its running the original 253 V8 and Aussie 4 speed manual transmission and a Salisbury Diff. Its been worked just a little bit to give it more power. The interior has been retrimmed back to original, Mick was lucky enough to be able to source the fabric for the inserts. There was not much left so he snapped the covers up. The car has the Holden Honeycomb Wheels that were optional on these GTS models, and there is a story behind them as well.
All and all this car is another awesome classic that has been found brought and restored to its former glory.
Mick is also restoring a Valiant Charger 770 at the moment at his factory at work and its going to running the 265 engine with triple carbies. The new paint will differently stand out with this one as its going to be paint Plum Crazy Colour. I can not wait to see this one.
Cruising in the HZ holden GTS is a dream with super smooth suspension, gears shifting smoothly through the Aussie 4 Speed and the sound of the 253 Holden Engine. Just love it and you see that Mick was enjoying every moment as well.

What a ripper. I've had the pleasure of driving a replica of this exact car, but with 5 speed box statesman interior and chrome mirrors. The most comfortable Australian car ever made.....#1 ☝️

I'm not sure what year the horn button changed but I have a genuine white 79 HZ GTS sedan under resto. I have a set of honey combes for it. As stated the later vehicles came with 308 only and the litre badge on the boot lid was dropped so no drill holes for badge on right of boot says genuine. nice car mate. I hope mine comes out as well. Rear seat arm rest is genuine and despite the original pictures of the car from holden I don't think any had rear guard arial. Mine has blue interior with the optional plaide seat inserts. Cheers

Interesting fact the honey comb wheels are a steel rim and the honey comb is made by injected rubber on to the rim they came from America and were available on the Pontiac fire birds

You will get good support from the WA Charger Club over there…Jason Turner from World Upholstery Service in Willetton will be your man for trim ( you may know him already as he is a club member) and another member of the club is Bruce Muller, he will be your man at Blue Star Garage as the Chrysler Guru. Will be good to see another Mopar on the road with that Hemi Six with triples shown in the vid. Mopar or no car ❤
Great information about trimmer and services that great in WA and Australia. That way people no where to start looking and who people have recommended. I am looking forward to Charger being ready as well.

Fraser Coast, im the guy with the genuine 78 HZ GTS 308 QT engine, standard bore fully rebuilt, can hear it run on the floor
The 78 Model best big body Holden ever created,with RTS front disc brakes, and drveability, was an excellent car, Holden finally got it right, then came the bombadoor.😢
4 wheel disc brakes by then. It is said that the HZ is an HQ will all the bugs sorted out.

He still going to replace the door trims shortly back to original once he has some more funds.
Sweet, id lose the dropper tips tho and just go cut back 45's, yea ya gotta clean the bumpers a bit more but looks way more savage and not so much like garden taps 😂
