Thank so much for this tutorial. I made one for my great nephew this weekend and it’s super cute. I used my Cricut Maker to cut out the name and then quilted with my embroidery machine. I need to find more babies to make quilts for…it was so much fun to make.
Excellent tutorial!! I have always wanted to know about creating large letters for a baby quilt, & you generously shared all the details. Best baby quilt video I’ve come across for its simplicity & for the name personalization! Kudos & Thank you-just subscribed🥰❤
@judyyelton5859 yeah you should try it, i have the fabric cutting blade, but i have cut denim with the auto blade, just run it multiple time to get a clean cut
@ I’ve just been doing it this way for years and years. I hate to try to learn a new way when this works so well for me 😆. I’m glad you found an easier way!
Thank you for sharing..very good 😊..one doubt does the edge of the Font fabric Riley fray ?? As it's not overlock stiched only straight stitch done right so asking
@@MyRitu007 hey!! Great question- it does! But I love this aspect of it. You can certainly use a different stitch and keep that from happening, I love the organic look of the fabric fraying after washing. This is just a ‘raw edge applique’ method! ❤️

How do you secure the name to the cloth before stitching it to avoid moving? Will just ironing do it? I wasn’t sure, and wanted to check. Great tutorial thank you so much!

Hey! Excellent question! Yes. Quilting gloves help to grip the fabric so that it doesn't slip around so much while trying to quilt. While they're not 100% necessary...they kind of are😂. It just makes things so much easier! I love this brand: amzn.to/3Z3bS9K. Thank you for watching!

@@ashleypilarski334with the raw-edge appliqué, it does fray a little. I think that’s one of my favorite things though! It gives it a unique and loved look❤️
I should have added this info into the video! Sorry! So this is a raw edge appliqué like you mentioned, and the fabric will slightly fray to your stitch line. I love it though! It’s so unique. It doesn’t look messy at all. Even after years and years of washing it still looks awesome. I’ve made maybe over 100 of these over the years? So cute!
Hi . are you using white cotton or polyester fabric? I've been at a cross when selecting fabric to sew the applique on 🤔! I'm thinking should it be a heavier fabric since cotton is so thin? for blankets and pillows? idk. What's you think? thank you
Hey! Great question! I personally always use quilting cotton. With that said though, I have used polyester and even flannel. The heat n bond actually makes it a little thicker but honestly, you can use whatever fabric that you want! The only guideline I can share is just make sure you can iron it haha. But even canvas/flannel fabrics are thicker and work. Canvas make work good for pillows since it doesn't necessarily have to be as soft as on a blanket. I hope this helps! -Ashley

A much faster way is to draw the letters directly on freezer paper and iron it to the fabric. Then cut it out.

I think the edges can also be zigzagged stitch so it prevents fray
