I cannot express how excited and happy I was to see you in my notifications. It is because of you that i was able to finish my first oil painting almost a year ago which gave me the confidence to continue this journey of dealing with grief from the loss of my teenage daughter last July and given me the ability to get out of the deepest darkest depression I have ever been in. Thank you!

absolutely beautiful and great to see you back, you are winning you done this and thats something more than yesterday small steps and be kind to yourself, trees are mine and my sons go to when hes struggling and he watches you in awe, keep going your stronger than you think, we painted a resilience tree (a little tree growing out of and old stump in the middle of water and its truely the best paining we have done), keep going you are more than enough

No no no no no no no no no no noIt's been 7 months. I miss your paintings. I love trees Justin they are alive they love us back. Are you struggling with depression? I do too and it's so hard. We have to just take it one day at a time and don't be hard on yourself. I'm a musician and painter and haven't picked up my guitar or a paint brush in two years. You hang in there Justin. People who are talented usually fight with depression. Mini of my musician friends find real hard with depression so many have turned to drugs and alcohol but I get it I understand them. I'm bipolar and it's so hard.
Im probably talking rubbish but i use to watch your first you tubes and i saw your wonderful sucsess,what i wanted to say is with that sucsess you get people who want to bask in your sunshine.they promote you to promote themselves.they can suck you dry.they can fill your head with noise ,some times you need quite and stillness to create.i think you are easily hurt and i hope you can find a way to protect your self .just paint for you.those who care will be happy for you and you find your way at your speed , if you dont pace your self you will keep burning out.its not a race its a life style❤

Hey Justin hope you are out there with a more peaceful mind. I just discovered your videos. I started in oils and switched to acrylics about 6 years ago. I love tree too. I am a landscape artist myself. Sometimes when the head is to busy its good just to go back to the basics. I set small goals for each day then the next thing I know in a few days I am lost in my art again. 1 day at a time and a plan for tomorrow. Hope to see you back here. Thanks for sharing this video. This was the first time I have ever seen you paint and I was blown away. This video came up in my notifications, and I had no idea you had not put up a video in nearly a year. I am not professionally trained, but I love to paint. I don't know what distresses you in life, and I don't need to know, but I just want you to know that you make it so easy for someone like me to create something similar to your creations because your strokes are free and easy, and can be done by anyone that you teach. Not only are you a great artist, but I wonder if you realize that you are an excellent teacher. I am now subscribed and hope so much that you come back often. You do make a difference!

I bought an old piece of teal that had been a sailboat hatch cover. The piece is open-grain, and I want to paint an acrylic landscape, leaving a 1/2” border of bare wood. I taped off the border, but the tape does not (of course) fill in the grain. How do I prevent the gesso layer and the acrylic paints from seeping into the area that I want to stay bare?
