Last week I used this tutorial for my attempt at painting a mountain. The simplified nature of this composition made me more confident to give it a try. It turned out far better than I otherwise would have expected my first mountain to look. Thanks Ryan.
Amazing mountains, they really stand out in just black and white. Thanks for this tutorial, I agree it’s the best! I think I’d like to see the blue version.
what a fantastic painting. I'm partial to the deep blue for 'phase II' but honestly, the black and white is stunning just the way it is. I think I may try something like that soon. I still have an unfinished northern lights that I've been putting off finishing 🙃I think its been 2 weeks now since I last touched it. I don't know what happened, but almost daily I'll walk over, look at it and then just *sigh* and walk away.
Glad you enjoyed it! And it means a lot coming from your. I loved your last video too. I always watch your videos on my big tv with my fire stick. I am amazed at what you can paint with such little color.
@@WildCreates Aw, that is so nice Ryan, Thank you. I have slowed down a lot on watching videos. Seems there is just not much time this summer. So busy with other things. 🤗
Wow!! Great, detailed yet succinct tutorial! I was already headed to praise you in the comments, then the Depeche Mode shout out hit. One of my favorite bands but I don't consider myself emo. Lol Really fantastic tutorial and worth all your time and efforts, sir. Can't wait for the next Phase. Purple or red is my vote.
I would like to see purple please! Also i had a quick question for you. When painting over a mountain to make a pine tree sort of like how bob ross does in most of his paintings. How do i get my tree paint to stick to and not mix with the thick mountain paint? Should i scrape off some paint beforehand?
Its all about having the foresight to know where your trees will be going in your landscape. That way you can make that section of the painting have less paint or less layers. Hope that makes senses. If you have paint there or your layers are too thick then mist them out and rub slightly with a blue shop towel to expose the toothing of the canvas, then lightly blend... everything will stick now
Could this work on a white frame based in midnight black, gesso, or carbon black, which would match the black best? I don’t see which color black you used. Also could this be done with acrylic?
All can work... BUT if you decide to use any black paint... you will have to work in small sections in the corners ( so the black doesn't bleed into your whites too much). Yes, you can use acrylics to do this painting. You will need to use a little water, medium or thinner for the misting parts though. Hope that helps.
Wow, man, this is a fantastic tutorial video for this super awesome mountain painting! Thanks, Wild - you're one of (THE) very best!!! _Next tutorial, I wanna see the blues, ... no wait, the purples, ... no wait, the blues, ... ah hell I wanna see them both equally as much so you pick, haha!!_ Cheers, ☺👍 🎨🖼🏅
Honestly any black will work. The only difference I have ever noticed is some blacks shift towards the blues hue side while other shift towards the red hue side.
Tough question to answer because it depends on what liquid clear you are using or made yourself. Low grade liquid clears CAN yellow over time is the best answer I can give. I have a video coming out on a few weeks about liquid clear. I will talk about this in-depth... so hit that SUB button.
Far out Mr. Wild, I have to say this is the best mountain tutorial I have seen. You truly are an inspiration and I’m going to give this a go at some point this week. A couple of questions though, 1. I’m living in Australia and I can’t seem to find an already black primed canvas, does this mean I’ll need to do it myself; 2. Instead of using oil paints can I switch them out for acrylics…. As always Wild, keep up the great content, my vote goes to the purple and white mountain landscape 👍🏻🎨🎨
I'm sure he'll answer you but it's OK to use black gesso or be a bit cheaper like me and lay a black base coat of acrylic and, once dry, apply liquid clear over it. You can put oils on acrylics but NOT acrylics on top of oils. Happy painting!
Glad to hear that it is the best. 1) Just make your own with either black gesso or black acrylic paint 2) Yes you can use acrylic but you will have to use a little medium when it comes to misting the base of the mountain. 1 point for purple
So many Variables to that answer. I think I should do a video on that hha ha ha. For the painting in this video: It will be touch dry in like 4 weeks, set dry in like weeks, and ready to varnish in like 2 to 4 months ( due to thick snow I added). I hope that helps.
@WildCreates ok thank you my friend. Keep up the great videos! Also might be time for a live q&a maybe....and where can I submit a photo of one of my paintings for you to critique? God Bless and again ty
why dont we try a orange tone , like for the ones which are hit by rising sun !! , but loved this one too though !! will definitely try to paint this one first !! Thankyou !!
Thanks for the feedback I will add that to my notes. BUT to help you out. When misting... you will want to either remove or thin the color into a glaze... Which means use either water, Water mixable medium, or Water mixable thinner. And also rub excess off with a towel.
Hey Wild- I am doing a charity event in the Houston area, beginners of course, do you mind if I use this for my event, I will give you credit of course. Thanks- The Painting Biker
You 10,000% have my permission... I am happy to help in any way. All I ask is you got your reference from the most handsome painter on RUclips and that you send me a pic when you finish painting it. 🔥🔥🔥 If the event is where you paint something and auction it off to charity... then consider doing the painting with blue ( like I did in my newest video - linked below). Love your tutorials my friend! Question how long do you allow your Bob Ross wet on wet paintings dry before varnishing them?
So many Variables to that answer. I think I should do a video on that hha ha ha.

I know - I need to - just a tad hard at the moment with life... BUT coming soon.
@@WildCreates oh I fully understand bro
Must I use liquid clear? What does it do to help the painting?
You don't need it But it does help with blending and the depth effect
This is amazing tutorial just what I was looking for, Did you paint the canvas black or the black is dry already please?
Thank you very much I am glad I can help out.
I painted the canvas black with black gesso... then started building layers from there.
Thank you , my question was the black gesso dry please before you put the oil and layers?
Oh sorry ha ha ha. YES, let it be 100% dry before painting on top of it.
@@WildCreates thank you so much I really appreciate it👍🏻
Glad to help out - We will call it even by you Smashing the SUB BUTTON 🔥
I’m a beginner. Can this painting be done using acrylic paints.
It can but you need to do it in sections since the paint will dry fast

OH - I kinda like that Idea too... I might have to tests that one out. Thanks for the suggestion.
What is the purpose of the Liquid Clear Paint?
Liquid Clear allows your canvas and paints to stay wet and it allows you to easily blend colors.
Hey Wild
