Bought it. One of the best decisions i ever made. Had it over a year now and still wax and polish it at least twice a week when I'm home(use meguiar's kit though not autoglym Pete). Will find it difficult to replace if I ever have to get a new car. Got new wheels put on it, twice, and going to get it remapped soon too. Love it, called him Victor!
I know its been 9 years but if by rare chance you still use this account, do you still own this car or did you sell it/what happened to it. Just wondering is this car is still around.
really? how cool... I always wondered what happened to it, remember it so fondly. Sold it shortly after this video and had quite a few since. It's still the longest I've ever owner a car at three years... Bought the new S90 for business in November and Volvo have still got the magic! Shame it's not a V8 though!
thompps Mildy amusing how the top of the range S80 has a V8, yet fast forward a decade later and the top of the range S90 has a 4 banger, supplemented with electricity.
This is an awesome car. I purchased the same car 18 months ago and it has exceeded my expectations. The motor sounds great outside, however it is best heard from inside the cabin -above 3000rpm the Yamaha tuned induction grunts hard. Yes an M3 or C63 is faster and louder and a better steerer, however not for anywhere near the money. And when you compare the quality of the build and the interior, add the sound and it makes little difference unless you are on a race track. Great Video.
I'm biased being a Volvo owner (new V40 and 16yo V70) - it's gorgeous, different and not a bloody German car!!! Enjoy :D The noise is just phenomenal!! I'm jealous :P
RichieT5 “And not a bloody German car!!!” LOL!! Gotta LOVE the British HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I’m laughing hard because I don’t disagree with you. I’m on my third Saab since 1992 and tomorrow September 14, 2018 I’m picking up my second Volvo since 2010, a pre-owned S80 that I’ve always wanted to own and look forward to it indeed. I finally gave up German car ownership in 2010 after owning them since 1983, with the purchase of my Saab 9-5 and Volvo 940 and haven’t looked back since to those German money pit cars. Swedish cars are underrated and understated.
@@jetstream454 The only brand from Germany that I haven't owned is Porsche. I've had four VW's, three Audi's, one BMW (the BIGGEST and endless money pit ever) and two Mercedes-Benz (123 coupe & 126 SEL sedan). I enjoyed them all while I owned them but in retrospect, they (the BMW = Break My Wallet & the S-Class Benz) drained my wallet as I was robbed WITHOUT the gun.
It was re designed in 2007, and 2013. The D5 is a work of art. Nothing goes wrong with them, they are built like a brick shithouse. I have seen many D5 S60's go in for services at 400k miles and still running like a dream. On the motorway, they are really the only engines we can push to their full 155 mph without them blowing up. They are just s well built its unreal. Lots of the components of the 2.4 unit are designed for a 4.2 diesel engine. thats why they are so strong.
The quickest way to get the car "off the choke" is to drive off gently as soon as the oil pressure is up. Engines tend to warm up quicker when they're working.
Beautiful ride. In my biased opinion, the P3 S80 with the V8 is the best luxury/cruising car ever made. At least for a reasonable price. Good fuel economy for a V8, very comfortable ride, striking good looks, and as always with Volvo, one of the safest cars on the road. For anyone concerned about the Haldex AWD system; It is actually a very reliable system. At least when properly taken care of. The early to mid 2000's had some issues with the angle gear leaking, but anyone with mechanical aptitude would be able to reseal one themselves. The only major issues with the Haldex systems are the oil pumps and pressure sensors failing. Both fairly cheap parts. Nonetheless, one of my favorite realistic cars on the road. My absolute favorite car is the Lambo Murcielago Lp 670-4 SV. But I know I will never actually own one.
yes, the sound of it in the morning is just something special. and if there is 20 degrees below zero Celsius it just might wake up the neighbors. very nice car!:)
Since the S80, I have had a Jaguar XKR which I love so much, but have since started doing proper mileage and got a Jaguar XF 3.0d which feels familiar and yet so different to drive. It's lovely, but doesn't make you feel 'special' like the XKR does - I've never driven a car so loved by everyone else on the road! XKR for sale on Autotrader right now (April 2012) - so if you want an example you know has been loved, get in touch!
They are rated at a tad 6 seconds, for a car with 2.2 tons of weight that ain't bad. However, in reality the AWD and a good driver makes it sooooo much quicker ! I had one that was doing an easy 5.5 to 60, and well under 10 secs to 100.
Best S80 V8 for sale now, and probably will be the best for some time to come. Black with caramel leather, fully loaded and a total car freak as it's owner! My neighbours laugh at me polishing it sometimes twice a week!! Autoglym Super Resin Polish followed by Autoglym High Definition Wax, plus Autoglym leather cleaner and then Balm. And no I don't work for Autoglym lol! At least two hours every week on this car.
Thanks for all the comments!! It's good to see a Volvo can still produce lots of positive reaction! The new S60R is such a ncie looking car, be interesting to see what the new S80 will look like. However, they have stated that going forward they will only sell inline 4cyl engines, so it looks like this really is a one off car with low volume! Dam I wished I kept this car!! As requested, finally got short video of new one! See the Jaguar XKR on my channel.

I'm a true blue certified car nut who spends most of my free time dreaming of cars and what I'll buy next. I normally get a new car every year or so, kept this for 3.5!! Nothing like seeing the face of a BMW or Audi driver when you leave their tailgating butts for dust! Oh, and although now under offer, £12.5k in the next couple of days will still secure this car... It's no-ones until the money is in my hands! ;) Best
@ Tatarstan: and I agree the Jaguar XF is great. I looked very seriously at the XF SV8 or the XFR and loved them. They had a handling edge and obviously much more modern intertior. Ultimately, I was driving to my dealer having transferred the money into my account to buy an SV8 and pulled off the motorway. I just couldn't justify the £30k on top of my Volve I was paying to get it. Just not enough imrovement. Hence I went for the Jaguar XKR. A whole different proposition, so justifiable! :)
@Larryparry1: It is a big car with lots of equipment and a chassis that even on active 'Advanced' suspension setting is not geared to really throwing it about in a serious manner. Suprising good as a B road tool though, and the steering can be adjusted from Heavy to Light to suit your style of driving. It is a 4.4L V8 by the way, not a 5L (or at least this one was, can't imagine another as it was commissioned to Yamaha to enable a small block tranversely mounted V8 to keep Volvos safety zone.)
Yamaha did the engine on those V8 Volvos, did you know? Image that engine inside the Volvo 242, that would be ace, nothing can beat an RWD car in terms of that pure joy going around corners really wide, it's the thrill of your life if you ever get the chance to really go wild. Well, I don't need that engine now, because I have another rare engine to look up, as my rare Volvo 265 had a cooperatively developed engine with Peugeot, Renault and Volvo. @Larryparry1:Oh just noticed u were referring to your current car 5L V8! whoops! :p And WRT to your 4WD question, it is a Haldex 2nd gen permenant 4 wheel drive system that reacts very fast to loss of traction (which is pretty much 90% with 312 bhp on tap!). So it kicked in plenty (not noticable) and spends most of its time in FWD without you knowing it. Point is it feels like a 4WD, not RWD or FWD. Pushing on sees a tendancy to understeer which is as much to do with front end weight as anything
@AlfaAsher: lol at the Johnny Depp, my wife wishes :) Funnily enough I just got her an XC60 to replace the XC90 she had, it is such an awesome car. I don't know if I have heard such an interesting sounding diesel before. Sounds like four-pot raucous loveliness. You realize you sound like Johnny Depp? But more to the point, thats a lovely car, I'm getting a S60 right now since I'm young and I'll opt for an S80 like yours when I have a family, and my fiancee will be getting a xc60 whether she likes it or not
@ TheTallMan: it's the door shutting! :) - what did you expect, a cow moo?! BTW - if you are really are talll, you will love this car. Comfiest car for big people and I've tested a lot. I'm 6"6. I know have a Jaguar XKR, which is comfy enough, but not the same proposition as the lovely Volvo was on long journeys.
@thompps it is front wheel drive with you knowing it very well.this haldex system is much crappier compared to the leading awd system quattro made by audi.the haldex is fwd all the time and starts to send power slowly to the rear wheels also the depending on how much more do you press the gas pedal.its biased on fuel economy but when to be compared with other awd systems like the one mentioned before its not that good and they also are not very reliable.
@Thompps: Is there much understeer with the AWD when you throw it around a bit? Am I right to assume that, like the S60, the S80 is primarily a FWD, unless grip is needed in the rear? I'm looking to upgrade car from my existing RWD saloon with 5.0L V8. Have always loved RWD, and do not like the handling of a FWD, should I steer clear of this car?
@TATARSTAN59500 i do apologize maybe i should think things through however I have a 2005 porsche boxter you have a jag(very nice car i applaud you) and he has an S80 all im saying is your car means something only to you and don't put a $50,000 car down by the way i'm 16 I just got my car 3 months ago my parents pay the insurance and I pay for gas and monthly payments I think thats damn good for my age but seriously jags are some awesome kick ass cars by the way what year?
excellent car, but not a proper volvo anymore. what i love about the oldies is their rwd tail-happiness and slight silliness) and the feeling of a huge car which isn't actually that big. this one is just a very nice car. i wish volvo (or volveely now) made some rwd models again.
sagga magga Another thing to add is the XC90 and the S80 are based on the same platform as the 08+ Ford Taurus and the 05+ Ford Five Hundred would make an nice swap. Ford also states that this is not related to the older Ford Taurus SHOs with yamaha engines. I kinda call BS on it what I bet happened is Ford ordered them for the future taurus but the current CEO wanted Ford's models to start with F, and thats why they discontinued the Taurus name. They renamed the future Taurus to the Five Hundred for a year but switched back when the new CEO realised it was a dumb idea. But they had the engines now and the Taurus was supposed to disappear, the SHO was a Taurus name so they just gave them to Volvo. Volvo has put them to good use and right now a moded version of the 4.4L powers Volvo's S60s in V8 supercars. This engine also powers the Noble's M600 supercar.
Wow, this video sure has sparked some debate. I have to comment on the V8 sound discussion, first thing to say is that in no way did the quality of recording give you anything other than a flavour of what it sounds like in the flesh, much more bass! That car was actually quite Detroit sounding, far more than my Jag XKR which was more European V8 sounding although plenty loud with baffles open ;). Also, for those who might be interested, I always claimed to merriment of exotic car owning frie
What every V8 needs is a true dual exhaust without crossover (or at most an h-pipe). Your Volvo Ys into a single pipe in the middle before splitting up into two mufflers in the back again. That single pipe in the middle mixes all the uneven firing pulses and turns the typical V8 burble into an even sounding exhaust note. Similar to a flatplane V8. So yeah if you true dualed yours it would’ve sounded like a typical US V8, even with two separate cats and mufflers.
This S80 V8 is magnificent but how can You say active bixenons in 03:28 when it has H7 bulbs for high beams so it's a single xenon for low beam only. Fantastic car no doubt about that :)
Its good, well as good as a 4.4 v8 can be... around 30 mpg combined I was getting. However, if you like the car nut need really good fuel economy then Volvo offer a 1.6 diesel drive version which is amazing on fuel at 62 mpg combined, or the 2.0 diesel thats not far off. My pick would be the 2.4 D5. Its very brisk, good on fuel and bombproof. The 2.4 D5 engine has been in production for a long time, and innovated for the best performance so very reliable. The police get 300k+ miles out of the D5
Hi, I used a Sanyo Vcacti VPC something or other. A small HD camera. I have to say though, in all regards my camera phone (Samsung Galaxy 2S) is better and full HD, not half. Check out my Heli video, which is only 720p on RUclips, real video is 1080p.
S80 shit? Hmm, a litle harsh to say the least. Just a brand thing I guess. The S80 was a great car and I could have bought any of th usual suspects instead. I liked it because it offered great pace, unrivalled motorway comfort and tech only seen on a BMW 7 series / Merc S at the time. I have owned a lot of cars & bikes , many just for months as I love my cars. I kept the S80 for 3.5 years and I still miss it a bit.
I cant be the only person that hears a car like that and thinks its broken. Am i? Because it does. It sounds rubbish. And very few people have any productive use for an auto petrol 4.4 4x4. I mean what kind of mpg do you get from that thing? You must have have to stop by the petrol station on the way to the shop, and on the way back! Do you get a discount from BP for keeping them in business? It wouldn't be my choice. But each to their own I suppose.
this engine is bulletproof and has a sound all its own. i work at a volvo dealership and beg to get these in my bay so i can drive it when im done!

Beautiful car
excellent car, but not a proper volvo anymore. what i love about the oldies is their rwd tail-happiness and slight silliness) and the feeling of a huge car which isn't actually that big.
this one is just a very nice car. i wish volvo (or volveely now) made some rwd models again.
I wonder if you could find a supercharger to fit it....
lovely car mate!!!! ive got the same but with useless 2.0l petrol engine ;))))
What a beautiful car! is just amazing!! I want one!
BTW doyou know the name of this song? --> 7:48
truly love the car, why would u go 4 bmw if you got this beauty out - but the engine 4.4 - monsterrrrrrrr!
serious question mate do you plan on selling that soon?
Fajne auto ;) v8
Is that a stock exhaust? Or costum?
Very nice car !
Volvo 4 life !
Greetz
What car did you buy instead of this ?
witch year is the XC90? 05?
Bet you're regretting selling it now!
Is this the same engine from the XC90 4.4 v8 ?
yes it is the same yamaha engine as the XC90 it should have a 6 speed tranny made in japan hooked to a AWD system made by the swedes
awsome, thanks man.
sagga magga
Another thing to add is the XC90 and the S80 are based on the same platform as the 08+ Ford Taurus and the 05+ Ford Five Hundred would make an nice swap.
Robert Hollar you should write a novel about it man, I almost cried.
How could you leave without Volvo?
I have a v8 one like that but no radar or satnav
Really LOVE 1:05!!!!!
What year model is this s80 2008?
Its good, well as good as a 4.4 v8 can be... around 30 mpg combined I was getting. However, if you like the car nut need really good fuel economy then Volvo offer a 1.6 diesel drive version which is amazing on fuel at 62 mpg combined, or the 2.0 diesel thats not far off. My pick would be the 2.4 D5. Its very brisk, good on fuel and bombproof. The 2.4 D5 engine has been in production for a long time, and innovated for the best performance so very reliable. The police get 300k+ miles out of the D5
Right drivers..
Whats heavier? A ton of feathers or a ton of bricks?
2 cars doing 70 on the motorway. One is a 1.6 and one is a 3.0
Which is faster?
Must be a bit heavy on fuel
:31 "Fine looking caaa"
the swedish secret service use this, either the T6 version or this.
whut year
If you ever want to sell it please let me know lol
Btw it Haldex not haldron.
Is this 4.4 V8 reliable engine?
Very. Yamaha units
Yeah thanks.
Engine yes, gearbox no. Especially on older models.
Does Any one know of this is good with gas??
Hi, I used a Sanyo Vcacti VPC something or other. A small HD camera. I have to say though, in all regards my camera phone (Samsung Galaxy 2S) is better and full HD, not half. Check out my Heli video, which is only 720p on RUclips, real video is 1080p.
2007 8or9.2010volvo change the logo at the grill.
기아 엔터프라이즈 능가할만
하네!
1:06 who the fuck authorized that as a standard exhaust sound? Too loud for early morning start...
Around 0-60 mph in 5Seconds
haha, my dad have`s one :)
This is my dad
Nice car there, and your Dad does good enjoyable videos going by this 👍
I cant be the only person that hears a car like that and thinks its broken.
