Nice tutorial. I wanted to see if it was worth connecting this for my mother's home and how it would connect with Google Home?
Personally, for devices like this (high risk and easily hacked) I would either have a guest network or VPN to keep these IOTs off your main network.
Brightness you would think the refrigerator would have an electric eye to adjust to ambient brightness.

LG ThinQ apps are supposed to work with google home. This is not our use case. We don't even use the "download custom program" option. We use the connectivity for getting notifications (e.g. washer is done) or alerts. I do have the devices on a separate wifi isolated on a separate VLAN id.

Yeah, I try different things sometimes. May have missed the mark on this recording.

As soon as it requested my gps location before I could continue I just uninstalled the app. I looked it up and LG says gps location it's required for the weather and to search for nearby wifi networks which makes no sense at all. How about just putting in my zip LG

On android, I open settings/apps on the phone, select LG app/permissions, and remove location. Lots of apps ask for install time permissions that are head scratchers. I usually remove the permission after app is installed.

@@DrBDIY that's not a bad idea. Next time I'm at the store I'll install it and let it have that as the location lol.

I'm on the app. Is my appliance (refrigerator) considered registered? I scanned the paperwork my refrigerator came with but it wouldn't work for registration.

Create an account at LG. You can register your appliances on the web site. Lauch the app and login with your account information. You can also register the appliance there.

I wanted to add my washing machine, the QR code was not an option so I followed the prompts but have no idea what password they want because nothing worked...so, this video was useless and frustrating.....

You need provide the app your wifi router SSID and password. The router SSID and password are used by all of your devices to the internet. The SSID and password are part of your router setup that allows wifi connections. Hope this helps.

Way too much info up front. Glad that you know all of this and can draw a nice picture but the reality is… who cares. Tell me how to connect the devices to the app.

Good point. Someone without home network skills requested the information.

You can also choose not to use WiFi.
