  • Installing and comparing Shimano 12 speed SLX and SRAM Eagle NX Derailleur. Yes that is right, Shimano Derailleur with all other parts being SRAM Eagle.

    Sram can beat Shimano on high-end level (XX1) but for the middle-end until low, Sram product is truly junk.

    Ditching my floppy, fussy and non durable NX for an SLX with XT shifter.

      At least this gives an upgrade path when you break a sram derailleur. Maybe if RUclips starts bringing in enough money for me to drop on an xt derailleur I can do a comparison.

    I have a deore 12spd rn works super great and reliable, definitely prefer it to the unreliable sram sx. NX and above are really good though, I also like that everything in SRAM eagle line up is easily compatible

    thanks for the video. Question, currently i have nx setup which components are interchangeable between sram and shimano 12 speed drivetrains? Thank you.

    • @leafydialupking1
      @leafydialupking1  4 года назад +3

      Cranksets are universal as long as they fit your bottom bracket.
      Cassettes should interchange between the two of them, and also the sunrace, zotto, and other off brand ones.
      And since the Shimano Derailleur works with the SRAM shifter I would assume it works the other way as well.

    • @leafydialupking1
      @leafydialupking1  4 года назад +2

      Also to update, you can run a shimano chain on a sram cassette and sprocket, but not the other way around, the extra chamfer on the shimano 12 speed chain means a sram chain wont sit correctly on shimano sprockets.

    Do you have a review for shifting of slx rd to Sram shifter and cassettes.

      That's basically what this video is, I have a part 2 video here where I talk about it after long term use. ruclips.net/video/J10114w0b2I/видео.html
      But basically Shimano > SRAM at the lower end at least. I'm not a dentist so I cant exactly swing X01 or XTR money to test.

    How do you find the weight of the NX cassette? I’m doing the same converting to a budget 12 speed 1x. Got SLX shifter, SLX derailer and was going sunrace cassette, but.... found a steal of a deal for the nx cassette and chain together. But i know its like 200 grams heavier. Do you really notice it as an average rider? Thanks

    • @leafydialupking1
      @leafydialupking1  3 года назад +1

      I've never noticed it. I mean the bike isn't particularly light to begin with and I only really notice the weight of the bike when I pick it up to put it in the truck.

      @@leafydialupking1 thanks for the reply. And a great video. Exactly, thats what i’m thinking. I have a GT Avalanche. Its not exactly top spec. 200 grams is nothing really. A lot of wet mud to the tyres would create the same amount
      But a plus point i guess is the steel cassette will be more durable. I mean Sram say its ok to use on E bikes

      @@Downhillfromhere23 yeah the only thing I've heard about it reliability wise is that it can mangle aluminum free hub bodies. But that's only a problem when you have to remove it

    So is everything nx but the Derailleur? I have the same setup but I was wondering if the shifter also has to be shimano slx 12spd m7100

    • @leafydialupking1
      @leafydialupking1  3 года назад

      Yes. I've since gone to an xt shifter and the shifting got slightly better though. I mainly swapped the shifter because my nx one was wearing out and I wanted double up shift from the xt.

      Maybe on quality but not price. You can buy the slx derailleur and an xt shifter for less than the price is the gx derailleur.

    I've been using both Sram and Shimano 12 speed for a while. The biggest weakness of Shimano is in its low durability and reliability, not stable enough for today's drive trends.
    I can no longer get the satisfaction that Shimano gave me in the past. I recently changed to Sram axs, and it is the best performance of drivetrains I have used in 20 years.
    The shift problem has disappeared structurally. The Axs is a new world.

    • @leafydialupking1
      @leafydialupking1  3 года назад +4

      Damn really? My slx has been way way better than my nx. My nx needed to be adjusted every other ride to keep the middle of the cassette shifting well and the slx after 2 years has needed 1 adjustment after I smashed it into a tree. Which is pretty good considering the slx derailleur is cheaper than even an sx derailleur.
      Axs is definitely the way to go though the parallegram spring is why my nx sucked and it's really the limiting factor in derailleurs now for shift quality and reliability. Axs gets rid of it, but it's still rather expensive. I'll probably wait until shimano perfects it before I make the leap since even the gx axs conversion kit costs like half as much as my bike.

    • @leafydialupking1
      @leafydialupking1  4 года назад +5

      Dollar for dollar I have to disagree. The SLX bits are ~13% cheaper than NX while the build quality is noticeably better, ad the shifting quality is significantly better while being much less finicky. Maybe GX is better than SLX but you can buy an SLX derailleur and an XT shifter for what the GX derailleur costs.

      No way, Shimano every time. The nx eagle is trash compared to the slx. Had the NX eagle, and changed over to a slx drivetrain, oh man is it better.
