I am happy I ran across your videos. I am 72 years old. And so it is nice to find some in my age range to watch
I am so happy to have you as well....we as older adults have a lot of of stories within us to share so get going girl!!!!!!!
Very Offtopic Gwen but I would love to look like you in the future. You’re full of joy and stunning!!! Thanks
Girl...you just made my day....thank you for such a lovely comment....
So happy the algorithm brought me to your channel. Thank you for the information, I'm so excited to implement this in my work.
Much love from Australia
I do this with invisible ink in my art and paintings. So when someone brings one home and happens to shine a uv light on it at some point, there is a little hidden message for them.😊😉
❤❤❤ yes!!! I got a multi pack of invisible pens online for really cheap. I use them too
omg that's such a cool ideaa
WOW 😍
The odd-looking pens are called folded ruling pens. The magazine, Bound & Lettered, had an article on making folded pens nibs from a soda can some years ago.
😮😮 I thought they were some pallet knives. That's great info 😊
Oh Gwen, this is fabulous! Thank you for this wonderful video. Much love and peace from London UK 🇬🇧 ❤🎉
Wooden chop sticks are fun to use too🎉
I like the bold one. Thank you for sharing. Greetz from the Netherlands
I think the second set of "pens" you showed are a form of a ruling pen. Great video, Gwen! Thank you for sharing!
I think so too!
Haha, now finally there's a use for my illegible handwriting!.
Same here 😂
Its code❤😅
The odd tools are kitskas. Used in painting wax onto Ukranian eggs.
Huh, that’s pretty cool, good to know thanks!
Those are not kitskas …. I did see calligraphy ink pens.
Something I find beautiful about techniques like this (I had called it “conscious condensate”) - is that there’s a personal skill to it that could never be taught. In willingly stripping away the attempt to communicate, you’re really getting under the technical hood that underlies the act of marking a page. It does wonders for tuning harmony and balance in compositions, as well as fine tuning pressure control and fluidity of strokes across mediums. Someone seeing me do this in public might assume it’s my first time picking up a brush, randomly testing it, without the skills to construct a meaning - but hundreds of hours back each of the swift squiggles. In a way, it’s representative of many works of modern art.. with the ‘I could do that’ mentality. Well sure, but have you tried? Thanks for sharing!
I love Thais. Thank you!❤
If you enter the world of calligraphy there are many interesting pens and tools to discover.
I made one of those pens out of a pop can and they called it a home-made cola pen! It works amazing too!
Love this.....thanks!
This is wonderful. Thank you! I actually started doing this a few years back and felt like a bit of a fraud. I had no idea it was a thing - with a cool name. It came quite naturally & is really enjoyable. Perhaps all those relentless cursive drills in Catholic grade-school are finally paying off. 😂
I like the Chinese writing brushes as well! The triangular tools look a bit like Miao batik making tools.
I’ve been just getting into abstract acrylic painting and was thinking of trying this! This was inspiring. Looking forward to your next video.
How wonderful - Thank you.
Another fun video, Gwen. Thanks!
Beyond inspiring…so grateful
This is like the scribble art I used to do, love it.
This is very cool. Glad I found this. I am a mixed media artist.🌻🌻
omgosh thanks, I can't believe I've never heard of this before! I just stubled on your channel and have now subscribed and am anxious for the next segment with this art form!
Robyn McClendon is the mistress of Asemic writing & collage! Look up her videos too.
This is great. Can be done with watercolor and pens. Graphite pencil and oil pastels. Glad this showed up on my feed. I am a new subscriber
In a GOOD way, reminds me of graffiti - inserted in a collage or an intuitie abstract this would be outstanding. Thank you Gwen!
Thank you for a great demo.
Great video Gwen. Thank you
I’ve added asemic writing onto a lot of my paintings but straight onto it. If I have something to say but want to keep it private it’s the perfect way to achieve that.
You are totally right about saying something private....I do the same...
Love it...
Hi! These pens are called "cola pens". They are made from aluminium cans.
You make beautiful marks, Gwen!
Perfect! I’ve been waiting for something like this ❤❤❤❤
Pine needles and feathers too!❤❤❤
Love this idea.....thanks!!!
The bold writing was the best
i want to try dipping willow charcoal in ink. i thought of that when you were using the stick
Another excellent and fun demo!
Wow! Love it!
Awesome, Gwen!!! Thank you this unleashed beautifying words!!!!! God bless, goodness gracious: you really pinned me in this!!! 🌟💫👌
Great, now I can use nibs which i have had for years
You inspired me to try asemic writing! 😊
I chose your 2 faves
Thanks Gwen!❤
3:16 I believe these are palette knives. Thank you for this video!!
i’ve done this and never knew the make, thank you!
This is great stuff!!
Love this❤
Very fun! I’d love to try this w kids!
Go girl....do some and let me know how you like it...
Parallel pens aka folded pens can be made from pop cans or beer cans hence the name "cola pen". Lots on internet about making your own folded pen and inspired calligraphers using them.
For me to watch I’m not an artist, but I’m curious about trying this now. I do paint rocks and I’m thinking why not try it against the white background I’d like you you’re fun. I’m glad the algorithm brought you to me.
Love your comment....let me know how it goes with putting it on rocks...great idea!!!
I’ve never heard anyone say W like that before but it’s unique.😊 Also maybe using Washie tape to hold the paper down would help it from moving around.
I wonder how silicon tools would work as they should glide across the paper 🤔 I recently got a bunch of silicon gel brushes for facial mud application. I must try them as they come in different end shapes that are solid, not actually brush-like & are different sizes, some with corners, others rounded. I love ASIC writing but the dragging of a nib on the page makes my teeth ache in a weird way lol.
You can make those folded pens out off soda cans and get even more unexpected marks. they chatter across the tooth of the paper.
V helpful, thanks ❤
This is how my husband writes daily. His signature is unreadable. So I guess he's an asemic writer and doesent even know it!🤣
Lol, me too
They must have a secret club! My husband is definitely a member!
I think most people have a signature you can’t read tbh lol. I’ve never seen a signature and known what it says unless someone told me. Same with my parents but their normal writing is clear and readable.
😂😂
Please make sure there is some way for us to find the next painting video in this series. I really want to see how you use the asemic writing in your work. Maybe add something to the description so we can find the next video. Thank you!
Hope you found the video....
Asemic writing can also be done on fabric and incorporated into quilts or other textile art. You will need to stabilize the fabric by ironing it onto freezer paper so it doesn't "crawl" when you apply pressure. You will probably also need to adjust the speed at which you write.
Terrific video Gwen. I've always been really intrigued with this Asemic writing, or at least my own hand writing, so you couldn't read it, but I found it quite hard to do. But writing as you've shown us, with some fun tools, almost anything is possible!
The tools are called Tjanting Tool Hot Wax Pens.
💙
Looks like really cool graffiti.
I'm 79 and I have been doing this sort of thing since my teens. I never knew it has a name.
This is the definition of a new master🥹🥹🥹👌
Hi Gwen. That is a Tjunting as explained by batik artist Annie Phillips’ art for living channel.
I’ve read so many different answers for them, I’ve gotten them with other sculpting tools, seems like there is a wide variety of use and names for them
@@colourfulsouls I think I was wrong, a Tjunting is used in batiking. It looks like a pipe and you pour hot oil into it. The ones Gwen had look different when I look closer.
I think they are called Tjanting - for drawing with wax in batik
Thanks! This is really interesting.
You can’t use those first few nibs the way you’re holding the pen; they are made to be used at a certain angle. But the folded nibs (ruling pens)are great with this style writing.
Ignorance is bliss when it comes to not know the right way to use a nib.,....I bet your calligraphy is fantastic. Loved your comment.
You might need to meet Bob Blast.....you might have a blast😂
Those weird tools you wanted to know name of are ‘chanting tools’ used for hot wax in batiking.
Maybe not when I watched you using them, hard to see them closely!
I don't know how to find where you tore it up and are using it.
Can you link the chosen pen?
Palette knives?
Those wooden objects look like mirettes, they are used to model plasticine or clay or other similar materials
Wrapping paper ideas
Who knew? My signature is asemic writing, lol.
i'm glad i found this.. i always look for asemic diagrams and writing in art.. and i should try it. i have nibs and ink and stuff. but mainly because you are inspiring and cool and the work hanging there is interesting. looking forward to the next one
What kind of paper are you using? Thanks.
I was using calligraphy practice paper that I got on amazon....you can use any type of paper but make sure it isn't too heavy as it will be hard to adhere to the painting.
You can use tools for clay.
i cannot find the name of the strange writting tool o amazon. ant suggestions?
Doctor handwriting.
The other two tools are called colla pens
Those look like palette knives/ small scrappers
do you find the word "formulaic" a negative judgment?
if not, i'm gonna go with that.
And all this time I thought I was just too stupid to read the words! Little did I know I wasn’t supposed to- Geez, Louise….
"A writing that you can not reed" Somehow it sounds funny, but very interesting indeed
Folded pens
❤😊😅 I guess it’s nice 👍🏻??
Nothing is nice to everyone but to those who love it and use it well are fantastic. Give it a try and see how you like it....you may be surprised...
I think this used to be known as Scribble…….LOL.
We would be best buddies
Those are folding pens
hiking = stick shoppping
I just find you and fall in love with you right away. See you soon❤
Hello gang, FYI, If you are Left Handed, like me, you can get LEFT HANDED NIBS!!!
Great idea for left handed people...
I think they're pallet knives with the calligraphy nibs
So, all one needs to do is scribble. Easy to do now that my hands have become arthritic. Actually, don't care for art that makes no sense to me. Many people do and that's ok. To each his own.
Yes, just scribble and add it to your art is you wish. I didn't use to like abstract art but now it has touched my heart and I love it.
so scribbles then ?!
You may call it scribbles but done in a form that is art....
"Asemic Art" is nonsense art, as devoid of message as the work of Jackson Pollock.
Well William.....I am so glad you shared your opinion. I happen to agree with you about Pollock (although not quite as strong as you feel) but Asemic writing within art is a form of art that is associated with fine art collage. It has its own importance in the art world. I don't believe it is nonsense art and devoid of message. Actually quite the opposite....it tells a story within the painting which is a form of communication with the viewer. Asemic writing also adds mystery which is one component of painting that is super important. What on earth makes you think Asemic writing within the painting is nonsense?
You had my attention right up to the point where you sneered at craft. As if a master potter's creations don't count as art. Oh sorry, "fine art". Aren't you fine art artists special? 🙄
Kathleen.....I consider pottery fine art because it is. Sorry I gave the wrong impression on fine art vs craft. I was referring to craft as putting images on coffee mugs, towels, etc.......I should have been more clear and I will next time. Thanks for pointing that out as I love pottery and wish I could do it as it takes a ton of skill to be a potter.
@@GwenFoxArtistSorry I came on so strong. I work in stained glass and am often overly sensitive on the craft v fine art topic.
What kind of “fine artist” are you? This is ridiculous
What makes Asemic writing ridiculous when including it in fine art? Let me know please....
Evidently this is not for you. There are many ways to get into a painting. I'm an artist with years of training and dedication. I am not interested really in painting "abstracts" myself but it's always interesting to see how others approach it. I think I'll stop there.
@@ntakovacj3644 I appreciate your reply. I too have years of training and dedication and I am happy you enjoyed watching another way to add to the creative process......probably good that you stopped there.....hugs
gwen
Do people really think “How can I make my painting stand out? How can it be filled with mystery?” Weird thing to think.
I don't think it's weird at all.Sometimes, I'm totally amazed what goes thru my head as I'm creating in the studio.
How do you not think that?
Is that comment really necessary
You would have to be an artist to understand that
I think that way all the time.
