    I totally agree with you on all the points. I'm thinking of two things that I don't think you mentioned :
    - one that I like : the gyrodata stab in post (hope it will be available directly in Davinci Resolve soon). Even if it is cumbersome to use, it's a fantastic tool allowing me to use the FX6 handheld.
    - one I really don't like : the thumbnail menu... It's from last century and I hope it will be update (doubt it)

    This is super helpful to hear about your real use experience of the FX6. I like everything about this camera except that there is no view finder. For me, looking through a view finder gives me the most confidence that I have focus. It's a deal breaker for me not to have one. The FS5 had one. Why not this one? C'mon Sony!

    • @YourStoryStudios
      @YourStoryStudios  2 года назад +1

      Fair enough. You can get EVF solutions to help you out. I never use EVF for video cameras. The EVA1 which I used to own didn’t have one either, so not a deal breaker for me 👍

    Just found your channel and also subscribed . My production company is going to get a couple Sony fx6’s. We have 1 , a7siii, 4, Nikon dslrs, 1, Sony a6400 and a Panasonic gh4 w/a metabones adapter for the ff lenses. We like the apsc and ff look . Also these cameras have great low light abilities. We shoot almost exclusively live music. Sometimes ( many) times we cannot control the lighting so we need cameras that can handle the high isos .
    We are slowly moving towards the Sony’s with this 4K sensor. We do love the Nikon image and would love for Nikon to get into the video game better. At the moment I’ve been adapting old Nikkor lenses from the 1960s and 70s some 1980s to the Sony and Nikon dslrs.
    We need fast setup and tear down and a solid 10bit 4K image . This Sony system I think is the best at the moment for us . Oh and the autofocus is a big bonus. Then the variable NDs will be so nice .
    Peace

      Thanks for sharing your story Troy! Hopefully you can get your hands on the FX6 where you live and see how they perform. The FX3 might be another good option if you’re looking for something a little cheaper. You could get multiple bodies for live music, depending on your budget 👍

    I was almost going to pull the pin on the Canon c70 because of the ergonomics but there is just one thing that for now has made me stay Canon ...............................................................................
    ................................ the image, the colors, the look.
    Yeah I'm a Canon nurd and also invested in their camcorder the xf605 so its hard jumping ship, but in all honesty I'm still yet to see an image from the FX6 that doesn't look Sony, if you know what I mean.
    I sure do like the idea of gradual ND, SDI and zoom control in the right hand like a camcorder.
    Oh I just should jump and get over it and go fx6 but Canon will definitely come out with a similar camera with all the cool features, or will they?
    Nice review. Thanks

    • @YourStoryStudios
      @YourStoryStudios  Год назад

      I understand what you mean about Canon colours and look. When I was deciding between the FX6 and C70 I had a very hard time deciding. I ended up going with the FX6 because of the features and useability. I'm really happy with the look I can get from the FX6 and the Sony GM lenses. There are plenty of colour grading options that will help you get a pleasing look. I like using Phantom LUTs, CineMatch (paid plugin) and Gamut have a great SLog3 conversion LUT as well.

    Hi, there. A very nice review! thanks and 2 questions here: 1.as I see, you have attached Atomos on the top handle. Which model and connection cable do you have? Can you give me their links, please? Thank you very much in advance! 2. What about the possibility to use Lavalier microphones system (such as Rode Wireless Go II) switching with XLR adapter? Will it work properly?

      I use the Atomos Shinobi SDI. The cable is the Shape Skinny 90-degree bnc cable 24 inches: www.shapewlb.com/shape-skinny-90-degree-bnc-cable-24-inches-blue/

    I have an idea about how to fix the lack of audio inputs on the FX6 sans the handle. I've got this idea in my mind for weeks now but haven't seen anyone do it on youtube. Mount Tilda's top plates for the FX6 and mount a Zoom H1N or other similar recorder. With the top plates you can still mount any handle you want in the middle and have the H1N on the left or right side. The H1N is very slim and small and should fit.
    You can clap and sync the audio in post or perhaps align it with the scratch audio from the "tiny holes" they call mics on the FX6. This is also one way to get more than the 2 channels while using the XLR top handle. What do you think?
    Imagine attaching one of those small recorders with 32 bit float for run and gun docu work. Would be great.

    • @YourStoryStudios
      @YourStoryStudios  Год назад

      Yes, that is an option, but an extra step to sync up in post. For some people that extra step isn't a big problem for their workflow, but for others it would be a real pain! Thanks for watching and commenting!

    I like the idea of moving the LCD all the way back. What's this external monitor? And - why do you keep the LCD if you have the external monitor? (for touch to focus?)

    • @YourStoryStudios
      @YourStoryStudios  2 года назад +1

      Monitor is the Atomos Shinobi SDI 5 inch which has been discontinued. I keep the lcd just in case I need features I can’t use from my monitor. The FX6 is getting a firmware upgrade by the end of the month and it will now have touch tracking auto focus, so I’ll need to use the lcd screen for that. It’s also handy to have a clean feed on my Shinobi and then all the camera settings showing on the lcd. Having the clean feed means I can see the full image without any clutter over it 👍 thanks for watching!

    As for the lack of an EVF on the FX6, I wonder if one can use a 3rd party EVF and get the video feed from the camera's HDMI out? If yes I'm sure there'll be a way to mount it using cage accessories for the camera such as Tilda's advanced cage. I'm kinda working this out in my head before I buy an FX6 later this year. LOL.

    • @YourStoryStudios
      @YourStoryStudios  Год назад

      Yes there are EVF options from Portkeys and other brands. They are workarounds and could be a good solution for you if you need an EVF. I don't particularly need one for the style of shooting I do. I prefer having a 5"/7" daylight viewable screen mounted to the camera.

  • @adamhannis

    In terms of the big battery you use to power the camera and D-tap out to power the monitor, what do you recommend to make sure it's safe? I bought some big batteries to do the same but I've read online that powering the monitor and camera from the same source can fry the camera/monitor!

      For me having the FX6 makes more business sense. I make money from my camera equipment, and turning up to a shoot with a video camera that looks like a video camera is important for paying clients. FX6 also has many features that I mentioned in this video that the FX3 simply doesn't have. Waveform, shutter angle, SDI, internal variable ND, a side handle you can adjust, and that's just off the top of my head :) The only thing the FX3 has that the FX6 doesn't have is IBIS, but I have an a7S III for that... or I use lenses with OSS, a tripod, cinesaddle or gimbal!
