As an American, I'm really impressed with the muscle cars and classic cars in general you Australians produced. They really rival the Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers of the same time period.
That is an absolutely gorgeous Monaro. Sounds great and the paint work is awesome. Love, love, love green cars. I had a green SV5000 years ago, best car I ever had.
@@yamahaguy1732 not sure how old you are but I could cry when I think back to all the old HQ holdens, valiant regals and rangers, xm xp xr xw ect ect Falcons, me and my mates just took for granted and destroyed when we were teenagers....
My family had a red 71 HQ Monaro, 202, 3 on the tree, when I was about 13 (I am also a 71 model). Loved that car, but mum hated the heavy steering......so it was traded for a Toyota Corona, with power steering and air con, I still think about her from time to time. Beautiful car mate, congrats.
I remember reading about this in the street machine mag. Wicked car & love the fact they went with an old school engine rather then an LS but if it was my car I'd be throwing on a set of 15" drag rims straight away with some big rubber to have the old school pro street look
Omg, I'm freaking out. I prefer stock cars, but having listened to Craig's thought process, I very much appreciate the car. HQ Monaro happens to be my favourite car anyway. Oh, his next build is a Teal Green VK? My first car was a Teal Green VK Calais. And, he's from Camden? That's where I was born. Great vid. Thank you
Did I see white smoke coming out the back as you drove down the road a few times? Was that left over smoke from a burnout or was it coming from the exhaust? Bloody nice car and I agree, would never choose green for one of my cars but I like that green. It pops, well done!
I grew up on the Mad Max movies here in the US, always loved the cars in the movies but at that time in the 80s I was too young to understand that these were Australian cars. At heart I'm a Japanese car kind of guy but I absolutely love the Australian classic muscle cars..... what I would give to import a Monaro coupe, XB Falcon, A Sandman Panel Van, Valiant Charger and of course a Phase 3 Falcon.
In the opening chase of Mad Max this was Night Riders car. They put a rocket in the back of the car for the crash. Very cool caar "..a piece of history.."
I had a Monaro SS 253, green too. back in my day I paid $5000, , it had a 350 sticker on the back with straight pipes, had a way of muffling them down when the cops pulled me over for being to loud, took and hour as soon as the sticker came off so did the mufflers.who would have though I'd need $80k to get is back today.
That's one wide ass cowl scoop , Nek Minnute gets sold to someone in Adelaide's western subs or Vics Geelong and Cennas get put on it and everyone likes it more :D :P
Its what happens when spastics put a massive stroker crank in a standard sleeve length block. The pistons skirts actually end up pulling out the bottom of the block de-stabalising the piston leading to all manner of problems. These problems start off with poor ring seal and end with a mix of broken shit sitting in the sump. When you go a big crank get the correct sleeve length block chaps or you might end up like old mate fanta.
Looks like I have to spell it out to captain spastic here. When you have a stroker crank the distance the piston travels up and down is increased. If you go a much bigger than standard crank the distance the piston now moves exceeds the ability of the bore to sleeve it. No the block IS NOT SLEEVED YOU FUCKING SPASTIC. The skirt of the piston is pulling ever so slightly out of the bottom of the block making it unstable, this then causes it to rock over time which leads to fucked ring seals and then smoke. Long story short, only a fucking spastic would put a big stroker crank in a standard block and this bloke is a spastic in spades.
Base Monaro 173ci & 202ci sixes & 253ci & 308ci Australian Holden designed V8’s, Monaro LS same as previous but with the deletion of the 173ci six & the addition of the 350ci Chevrolet V8, Monaro GTS with 253 & 308 holden V8’s & the 350 chev with manual & auto transmission options i e Aussie autos & 3 & 4 speed manuals also the turbo-hydramatic on some V8’s
I have a C5 Corvette which I love, but I'd trade it any day to get this exact Holden Monaro only w a left hand drive. I don't think any were ever made for left hand drive as they were never exported to any left hand drive countries. To have one of these in a left hand drive here in America would be the ultimate head turner because you just do not see these here. The closest thing I would compare it to in looks is a cross between a 1970 Chevelle and a 1968 AMX Javelin.
Probably more design cues from Chevelle l always thought, as a matter of fact Holden used a lot of interchangeable bits from Pontiac (rally type wheels on GTS) & Chevrolet engines etc. and has a lot in common with mechanical bits from Chevrolet.
Also have to say that I find it hilarious but us Americans put Holden badges on the Chevy SS, the G8 GT, and GTO which we all know are Australian cars rebadged but I never expect that Australians to put Chevy badges on Holden's
Yep so true! But keep in mind that we did build previous Holden models in right hook for export as Chevrolet’s such as our Holden statesman & other models from our Australian factory to places like South Africa etc. that predated holdens badged as Chevy and pontiacs to the USA by many decades! Also you could buy a Holden commodore from the dealer as a chev badged car from new, so it’s much the same as you exporting some of you vehicles badged as Holdens ie the Holden Suburban!
RIP headphone users when the music kicks in...... need to consider putting more engine sounds in the background rather than doof doof music at 30% higher volume than the voiceover.
As an American, I'm really impressed with the muscle cars and classic cars in general you Australians produced. They really rival the Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers of the same time period.
Check out the e49 6pack valiant, absolute little beast.
AUSTRALIA
Yep, them days are well and truly gone.
Thanks to the USA for the great motors we chuck in them
@@gmhq6101 looks like Scott Morrison ain't the only Aussie brown nosing the yanks lately..
probably de BEST Monaro build Ive seen so far!! Those intro old skool wheels are still the best today!
Dad had one when i growing up as a kid always loved them. My favourite colour and car. She is so beautiful
That is an absolutely gorgeous Monaro. Sounds great and the paint work is awesome. Love, love, love green cars. I had a green SV5000 years ago, best car I ever had.

Ive never liked the looks of a lot of the hero Aussie muscle cars, but the HQ 2 door is unique and stacks up looks wise to anything out of the US

HQ Monaro Coupes would have to be one of the best looking cars to ever come out of Australia!
This model should be resurrected and sold worldwide!

How do you build a "stroker"? Or have you been stroking to the east stroking to the west?
Emerald green looks nice
That thing doesn't turn heads, it snaps necks!

love the production quality and cars. a bit more variety would be nice also. :)
Yeah, I reckon put five wheels on it.
Sweet as.what do you think holy ghost
1:31 ....and he's a bracket racer, I like that
Blowing a bit of white smoke there brother. Might have to look at them blow by rings before you drop a piston.
If you want something to stay shiny for a few days after sandblasting you have to oil it. Then you have to thoroughly clean it before primer.
Lovely but it needs period correct rims.
and bonnet and interior
does not appear to hook up well from pole light, needs frame connectors under carriage ?????
That’s fucken awesome
It's not an addiction it's a lifestyle
Would love to have one of these US conversion nice car
US conversion? Its importable and federally road legal under the 25 year law.....what conversion would be needed?
Wish my old man would buy me a Monaro..

The paint of your car wouldn't be by chance, Poison Ivy?.. 🙂
mint hq amazing finish.
but why does it smoke more than a mitze van with 300kms on the clock.?
Big stroker crank in standard sleeve length bore.
In short, engine built by a mong ordering parts out a magazine.
Awesome that he drives this car and gives it shit!
