Gotta love that guy who explained 32-bit float! That was awesome!!!
sorry to say, but actually, he's wrong:
1. you CAN clip 32bit audio, it's just much more unlikely --> same as with shooting RAW video, where you still can blow out the highlights
2. 32bit is not about the high and low FREQUENCIES (which make up the pitch of the audio signal), but it's about the AMPLITUDES (which make the volume of the audio signal)
Perfect
Thank you for this video! I've been looking at mics for a while to improve the audio in my videos. This is exactly what I've been looking for!
The handheld option really is a clever addition...it basicallly gives a couple of form factors all in the one solution...and means on a camera rig one can quite possibly bypass the need for an external add on recorder in many cases. Thanks for great review!
You’re always so entertaining! Cheers! Thanks for another informative video
Great job on the video David! Thanks for making it.
This helped a lot, thank youu! Good quality content
Great video. I had no idea about any of this, but ended up with one of these and you did a great job explaining it!
Thanks for watching and so stoked you picked one up! Such solid audio!
How did I not know these existed, I’ve been researching the go 2s for months and was just about to buy them, these are so much better
I got these and the auto gain assist is what made me fall inlove the fact I connect it to any camera and not have to worry about the transmitter or receiver tunning or gain fixing! If I’m too low the audio picks it up for me and if I speak too loud it won’t clip
Would you recommend auto mode or dynamic? Which one are you using more?
Awesome video, very informative, great work 10/10 Bud !
That was an amazing interaction and explanation! Makes me want to run out and buy one right now!
So crazy that guy was there with a Rode Pro on top of his camera!
Not related to the video but…
DAVID! You are an awesome human. Just received my order and was not expecting the extras. Thank you! ❤️. - John F, Virginia.
Thanks for the video!
Had to comment to say loved the video and it super helped make what is an easy decision 😊
Thanks to the guy who explained about the 32bit float. Love the review, love the potential of rode wireless pro and yeah don't leave your camera alone. Love from Malaysia.
Right?! How awesome was that guy?!
I was late to the game with the DJI wireless. I’m satisfied with that mic, but now you brought out that FOMO in me 😂
Hahhaaa! That dang 32 bit float is just so damn good🙌
Can I ask you, how to connect this receiver with my iPhone
Great video, brother thank you 👊🏼
Ding it! Now i want this system! No idea how to edit the audio but I need it! Love the david reporter!
Hi thank you for awesome review What if we connect this using type c to iPhone Can we use 32 bit float
Thank you very much for the review! May I ask if you have any suggestion if I want to shoot with one transmitter and two receivers plugged to two cameras shooting at the same time?
Great job! Can't believe you didn't mention Timecode!!! That's a HUGE advantage as well.
Ok ok you may have just convinced me to upgrade from my Rode Wireless Go, Go2 AND DJI Mic systems. Damn! Love your videos Dave, been a long time viewer - now watching from Shanghai (for now) - keep it up bro!
10:38 Where do you get the charging case with the accessory case? Does the accessory case come with the Lavaliers inside?
This video has changed my mind. Great explanation.
Great video as always! I wonder if one could leverage these mics for live streaming or even, dare I say, Zoom meetings? The mics sound amazing and the dual purpose would go much further to justifying their purchase. Using them during the week for work and on the weekends for family fun would be a great value.
of course you can they work great for everything! Easy hook up to phone or pc very versatile
Love your video and how you explain things. Never change…. One question please (and sorry if it’s a stupid question as I’m new to wireless mics). I do golf course reviews and inevitably there are 4 people in our group that do the review the same time. I would need to capture all their comments as we are playing etc. I note the kit comes as a two mic system. My question is, has the system got capability to have 4 mics running at a time or does this mess up the capture….. If it can have additional mics over 2 how can do I do this?
Hi David, thanks for this insightful review! My scenario is Livestreaming events like weddings. Could one of these mics be used to catch decent room audio in a worst case scenario if I needed to? Also, is there any remote control/app where you can turn off/on the input to the receiver for either mic?
Dammit! I had the Rode Wireless Go, then the Go II. Then I switched to the DJI Mic. Then I bought a second set for 4-person interviews. Now I need to switch back to Rode. Argh. Great review, David! Bastard.
Hahhaaaa! I've been on the same path as you Peter!
David, great video. I have one question. I've heard other users mention that you need to use timecode in order to download the files. If you're not using timecode which program are you using? Thanks in advanced
But the rode cannot connect directly to phone right? Unlike dji ?
Timecode is useful when you are trying to locate clips. You could note the time of day and find it on the video easier.
Really really useful for multiple camera setups.
How long does it take to charge the transmitters and receiver in the charging case? And is the charging rate different if the charging case is plugged in?
How water resistant is it? You might have said and I missed it. Wondering if this might work for making fishing videos.
Hey David, quick question for you, how many cameras do you use to vlog? Including GoPro and DJI and Sony and I guess your phone too?
I have a question: Can I use the wirless Pro with my iPhone 15 pro. Are in the box the right cables?
Can i connect it with gopro12? With adapter.can i process 32bit with power director app, mobile?? Tyyyy, nice vid!!
do you enable hi pass filter during outside recording?
Thank you
I don't, but only because I'm going into post anyways and in post I can dial in a high pass filter a bit more precise
David... if hypothetically you were working with 2 sets of these Pros, how might you get the timecodes of the two RX units to sync? since they can't receive, I guess there isn't a way to do it. I'm trying to run 2x wirelesspro and 3x gopro12 together. In theory they all can 'do' timecode, but I can't for the life of my bend my mind around getting them all on the same clock.
any tips on how you would configure that setup?
Hi, I have a question. If I have my receiver connected to my camera, can I record 32 bit flow in my transmitter at the same time it’s recording 24 bit flow in camera?
Great Video
Thank you so much sir.
This is a
very unique video
.I have a query to you abour Rode wireless pro.
I am told that at times this sort of mics gets signal interferences.
If so,can it be used as hands free mic for a pastor to address the church ?
Is the interference a real issue ?
Any way to solve the interference?
Thank you .
I love my GO ii but I get a lot of interference when using it with my Sennheiser MKE2s. The closer the microphone is to the transmitter, the louder the buzzing (also on the internal recording). As soon as I turn off the receiver, the buzzing is gone. So I can record internally fine, I just have to hope everything works because I won't be able to monitor it lol.
When I'm using Smartlav+ Mics with the SC-4(?) Adapter, there is no buzzing.
So my question is: Have you tried either system (GO ii and Pro) with various lavalier microphones?
If the Pro got rid of that buzzing issue, it would be a reason for me to upgrade.
What do you use for post-edits?
Can you please try to connect with bluetooth to Gopro hero 12? i just want to know if it's fit with each other while riding Motorcycle?
Best damn review for a mic, I hope they send you some gear for this.
Ok I bought them. I need a way to reduce outside noise live. What’s the best way to do that?
Don’t know what you did before RUclips. But, could definitely see you being a news reporter out interviewing people on the street. You seem very comfortable behind a mic. Nice job on the video as well. The pier was a cool location to shoot from. 👍👍👍
Hell yeah Rob! Haha I picked up a tentacle track e over a year ago mainly for this reason. Works great and I probably won't jump to upgrade too soon, but would enthusiastically embrace these style of mics now. Seems to be another RODE hit!
Right?! How crazy that a guy was just walking by that HAD ONE ON HIS CAMERA?! Also, super solid explanation
@@DavidManningvlog Indeed! I also personally love the "It's like shooting in RAW for photos, but with your audio" variants. Helps those who don't know too much about audio like me 😅
Can the Rode Wireless Me fit on the mic handle?
Please make a video with this Rode Pro setup on the Insta 360 X3. Thanks.
Sounds like a killer idea!
Great video. Is there a way to dim or turn off the light on the transmitters so it doesn't stand out so much? It looks like a great system, but the logo on it and the light would be more distracting than the DJI. Thanks!
You can turn off the lights
Very nice. Very entertaining. (But you know there's a 'however' coming, right?) However, yeah, twice rechargeable but just saying it can record many, many hours side-steps the fact that the system doesn't have replaceable batteries and so you have no choice but to wait for the units to recharge. Production has to stop until recharging is complete. How long does that take? No mention I can find on the Rode site. For me, I also have the Wireless Go II set with two transmitters. I think that if I faced a full day, I would have my Go II transmitters ready to swap out with the PRO transmitters so that production doesn't have to stop for a too-long recharging wait. (The Go II has two modes of recording: Compressed and Uncompressed. You get loop recording in the Uncompressed mode, but Uncompressed mode is not available on the Wireless Pro, so, if you use a mix Pro and Go II transmitters (use the same mic's!), I would set the Go II to use Compressed to ensure a close sound match to the Pro system). Now, I really like the Pro system but I have one serious demerit for it: The transmitters have a reflective front! I watched a Rode video and the transmitter on the Rode lady kept flashing studio lights into the camera as the lady shifted and moved. This is how non-professionals shoot a video. I wonder who, at Rode, said it was OK to let their transmitter on their spokesperson flash studio lights into the camera.
Hi! Can you use just the transmitter to record the audio without using the receiver?
Sure can! That’s actually how I usually record so that my main camera is picking up environmental noise and the transmitter is picking up my clean audio track. Then I can sync the two and mix the two in post👍
Does Rode Wireless Pro have lock feature at all to avoid accidentally turn off the recording?
I already bought this but after watching David, I think I’m gonna buy another one 😂
When do they release?
I have a question. I like the DJI because they act sort of like a lavalier and have the "cat" for the mic and from what I have heard, great noise suppression. For the content I want to do, it's POV so I have to use both my hands and can't hold on to a mic like you and if I remove it, I would need it to be able to not catch wind noise. How is the Rode on this regard? Thanks a lot and awesome high quality video. In my dreams I will someday do something of this level of quality my videos are very basic.
Both DJI and Rode are great at just clipping onto you, but the Rode also comes with a lav mic which is even easier to clip onto you. With the DJI you need to buy a lav separately. Both sweet systems so it's a tough call!
I am still using the rode wireless Gen 1s. I'm seriously considering these. Also, I have been more and more weary of going out and shooting because I would hate for someone to steal my gear.
Is there a way to lock the transmitter buttons so that the talent doesn’t accidentally stop recording or mute when the unit is in their pocket?
Thanks for the great video.
I just wish there were some reasonable plans on the battery replacement. It seems no body cares, but every single battery dies in a couple of years. Is there any guarantee about the lifetime of the batteries?
Ok. i will buy it!!!
I just got this kit + the channel news mic for like 456$ and that’s including tax
As someone who is absolutely new to audio stuff (more experienced with photography) I am so so glad that one company has taken the consideration to have everything you need covered + being at top quality.
It does make it quite a bit easier (compared to looking at this brand for that thing and that brand for this thing situation, which just even that sentence is confusing so imagining the process and I’m glad I could just go to Rode for everything)
This was a great video and thanks for explaining the 32bit float thing, the raw comparison made a lot of sense coming from photography.
I bet you'll be back to DJI when THEY implement 32 bit float ;-)! Thank you for the solid review David!
I don't know what it is about filmmakers... But they're just the nicest people ever. Like, ever!
I don’t understand why I can’t fix the TX on the cold shoe of the suspension of the videomic ntg. Engineer or manufacturing error?
ruclips.net/video/uhMe__TVF6g/видео.htmlsi=QwE1VkPxUTRWfec6
great ad placement
Thanks for this video. But i have a problem with my Rode wireless pro. When i record with both transmitters in internal 32 bit mode, the 2 tracks is not sincronized (left with right), and with my PC is impossible to sincronize them with precision. Have you try with your sistem? Thanks
As far as I know, that is why there is a timecode system. Have you tried using the receiver to send the same timecode to both of the transmitters before recording?
Do these have a “Hold” button to prevent it from stop recording? Thanks!
How I have mine setup is to automatically record when I remove them from the case and not stop recording until I put them back into the case. So no amount of button pressing could stop them from recording
what we need now is 3.5 jack to go and invent hotshoe pinpoint connection with receiver directly, no jack no cables just like flash is connected
As someone who has been eyeing the Wireless Go for some time, I had no idea there was an Interview GO adapter for the Wireless Pros to make it more of a handheld mic. For $30, that's so worth it to not to mic up a subject on the street, etc unless you have to. So the Dynamic is more...dynamic and the High is more of a "compressed" feel where everything is more evened out? 🤔🤔 That's really useful. I've been wanting to use my iPhone 13 Pro Max to shoot some footage with solid audio until I can afford a mirrorless camera. So the internal recording on this would be fantastic for that and just sync it up in post.
Yeah man, recording 32-bit float audio on these while shooting ProRes on your iPhone and you’ve already got a bananas good setup!
great video, i'll be sticking with my dji wireless mic system. nice to see rode adopt some things from dji to make improvements to their previous system but for me, 32 bit float audio isn't a big concern for me.
Is the receiver also 7 hours battery?
From 19:50 to the end of the video is what made me subscribe 😂😂😂😂😂
There is a major shortcoming that is not mentioned in the test video. The battery cannot be replaced. It is an expensive consumer electronic product. If you can accept that it may malfunction after the one-year warranty period, you can buy it. Otherwise, you can choose a cheaper product.
First :) Thank you for the quality and value content
I wish you would have talked about timecode
Want it - but Everytime I get my hopes up on these wireless systems they always sound kinda meh - but I do how slim they make your camera when you don’t have to put a damn mic on top.
To be fair, this audio was straight out of the mics with no adjustments. Pretty sure you could sprinkle some sauce on that audio in post to spice it up a bit!
ok that's not bad then@@DavidManningvlog
Nice 👍🏾
Hot damn indeed 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Unreal man! And a solid explanation to boot!
Oh so nobody noticed he sounded like kermit the frog starting at 2:32 ? Lol ok carry on.... 😂
I think I’m gonna switch too
Main question, does the receiver connect via USB-C?
What was the answer?😮
So here is a request. I know you don't have a motorcycle but I was thinking of buying this for a Motovlog setup. Since it comes.with the lav mics, I was thinking of mounting the lav mic in my helmet and have the lav mic clicked into the transmitter and then do the business.
What I want to know is....does the 32bit float feature work with the lav mics connected? Does the wind noise from the air blowing into your helmet gets blocked out with this new mic system? Or is the 'clipping' only eliminated from voice frequencies?
See if you can test wind noise inside a helmet. I'm not sure if you have anything that could go at least 45mph to do helmet with lav mic installed audio test
O and I use either the hero cams, DJI action 3/4 or insta360 X3/one RS 1" to record my audio into.
So do the wireless pro process audio to 32bit audio and then give you the effects of 32bit audio even though it's plugged into an action camera?
David: "We'll talk about price at the end."
Me: gulp
I think that guy had the Wireless GO not the Pro, I think he misunderstood, because the Pro doesn't come in white that I have seen. I got mine on the day of release, however the charge case is faulty, they wanted me to send the entire system back and replace the whole thing because they didn't have any individual replacement parts yet, I told them I would wait for them to get replacement cases, it is a waste to send in the entire system when I can charge the individual xmitter/receiver individually.
Ah dang, bummed you got a dud! That guy Rob did had the Pro, he just had it in a white silicone skin. Stoked to hear what you think of the kit once you get your replacement. It's been such a solid switch for me!
These vs DJI 2 comparison?
Really silly question I'm sure...but if I am transmitting directly to the camera, could I still chose to use the 32 bit float file, rather than the audio sent to the camera. Could I just chose to use the 32 bit backup recording? If so, it seems like it just makes more sense to transmit to camera and then only use the 32 bit float file if necessary (not just for moments when it loses signal. Someone help!
Replying so i can find out too :P
Cameras curreny don't take 32bit audio
How good is Rob!!!
Right?! He nailed the explanation!
I’m thinking I watch too much RUclips when I’m paying more attention to your FareDrop shirt from Kara &Nate channel.
Hahaha! Love those guys!!!
wait aren't they clipping in the intro on the boardwalk?
Were you using an 11mm lense?
16-35mm👍
Me again (lol) - so, ignore my Sony (long name of mic here) comment - this thing is INSANE, and by far the best choice for my R8. Thanks!
Hi Dave… still waiting for the Quick Tip Tuesdays to make a comeback
How much did you pay that guy? 😂 lol that was awesome
n00b had the white Rode Go 2 not the Pro
i bet his going to comment here about meeting you
Hot damn
Didn't see You turning away from that reciever at that 700ft, huh?
I only went to the 400ft mark, otherwise I would have been in the woods. Also, 400 ft is ridiculously far from the camera!
iPhones record 32-bit float in the voice memos app
