BRAVO dear Jose! Too very, very bad that it seemed like you were taking a back seat to two other tenors that were very good, but so we you! I love you voice, and could listen to you al day long! Thanks YOU TUBE!
How can one have everything at the same time like Carreras, the gorgeous instrument, exceptional musicality, interpretation...without a doubt (and with this version) Carreras can compete with the greatest. Now I understand why Karajan said Carreras' version of "Ingiammisco" was insuperable, not even by Caruso. Bravo Carreras! You are truly a gem!
And he's a good actor, looks the part of a romantic hero, knows how to enchant an audience through his performance as a whole, not just with a magnificent voice.
I've seen at least 20 "Nemorinos" but I still stick to this Furtiva Lagrima, moves me to tears although this is a comic opera, but this aria is so sweet and tender, and the expression of his face is priceless: Bravo mio caro Maestro Carreras forever.
Am amazing performer, glorious voice, tender and believable interpretation... I am no opera expert but he is absolutely stunning here, words cannot describe the emotion that he manages to convey. Bravo!
Thank you, RossyT80. I was gone for a while so couldn't respond to your message. No matter how many times I hear this, my heart just simply melts. Jose just doesn't sing, he tells the story of the aria. Wow. He is SPECIAL.
I was watching Antonia Pappano director of music at the Royal Opera house in a program call classical voices and he describes this as voice in a million I quite agree
Hahah grazie!
Grazie a te! Un saluto!
You all say 'what a pity he had leukeamia' but the sadness is for him and his family - we had the most incredible voice before his illness and and still one of the best afterwards....stop moaning and just enjoy the beauty that one human being can impart to others.
His vocal decline started before his battle with cancer. The strain in his voice was apparent as early as the mid-1980s and was noted by opera reviewers at the time. Of course, it became worse over time, and frankly I could no longer listen to him without wincing.
Ciao!
You have no idea what you are talking about. One sings a part with the voice they were given, not with someone else's. BTW, you don't know what kind of voice Donizetti imagined for this role. Nemorino is a lyrico-spinto role.
@@katef6154 His voice was in decline well before his battle with cancer. As early as 1985, his upper register had become strained. He sang inappropriate roles for his voice, and he took on way too many engagements.
@@piustwelfth I would say that the schedule he had was probably the most detrimental thing besides the cancer. The problem for Carreras was there was no toiling for recognition for ten - fifteen years years in his 20 and early 30s as there are for many .A prime example of that is Pavarotti who took a long time to be recognized as a great it was 1973 when he sang the famous 9high cs that helped him crack America which made him 38years old. Carreras from his mid 20s was hugely in demand everywhere. I often wonder if fate had a hand in things - his cancer battle meant that his stamina post cancer was decreased so if had not sung in Tosca Carmen Don Carlo Turandot Aida Andre Chenier when he did and maybe he never would have
My favourite tenor; one of my favourite songs. Heaven!
Bravo Josep!

His voice was beautiful here. One of his best roles.
This is just perfection.............
thank you Mr Carreras
I can't get enough of this, such a gem...
There was no more beautiful voice than his!

Jedním slovem PERFEKTNÍ!!! Úžasný Carreras!
La mejor interpretación de una furtiva lagrima.
Maravilha de musica e interpretação hoje 29.06.2023.....

Bellísima voz, imponente fraseo, declamación apasionada. Bravo!!
No! Boo!
Cuando lo escucho, recordando a don Caruso.
Che meraviglia! Grande Carreras!

He is awesome. NO DOUBT.
Maravilloso.
By far, the best Nemorino I've heard and seen. And have seen a lot!
If this is not perfection I don't want to know what perfection is.
It is a trash! You right, you are deaf, like all fanband of cracked-pafetic singers.

The tech problems on this tape don't allow Carreras to shine as brightly as he usually does. After all, we need the orchestra too.
We love you
Magical
exquisita
Su interpretación única
BRAVO!!! Che belissimo!
When was this - around 70s/early 80s (of course before Jose suffered leukemia), right?
Carreras el mejor para mi al menos
i know, me too, it's too bad...
what is also too bad is that he is only 61 yet he has practically totally retired from opera... too soon :-(

His illness didn't ruin his voice at all. I've seen several operas sung after his recovery and they are outstanding !

Carreras is the male equivalent of Callas. A great voice in his youth that was largely gone before he turned 40.
Cancer did not help
