What makes him so unique in his singing is he uses 'messa di voce". It is a difficult technique and very few singers use it. He sings from his heart and soul like very few others. Bravo Rolando
Placido Domingo manage also to sing messa voce, not Pavarotti though.
Yes he is using that technique. Only one more does it, Placido Domingo. Pavarotti couldn't. His voice was only strong.

Too much tension, constructed sound. Which shows in his face. I did like the diminuendo effort, but his voice gets a bit lost there, frankly. But not the worst these days on big stage - which is, sadly, not to say much.
Of the universally famous, Pavarotti did this very well. You hear singing like he is speaking, no tension, sounds natural and effortless. And never hollow, like in this clip.
Some will say the golden standard is the 1944 Di Stefano recording. But surely there’s more than one great performance of Una Furtiva. This is just not one of them.

I love this version, the use of dynamics is just perfect. Of course Villazón's voice isn't excellent, but i can only imagine a recording of Di Stefano with the same dynamics. I could die after hearing that.

Soy una verdadera ignorante sobre la opera (pero la disfruto enormemente desde hace realmente poco tiempo) y no sabia que en una presentación se pudiera hacer un bis. Y me tocó verlo precisamente en la representación de Villazon como Nemorino (vi la ópera completa) Fue muy emotivo para mi. ¡Felicidades Rolando! Me encantó su actuación en toda la obra.

i'm a musician, a student, and for a long time i'm in a depressive state, i lost my sparkle, practice seems a chore, i stopped enjoying what i do and i was so afraid i fell out of love with the music. it's been 2 or 3 years since i had a courage to sit through a
full recording of a symphony alone and try to enjoy it, moreover an opera. today was a hard day, so i wanted to watch smth fun. i had this recording of l'elisir on my laptop for months, just in case, and idk why but i decided to watch it today, since it's a comedy. i didn't even remember this aria is in this piece. i've enjoyed the action and how incredibly well netrebko and villazon managed to portray their characters (i've also made a lot of memes of dulcamara's face lmao that dude), but it was still hard for me to listen. and then this aria comes on, and it strikes me, oh, i know this tune! but i didn't keep attention. i needed to replay the fragment.
and then i did it again. and again. and more. and then i went on youtube to find a link to show my friends. the way he played with his voice colour, the smallest nuances, the cadenza, and the sincerity of his whole being got me bawling my eyes out. i was so scared i won't ever be able to feel like this, to be moved by music like this, but this performance made me feel again. like, that softest shift at 2:25 made me think, holy shit, this is worth all the pain you go through to be able to belong in the world of music. i am just thankful this exists.

It's life, sometimes just like in opera music, with its ups and downs. One of my favorite opera pieces but unlike you I don't have classical music education, but I learned to appreciate what others try to teach in past.
Did you know tha Villazon and Netrebko were in a relationship in the past. I believe that's why his emotion towards her is so truthful. In the last embrace at the end of the opera,he doesn't want to stop hugging her. Like someone deeply in love. It makes me melancholic about my own longing for love.

Amazing voice and technique. Great intonation too. I love the way he sings out the phrases, doesn't drop the endings prematurely. It adds such a finished feel and is just plain beautiful. Such ease of expression. Never knew this was such a master. So sad he is no longer out there filling the tenor void. This is a truly masterful artist.

@@marinacastro.5475 Naaa no comparto, hay de gustos a gustos. Para esta Aria Villazon no tiene igual, incluso Lanza me gusta mas que Pavarotti en esta aria ... son voces mas calidas, con mas interpretacion y profundidad romantica.

Porque dicen que la perfección no existe, pero esto debe ser de lo más cerca que uno puede estar, suena clásico y moderno con una interpretación que hipnotiza. Por lo que sea, su mirada te traspasa. Merece el bis y el tris.
Pas la plus parfaite des interprétations mais paradoxalement la meilleure, cela va au delà du chant. Pas un grand fan de villazon ou de Nebretko mais cet enregistrement est le meilleur de tous les temps de l‘Elisir. Qu’est ce que je ne donnerais pas pour y avoir assisté. Une telle qualité en bel canto relève du rêve de nos jours.

God!! I love this tenor!! But, I remember an interview with him quite a few years ago. He was talking about the stress of his career. A festival in Switzerland, practicing, and singing a full performance of a opera, and then into the recording studio, all in a period of ten days. He needed better management. The voice is a fragile thing, and he is a man, not a machine. He brought me back to Opera, after a long absence. I thank him, his voice has brought me so much joy, and I wish him the best.

Pięknie smakuje ten napój miłosny (Gaetano Donizettiego). Myślę, że głos Rolanda Villazona można śmiało porównywać z głosem tenora wszechczasów wielkiego Luciana Pavarottiego. Roland jest przy tym niezwykle sympatyczny, (jak Luciano), ale ma też warunki fizyczne predestynujące go do śpiewania wielkich ról amantów operowych. I chyba tylko on potrafi tak prawdziwie się cieszyć z aplauzu publiczności. W duecie z Anną Netrebko stanowią boską parę pięknych ludzi i wielkich artystów
