When the "Cowboy" era began, Cap and ball pistols were being used. They transitioned to cartridge guns by the end. America's first "Gunfighter" James Hickock, used cap and ball pistols mostly. His favorite being the 1851 Colt Navy. (But I am sure "experts" out there have different opinions)
yes he was famous for his love of his 36's. Sadly i havent seen any 36 navys in reproduction (the ones that claim to be Navy models are only in 44 which is Army caliber)
I have a replica colt peace maker and two models of Winchester model 1873. I don't fire them often (.45 long colt ammo is not inexpensive), but I love them. I grew up in the 1950s and 60s when there were many Western TV shows. And they all had these guns, so when I grew up and had a little money, these were among the first guns I bought.
You mentioned that .45 long Colt ammunition is not inexpensive. You are right about that. The only way I can afford to target shoot with my .45 revolver is to reload for it. The only .45 long Colt to be had off the shelf here is what is called “cowboy action” which has a much smaller measure of powder in it. The cowboy action shooters are shooting at short range and the smaller amount of powder lessens recoil so it’s easier to fan the gun. Btw, I have noticed that when western movie actors fan their six shooter, the guns muzzle jumps around and wondered if actually hit the target. Next time you watch a western movie, watch the gun muzzle instead of the intended target while the actor is fanning it. You don’t always get to see that.
I used to work on the PD, at one time I traded a fellow a Mini-14 for a Smith and Wesson Model 25-5 in .45 Long Colt, it made a nice duty weapon, the pistol was built on the same frame as the famous Model 29 in .44 Mag so it had a very strong frame and could handle very hot loads in the .45 Colt caliber. One day a fellow offered me his motor cycle in trade for the pistol, well I wanted a motor cycle more then I wanted the pistol so I did the trade. Got a nice bike out of the deal, but I kind of missed my big hog leg.
The Video mixes pictures of the Gatling gun with water cooled machine guns. The machine guns use the power of firing to operate. Gatling guns are traditionally hand cranked, but modern versions may use electric power
The S&W...but I should mention. If I remember my high school mags, the stopping power on these babies is scary. You have to watch your background with S&W.
My favorite has always been the Henry rifle. With the colt peace maker a close second. Thank you for this video. I found it both entertaining and educational.

But some times innocent people had .45's of their own and the bad guys got what they were asking for. Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, Gene Autry, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, William Holden and many more. My favorite gun is the model 3 revolver
‘Our time has passed..John.’
when I'm gone, they'll just find another monster
I grew up in a world where all good guys had a Colt .45. Bad guys ad guns that they used to hurt innocent people. But some times innocent people had .45's of their own and the bad guys got what they were asking for. Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, Gene Autry, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, William Holden and many more. To be a good guy one must own and know how to use a fire arm including regular training ans especially safe protocalls and proper safe storage, and belive me there are a lot of great new ways to secure your tools for protection.
A icônica e inconfundível voz de Antonio Boco. Narração formidável.
From your visuals vs audio; Gatling Maxim 😎 ain't even in steampunk 😤
Winchester 1873, sans aucun doute !
Jung Junge, hier bekommt man ja ein Schleudertrauma im Trommelfell so schnell wie du die KI eingestellt hast!
