One thing that makes your podcasts enjoyable to watch and listen to is your respect for each other. You have a good flow of conversation without over-speaking and interrupting each other. That is a skill even with two participants, but with three in the group you guys have learned to share and take turns while still keeping the conversation flowing. Good for you!

hi guys. I'm a old widow lady that watches all three of you regularly. I have heard all three names plus stocking caps. About the filter, how about taking it out and back flushing it monthly. I did that when I lived in Arizona and it saved on replacement of the final filters that weren't cheap. If you replace your furnace/ac filter monthly just put it on the list of first of the month tasks and could save time and money. Great content, keep up the good work 😊

Toque, toboggan, beanie... I've heard them all. Personally, I call the knitted winter hat/beanie a toboggan, even though I also call a snow-sled a toboggan. I grew up in a home where my dad was a college professor -- old school -- so my vocabulary is pretty well-rounded, because of him. Thanks Dad!

I wondered where Contra Dance would come from!! Jason brought it up. My RUclips channel name for years was DanceGypsy, a contradance term. Usually, cities would have (some still have) a contaadance group and once a year, each city would hold a dance weekend. Dancegypsies were the people who loved it so much, they'd travel from state to state to attend the differently-themed dance weekends, in addition to going to the regularly held local dances. I LOVE CONTRA DANCE!!

Here in UK Shepherds Pie is only made with ground lamb and gravy (some onions are also allowed). However no vegetables (apart from the onion). Anything with veg - carrots peas etc becomes cottage pie but using just ground beef also counts as cottage pie as well.

Let see what Al will have next on the menu, will it be "oven baked beaver with home grown veggies or beaver pot roast with all the trimmings, or breakfast biskits and beaver gravy, yum yum !!!

Yay, top 1% of podcasts! I'm so glad you're still doing this great homestead talk that is so fun to hear from you three! I'm so glad your pig butchering class went so well Ben. That was such a good idea that you butchered the 7th pig before the class so you could have some of the food from it to serve to the students. The Guinea hog butchering sounds interesting. Wow, over 2 inches of fat! I'm glad you fixed your well Jason! Thanks for the tip about H2O mechanic! Crazy that it was the little filter! Wow, $180 to be told that! Our well is 300 feet! Our well was drilled in 1982 and it's still going. Our pressure stitch had to be replaced. So far our pressure tank is still working. I make Shepard's pie with hamburger but I got the recipe from my husband. I like it. I haven't heard of "Contra" dancing. It does sound fun! I'm glad you got your CanAm Defender side by side. I'm glad you traded up! The change over for the tracks seemed to go well. The beaver is frozen in the freezer. I thought the trap killed it fast! I couldn't believe that people thought it starved to death? Our gopher traps kill the gophers instantly! Deer season. Thanks for this talk guys!

The pressure switch is adjustable. For high pressure ( I would recommend around 60 psi, and lower pressure to start to pressure up (50). But you’re able to set it how you want my lawn pump has no tank and it runs at 50 when I water the lawn.

I am in Missouri and the guy I use to buy appliances from retired and built a house on his property he planned for retirement. He planted his orchard where he was going to build his house and sitting at the dining table he could view the orchard. Deer season rolls around he sits at the table drinking coffee until a deer shows up, Slides the patio door open and shoots the deer, then after his coffee is done, he goes and deals with it. No shivering in a blind for him and he fills his freezer every year. He planned for that for years knowing that those fruit trees would draw them. The orchard went in years before the house was built but he knew what plans and everything early.

TIo clarify the statement human kind changes the environment to suite our needs the most, second only two the Beaver. The impact on both plant life and animal is a mixed bag. Beavers have a negative impact on Al's Forrest, however, Nevada is experiencing a positive climate change resulting in the greening of the desert where lands have been preserved from over grazing by cattle. The Beaver naturally return, dating up washes which fill up during monsoon season, retain flow throughout the year, which increases fertility of the lang which inhances all vegetation. The cattle can then be rationally grazed requiring less acreage needed per head of cattle. A win, win, win for Beaver, cattle and ranchers. So another example of one man's curse is another man's blessing.
I enjoy you banter gentlemen. I've been watching all of you for year and was thrilled to see your collaboration even across so many miles. Blessings abundant to you all and your lovely families.

I love these no specific topic pod cast. This was great. I enjoyed hearing about the different rules of hunting depending on where you live. Speaking of your beaver problem Al, there is a fellow that had a place in upstate NY I believe. He wanted to build a pond on his property. His local government said absolutely not. He could not be taking down trees to expand the stream into the pond. Well a year or so later, a beaver and his mate found their stream and decided that is where they wanted to build their house and raise a family. So they built a huge dam, thusly putting in a very large pond, exactly where this gentleman wanted it. So he called the local authorities and asked them to come and blow up the dam because the beavers had built a big pond on his land. They told him. absolutely not, they could not disturb the wild life in and around his land. He said OK, and he now had a pond that he didn't have to build, and he had all manner of wild life enjoying it, as well as he himself did. That's government for you. Y'all have a Blessed week.

I've hear many southerners call a knitted hat a toboggan. A toboggan is a flat wooden sled with a curled front that normally seas up to 8 people. We had one as kids. Our shepherds pie started as the mashed potato, ground beef, cream corn, can of cream of chicken soup and some cheese on top. Over the years my daughter adapted her to a layer of jiffy cornbread batter, shredded chicken or turkey, corn and broccoli, can of cream of chicken or mushroom soup, layer of mashed potatoes and topped with cheese. It's really good but you can change it up to taste as you like.

Pretty much during the colder weather. Gave us something to do outside the house on dark cold evenings. Contra dancing is very fun, repetitive steps for each dance so easy to learn, memorize, then show off your dancing! Kids were always welcome to join in. A great exercise!

I've always heard that shepherds pie was lamb meat. In the Midwest, my mom made cottage pie with burger, tomato sauce, mixed vegetables (whatever the favorites are), and topped with mashed potatoes.
And with beaver, turning it into a pulled barbecue is delightful. It's like a dark beef roast. So very good!

A couple does in my area actually come onto my acre to have their fawns in spring. They do that because they feel safe from the coyotes here. I scared the baby because I didn't even see him, and he could barely run he was so new. After a day or two, mom takes baby and moves back up the forested hill where they live. Deer are on my acre every single night.

Contra dancing sounds like what we call square dancing. My people and my late husbands came from Scotland and England to Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.

Shotgun started Nov 15 to Dec 31. Here you get a Deer license 1 buck @$30? I think now use to be $15. Doe is a drawing of names, number of people based on the acreage per section. No rifles allowed in lower Michigan. But the upper peninsula they can use rifles. A Sportsmans license is over $100.
But fishing license is separate and I know a "trout stamp" has to be purchased separately and there is another, I think salmon. Our deer are large too. Down south they are tiny.

The "winter cap" is called (in the Marines & Navy) a watch cap ... there are many names for them and your "beanie" is good enough and we know what you're talking about ... some people refer to them as Tobogans and knit & slouch caps and many other names ...

21 and done?! Heck no!!! I sure hope not! I enjoy listening to all three of you!❤️🥰🙏🏻🍁🇨🇦Toque is what we call them but I have heard them called tobbaggon but I think that might be from Iceland or the Netherlands. Shepherds pie we make with fried ground beef with onions, corn but not creamed, peas, carrots and mashed potatoes on top and served with rich brown gravy on top. It’s delicious! 🇨🇦

You’re right Al. French Canadians call it a tuque. That’s the french word for winter hat.

My mother is British. Cottage Pie is a beef Shepard's pie and yes lamb is traditional in Shepard's pie. We always called it Shepard's Pie. We almost always used beef that was browned with onion and Bisto Gravy mix a layer of peas and the spuds on top because lamb is so expensive over here in the US. Its a shame, most Americans don't know how amazing, good lamb is, probably because the lamb sold here is what would be called mutton in England. Mutton is an older larger animal and the flavor of the lamb changes not for the better on an older lamb in my opinion.
