Subtitle blending indeed, I take it you already know its subtle? This is beautiful, the background colours start to become more apparent when you add the white! Its amazing.
Hi Anne - yes my little spell-check faux pas has been highlighted. I thought I could get away with it being a subtle play on the use of a subtitle to say subtle but I guess hands up human error - I'm a nitwit! Yes, those transparent colours just jump off the canvas. @@PaulRansonArt Hi Paul, I will do! I am just starting acrylic painting so any advice/tips I can gather will be very helpful. My main interest would be Night sky/outer space paintings. By the way, your jokes are as bad as mine, haha
Hi Todd - definitly have a few goes at this. My challenge was resisting playing with the paint too much. Its so easy to start mixing mud! The first warm up nebula is less prone to this as there's a linited palette and the colours are friendly and work well together. Another option would be to use a single base colour like blue for a monochrome effect. Happy Painting - Paul 😃😎
Hi Paul! Wow, this was super fun to watch! I love the new ways to use fan brushes! And I bought a floral fan and love it! It’s a wonderful way to blend small areas. I appreciate your tip on lightening! I did try recently.. it was hard to use a liner for the streaks. I have a few of those little flat ones. I love using them!! I look forward to trying this! It looks one that can cheer up most anyone ☺️ I love the colors.. I wonder what bright purple to use that is opaque. The dioxazine purple is transparent. Which would you suggest? I love purple and orange!! Thanks for sharing this with us. It looks so much fun! Have an out of this world week! 🌌🤗❤️🖌️🎨🤩
Hi Stephanie - I have a floral fan somewhere in my giant art cupboard! Eeeek I havent seen it for a long time so maybe the painting elves can find it! Bob didn't use flat brushes but I think they are so versatile and I love to use them. See how they flip flop for a highlight - great for a lightening bolt. Just put in the soft back light like I did for the first nebula and drop in the highlight over the top. I have a dioxazine purple - mind blowing colour for a nebula. It goes on transparent but hold onto your hat when it see a touch of white. Now check out a colour wheel and see where purple is in relation to orange. If the wheel was a clock with orange at 12.00 noon, purples and blues would be at 8-9 oclock. Across from them is turquoise and greens. Now check out my painting. Can you see those colours there? A happy accident .... maybe. Go have fun and see you on the next video 😃🥰😎
Excellent tutorial, thabk you for posting. I'm quite new to oil painting and I'm super pleased to have found this, will be trying it out over the weekend. I have a background in science (physics specifically) so this is right up my street. You gained a new subscriber
Hi Alex - welcome on board my little art channel - A Trip to the stars is the way to go. Now as a beginner, you're going to mix some mud ( over painting in oils ) It's almost a right of passage because if you don't you're not trying hard enough! ( just joking) So, paint slowly and make small changes as you go. Take your time and enjoy the process. happy painting - Paul 😃😎
Hi Laura - I hope you do because its a really nice technique and the end results are pretty amazing. I picked this image because it uad complimentary colour = orange and blue. Its always a great combo. But choose what ever colours you like Happy Painting - Paul 😃😍😎
I just have to respond to your wonderful video! Over a year ago I found some lovely pictures of these space things taken by the Webb telescope. I copied the photos I liked best. But I had no idea where to go from there. You gave me excellent guidance. I used to paint clouds using a fan brush. This is very similar to that. I had no idea about the linseed oil & now I know why my attempt at first try did not work out. I can’t thank you enough! Now I need to go find all those photos so I can use them as broad guides. I wonder what I might have done with them. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You are so welcome Linda. Experimenting with oil paints can produce the most wonderful effects. If you can't find the original photographs, use the links in the description to go to Pixabay. They have thousands of images to inspire you! Best wishes and happy painting - Paul 😃🥰😎
Amazing! If it helps, I’ve found that if I use the handle end of my paint brush, it makes perfect circles for nebulas or stars or suns etc. that may help get the round look you’re looking for
Hi Sylvia - yes, dig out those oh so brigh colours and have a play. I use a colour wheel to pick complimentary colours like orange and blue for best effect. But its your world so just have some fun slinging paint! Big art hug - Paul 😃😍😎
@PaulRansonArt OK I shall give my colour wheel a spin paul lol but I do love the ones you have chosen ,my particular favourite colour is phalo green I think it's time to have a play ooooohhhh this is fun! 🐈🐈⬛🐶
@@sylvia2553 Oh yes, phalo green / phalo blue combo is just so pretty. Like a tropical fish - Hey the Fish Nebula! Now you have your own personal galaxy. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
@PaulRansonArt I'm going to have a practice with colours on baking paper (one of your top tips) and I just happen to have a 12x24 black canvas to be let loose on once I've made my decision so here I come infinity and beyond lol 😆 🐈🐈⬛🐶🚀🛰🛸🌌🌠🌟🪐🌞😂🤣😅👨🚀
Loved it! It's super easy and beautiful! I do have a question, though. I use mainly acrylics, so how should I blend the linseed oi in with acrylics and not cancel colors?
Hi Sonjah - linseed oil is used exclusively with oil paints. You cannot use it with acrylics which are water-based paints. For acrylic paints try using a brand like Golden Open acrylics which dry slowly. Or use a retarder to slow the drying time and to allow blending. Ultimately oils will always work the best but please try. Best wishes Paul 😃😃😍😍😎😎
Looks amazing! No kidding, I just ordered some stuff online so I can try it myself 😌 Thank you algorithm for showing me this video🙏🏻 I was always afraid of painting bc I‘m colourblind but I‘ll give it my best shot🔫 But I have to admit, I don’t really understand, how the colours become visible when beeing painted on a black background
Thats brilliant. Bare in mind that I've had a few goes at painting so take it easy and have some fun. Every painting is another foot step on the journey. Happy painting - Paul 😃😎
Lovely paintings, and a lot of talent involved. Although I have looked up at the night sky for many years and never saw a drop of colour LOL. The astronomy photos that look like this are from radio telescopes and they add false colour. Still good though.
Hello, yes I don't see more than a hint of colour probably caused by atmospheric pollution at best. I'm not a scientist so have no other explanation as to why the radio telescopes have produced these amazing images. But they are beautiful and I marvel at the scale of the universe we can see. There's a lot to paint for sure! Best wishes - paul 😃😎
I can't believe I'm the first comment. Thank you so much for another great video!! I just subbed a little while ago so I haven't seen too much yet, but watching every day for the past few days... I was wondering, do you ever use the 2" brush?
Hi Benny - welcome to my llittle channel stuffed full of art! There's something like 170 tutorials to work your way through so enjoy. I have 2" brushes which I use for bigger canvases - 18" x 24". But these are a bit too big for ease of filming. So I usually stick to 16" x 20" canvases. These don't need a really big brush so a 1" is perfect. Bonus feature - they take a lot less cleaning too! Happy Painting - Paul 😃😎
Hi Nick - pleased you enjoyed this. I think you could try this with acrylics but you'll have to work faster and spray your paints as you go. The other part that makes this work better in oils is the use of transparent colours that stay wet and come to life when white is added. I know there are transparent acrylics which might work if you use retarders to slow the drying time. One brand is Golden Open Acrylics. Hope this helps - Paul 😃😃😎😎
Do you use a transparent gel and are you mixing it into the oil colours ? I can’t find any transparent oil in any colours.. what do you use ? :) Thanks
Hi - I used Bob Ross Liquid Clear for this painting - but Linseed oil applied very thinly also works. It just makes the paint thin enough to move and blend a little. These are transparent. Hope this helps - Paul 😃🥰
Yes you can! Use water mixable linseed oil in place of the Bob Ross Liquid Clear. I used linseed oil on the next nebula painting here - ruclips.net/video/AfdyBqOKA-I/видео.html - Happy Painting - Paul 😃
Linseed oil is a common product I haven't ever looked for an alternative. I'd be very careful using cooking oils as they might not be refined like artist's quality oils. They might cause your painting to dry poorly or ever to spoil if the oil goes stale. Try and buy artist quality linseed oil for a better result. Best wishes - paul 😃😃😎😎
A blindfold? I can already imagine the chaos! Just remember, if I end up mixing up the ingredients, it’s *definitely* part of the fun! Happy Painting - Paul 😃
I’m on disability so I can’t afford real paints and shit so I’ve been working digitally in procreate. Can’t get it to look right. I’ll just need to keep trying.
Hey Ron - I've not got an iPad to try Procreate but I have seen some amazing art created on them. Just like the real thing, it takes time and as you mentioned - practice! Stay safe and keep on creating - paul😄😎
@@PaulRansonArt Appreciate the encouragement. I will. Doesn’t mean I can’t live vicariously through damn good artists like yourself. Can’t wait to see what else you come up with.
Hey Ron. I use the apple barrel paints and folk art craft paints at Walmart and I love them! I have to watch my money too and these are between 58cents -1.47 a bottle and they last a really long time if you’re not doing huge paintings with them. They’re in the craft aisle! Folk art is a little better but it costs a little more. Hopefully you can find some in your area. Maybe just buy one or two a month to get yourself a little paint collection started. The dollar tree has canvas’ for $1 but you can paint on just about any old board or anything really.
Brilliant! and I even spotted your deliberate mistake. When you speak about keeping the blending subtle ... it says on the screen "subtitle" instead of subtle. Whoops. Can't win them all. How about one with a couple of planets in next time. I'm struggling to produce lifelike craters.
Hi John - you spotted my little gag (well thats my excuse!) Darn predictive text ( my backup excuse! ) Yes, I'll keep that in mind for the next odd if this word painting 😃😎

Thank you so much 😀 I'm sure I'll paint some more soon. Paul 😃😎
nice. Going to try soon.
Hey there - thanks for watching. Yes have a go. Its addictive so do a couple of canvases in black! Paul 😃😎
Awesome fun tutorial 😂😊
Glad you liked it!! Yes definitly a fun tutorial ... Hope you have a go painting it - Paul 😃😎
Amazing Paul, especially the large one. It's an image that could have been sent out by NASA or one seen from Haleys comet.
Hi Jack - yes its a realy eye popper and a great way to use up paint left on the palette. Happy painting - Paul 😃😎
Nice Demo Paul. Great techniques
Hi Ray - nice to hear from you. Yes, sometimes it's just fun to let the brushes play and to be a passenger for a change!😃😎
@@PaulRansonArt absolutely
Amazing ❤
Thank you! Cheers Mary 😃😍😎
Excellent tutorial, thabk you for posting.
I'm quite new to oil painting and I'm super pleased to have found this, will be trying it out over the weekend. I have a background in science (physics specifically) so this is right up my street.

@@PaulRansonArt thank you for the welcome. I'm certainly enjoying myself so far. More so for finding this channel.

Thank you Elena 😃😍😎
Bravo !! Very beautiful !!! Got to try this one as well! You made it look so easy !! 🎉❤
Hi Laura - I hope you do because its a really nice technique and the end results are pretty amazing. I picked this image because it uad complimentary colour = orange and blue. Its always a great combo. But choose what ever colours you like Happy Painting - Paul 😃😍😎
@PaulRansonArt I'm going to paint both today. Wish me luck. Hope they turn out as Beautiful as yours did.😍
@@laurarode8366 Well how did it go? I left it for a day to let you have a play. - Paul 🥰🥰🤗🤗
@@PaulRansonArt They turned out pretty good.😍
@@laurarode8366 if you have a Instagram account you can post your pictures there for me. I'd love to see them!
I'd love to see you paint a thunder storm trapped in the mountains/hills like they had in Turkey. Absolutely stunning light show it was...
Great suggestion! That sound like a real challenge and I'll add it to my list for a look in future- Paul 😃😎
Amazing! If it helps, I’ve found that if I use the handle end of my paint brush, it makes perfect circles for nebulas or stars or suns etc. that may help get the round look you’re looking for
Great tip Anita - I'm always looking for ways to creat a shape and this is a gem! Best wishes - Paul 😃
All of a sudden I hear 👂🏼 the guy with the Afro painting trees in the forest 😮
Thank you for sharing that! It’s always great to hear what resonates with you in my videos. I appreciate your support! Best wishes - Paul 😃
Fantastic paul and great for a beginner like myself, and i cant wait to get stuck in to those gorgeous yummy colours 🐈🐈⬛🐶🛰🚀🛸🪐🌌🌝

You are most welcome. Please enjoy my tutorials and I hope paint along with me too. हैप्पी पेंटिंग Paul 😃😎
Thank you
You're welcome - Paul 😎
No kidding, I just ordered some stuff online so I can try it myself 😌
Thank you algorithm for showing me this video🙏🏻
I was always afraid of painting bc I‘m colourblind but I‘ll give it my best shot🔫
But I have to admit, I don’t really understand, how the colours become visible when beeing painted on a black background
Yes I do
Thank you - Paul 😃😎
Great tutorial mate, I'll definitely try this, could this be done with all acrylics? Or does it require oil paints?
Hi Nick - pleased you enjoyed this. I think you could try this with acrylics but you'll have to work faster and spray your paints as you go. The other part that makes this work better in oils is the use of transparent colours that stay wet and come to life when white is added. I know there are transparent acrylics which might work if you use retarders to slow the drying time. One brand is Golden Open Acrylics. Hope this helps - Paul 😃😃😎😎
@PaulRansonArt thanks Paul, yeah I remember seeing some different mixing products that slow acrylics from drying as fast, that might be my best bet
Do you use a transparent gel and are you mixing it into the oil colours ? I can’t find any transparent oil in any colours.. what do you use ? :)
Thanks
Hi - I used Bob Ross Liquid Clear for this painting - but Linseed oil applied very thinly also works. It just makes the paint thin enough to move and blend a little. These are transparent. Hope this helps - Paul 😃🥰
Hi! I’ve just found your channel, and I have a question. Could I apply your process to water mixable oils, and what medium would be best to use? 😊
Yes you can! Use water mixable linseed oil in place of the Bob Ross Liquid Clear. I used linseed oil on the next nebula painting here - ruclips.net/video/AfdyBqOKA-I/видео.html - Happy Painting - Paul 😃
@@PaulRansonArt thank you! 😊
Can you diy a replacement for linseed oil, maybe some type of cooking oil, or anything found at a corner store so to say
Please do one with a blindfold. 😊
A blindfold? I can already imagine the chaos! Just remember, if I end up mixing up the ingredients, it’s *definitely* part of the fun! Happy Painting - Paul 😃
I'd like to paint this, but using silver flakes
Now that sounds amazing. It would really make a painting 'sparkle' - Happy Painting - Paul 😃😎
Can u make a video how on how to make galaxy
Hello - I plan to paint another sky scene soon - Happy Painting 😃😎
I’m on disability so I can’t afford real paints and shit so I’ve been working digitally in procreate. Can’t get it to look right. I’ll just need to keep trying.
Hey Ron - I've not got an iPad to try Procreate but I have seen some amazing art created on them. Just like the real thing, it takes time and as you mentioned - practice! Stay safe and keep on creating - paul😄😎
@@PaulRansonArt
Appreciate the encouragement.
If you have access to a dollar store, pick up a few paints and canvas. Givevyi a go.
@@georgannmartin-kumm100 we have what's called pound stores like Poundland where they have everything for ... £1 😃😃
Have you ever tried to get the same/similar effect on a white background?
No to be honest. As a night sky painting white is a challenge to cover up. But maybe give it a try. Happy Painting - Paul 😃😎
Another wonderful effort but it's SUBTLE, not SUBTITLE :)
Darn ... I missed it! Thanks you for the kind comments on the painting. Hope you get to try your own night sky painting.😃😃😎😎
Brilliant! and I even spotted your deliberate mistake.

Nasa has loads of CGI photos you can also use, i tried to find a real photo to copy but not one could i find, very weird.
I looked at some from Hubble space telescope and they were pretty amazing. But yes, they lend themselves to being CGI and AI generated images. Hope you can find one to paint - Paul 😃😎
If anyone can paint it, why would I bother? Most people know how to brush their teeth, too.
Thanks Brian 😃
Brian, even if almost everyone does it I do hope that you brush your teeth. Good oral hygiene statistically increases lifespan and quality of life. Maybe you’ll want to paint a night sky. 😁
