The fact that this video isn't 10 minutes of beating around the bush while pushing a sponsor is super refreshing from the average youtube content. 10/10.
Refreshing to see a video that gets straight to the point, tells a story and ends with a great closing sentence. And all within a couple of minutes! Great stuff!
Several people had done pretzel flips before this moment, for example Dean Bercovich at momentum camps around 2017. The concept dates as far back as Chris Turpin in the 2000s. Although there has been an increase in its use in big air, it is still riskier to choose these tricks as the judging is more inconsistent than conventional spin to win.
Wow, perfect video. And thank GOD this kid was so creative. Spin To Win is why I can’t stomach watching snowboarding. It’s so boring. Every trick is so identical. No style, no interest, no sectioned, just a whole lotta spinning. Hats off to this dude for saving us from the dismal path of snowboarding. Now we can call it even with snowboarders. Snowboarding saved skiing by bringing us shaped skis and new ideas. Now snowboarding needs to follow skiing’s lead and stop the spin cycle.
Hey don`t come here with that attitude it is not a fight. It is the event and audience fault, not the athletes. Snowboarders have been pushing for style for decades. On the snowboard side. I`d say Terje haakonsen, Kazuhiro kokobu, danny davis, halldor helgasson, Sage Kotsenburg, marcus klevland, have been pretty influential in the style in competition scene. Pretty sure snowboarders started x-games knuckle huck competition 5 years ago, which is all about style. Look at Halldor doing lobster flips in competition back in 2011, that was a direct critique against spin to win when double corks were still kinda fresh. Danny Davis and kazuhiro kokubo pushed the X-games judges to reward style in half pipe. Then you have Terje haakonsen doing it in the 90s. We also have style events like the Dew Tour jam in copper for snowboarders and skiers, which is dominated by snowboarders. I recommend watching that, it is really fun. Also red bull natural selection, a very popular freeride competition where style obviously is a major factor for winning has been going on for 13 years.
I agree a in relation to the big air and halfpipe sections, but the knuckle huck sees some crazy never been done shit every year. Couple years back Zeb Powell had another rider lay on the knuckle on his back with his board up like a ramp, and Zeb hit it like a kicker
i remember spending 3 days trying to learn this on the trampoline, with no luck... only to be laying in bed one night, thing about the movement over and over again, and suddenly, something clicked in my head. i ran outside at 3am and stomped it on the second try. now i can do them off 3ft ledges into sand, (i cant really get the rotation around if i do them lower)... tricks like this arguably take more coordination than just hucking a massive set of spins. it is hard for a lot of people to grasp. it reminds me of when i was really into fire spinning, and couldn't figure out certain tricks/weaves, but i would just lay there and thing about it from more of an 'outsiders perspective', and then i would just suddenly be able to do it. awesome video!! :3
Im reminded of Halldor Helgason in the 2013 Xgames Big Air, it was peak spin-to-win for snowboarders then. Halldor eventually had a bad crash that year, but the tricks he was doing stood out so much from the rest of the field because he was putting a unique style on it. I recall the judges not really knowing how to score him...
While those "million move" tricks are obviously super impressive from a technical standpoint, I've always thought the best looking tricks are the ones where the person holds the pose. As someone from the old school, it used to be in moguls guys would try to throw in as many daffy twists as they could but it never looked half as good as someone throwing a really nicely held backscratcher. Same with this example....it moves "slower" so you have more time to appreciate it.
It is not one move to change an entire sport. Ski and snowboard are often at the same place so they influence eachother. Snowboarders have been pushing for style for decades. On the snowboard side. I`d say Terje haakonsen, Kazuhiro kokobu, danny davis, halldor helgasson, Sage Kotsenburg, marcus klevland, have been pretty influential in the style in competition scene.
Great vid! although a word or two on the bunch being a inspiration to Ruud would be fitting, And do not forget Harlauts griselda flip in xgames 2020. The steezy flame has been held alive by ppl such as kimbo since like forever. I know that street/film is very different than comp, but anyhow. Great film
it's funny as back some time ago freestyle skiing was acting as the subcultural division of old school acrobatic skiing/mogul skiing. Now after some time of spin-to-win doctrine we came back to the fundamentals from which the division took place.
I think it's generational. Vinny was definitely the style master of my generation but then came the dark days of spin to win at every comp. Birk comes along and gave the scene a refresh giving those competing a new vision of possibilities. But I'd imagine there will be another time where the competitive side gets stale. Then another skier will come along to make it all feel fresh again. The cycle of what scores well with judges
Jesper tjader did a 180 + double backflip + opposite/pretzel 180 out, years before this. Nobody seemed to notice that he was breaking the laws of physics or give him credit for being the trendsetter.
this video is BAD this trick didnt changer shit. it was a nbd, yes. but it not a new concept at all vinny cash did predzel flips in comp before anton linden did a dub like that in 2019 and theyre both more influancal than this one. also in the years before that people started doing more complicated rotation instead of biggest spin like teal harle . do more research, this is like rewriting history wrongly lol ps using a clip of an ig contest of spin to win to back your "skiing was going in a spin to win direction" statement is so cooked
So instead of making tricks look effortless like the late 2000s you flail your arms more than any action sport to bring the rotation back like Dean Bercovitch did a decade ago. Gotcha.
12 year olds have been doing this for years keep this clickbait bs out of the ski community 😪 and giving Birk ruud of all people credit for “saving skiing from spin to win” is actually insane 😭😂
Skiing was dying until snowboarding came around, gay like roĺlerblading. No jump parks,no free riding. If it wasn't for snowboarding they would still be skiing on twigs not powder skis that they copied from snowboard tech.
The fact that this video isn't 10 minutes of beating around the bush while pushing a sponsor is super refreshing from the average youtube content. 10/10.
the video that saved youtube
great video! those cork 0's are still one of my favorite tricks out there. they hurt my brain every time i see one
Refreshing to see a video that gets straight to the point, tells a story and ends with a great closing sentence. And all within a couple of minutes! Great stuff!
The commitment to pull off 2:01. That is insane
This was an insanely fire video dude. Straight to the point and I love it!
Phenomenal video. Brief, entertaining, educational. Crushed it

Came here to make sure Dean was mentioned. He walked so Birk and the rest for freeskiing could run

And the flow of that break at the end of the trick? Amazing guy
normally dont like or comment but you have my respect for making this the way you did, another 10/10 from me
This video was so good, really awesome to watch and fit into the perfect time to tell this story. Well done man
1:34 is simply elegant, looked like an optical illusion the way they threw that
Fr it’s like which way is the girl swinging lol
Thanks you

dAMN thats cool
been said but insane video, straight to the point

make more of this
❤️🙏
I also think that the griselda flip is one of the steeziest tricks out there
Spaz style is coming.
Great vid g
Thxs that someone saved skiing!
amazing video
Amazing vid.
teal harle and nick suchy deserve some credit

Im glad the video was not 1 hour long
Not bad for your second video brother
Underrated
Not kidding, that trick looks exactly like my first backflip attempt that ended with a broken rib.

I still remember when all the leaders of the world came together to decide that skiing will be banned forever and then this trick happened
good video
that dude at 2:02 out in the SSX universe
Ryan Williams did the same with bmx tricks :)
Great vid! although a word or two on the bunch being a inspiration to Ruud would be fitting, And do not forget Harlauts griselda flip in xgames 2020. Ngl. My brain hurts watching a cork 0. Like, wtf?!
it's funny as back some time ago freestyle skiing was acting as the subcultural division of old school acrobatic skiing/mogul skiing. Now after some time of spin-to-win doctrine we came back to the fundamentals from which the division took place.
Credit should be given to Vinny cash years before
The whole gagnier family changed skiing more than we often realize
I think it's generational. Vinny was definitely the style master of my generation but then came the dark days of spin to win at every comp. Birk comes along and gave the scene a refresh giving those competing a new vision of possibilities. But I'd imagine there will be another time where the competitive side gets stale. I think, to a lesser extent, BMX had a similar moment with Ryan Williams cash roll.
I think I just got back into skiiing big air events with this!
Cool video
the cork 0 type tricks starting to look like SSX3
You said safe trick. Deff gotta be scarier and riskier than a big double. Probably safer than a big triple
I can't believe it took this long...
so it`s not a "bring back" ? or is the "bring back" something elese.....
Cork zero? I'd call it a lincoln loop twister. Could only be a zero spin if done switch. But I'm old school...
This is why i love watching knucklehuck
solid vid dude
reminds me of Zeb powell a lot.
Awesomesauce
charles gagnier did it +10 years before, you guys didnt knew ?
i love skiing
Its called a cork zero because the free runner pasha did it first and named it that
Did not save skiing, everybody did future spins before. Now all people do is ”pretzels” 😂
He got this FROM the parkour community.. not the other way around like you try to claim.
Jesper tjader did a 180 + double backflip + opposite/pretzel 180 out, years before this. Nobody seemed to notice that he was breaking the laws of physics or give him credit for being the trendsetter.
Interesting!
are u saying that Style is back and spin to win is out :D best news ever
this video is BAD this trick didnt changer shit. it was a nbd, yes. but it not a new concept at all vinny cash did predzel flips in comp before anton linden did a dub like that in 2019 and theyre both more influancal than this one. also in the years before that people started doing more complicated rotation instead of biggest spin like teal harle . do more research, this is like rewriting history wrongly lol
ps using a clip of an ig contest of spin to win to back your "skiing was going in a spin to win direction" statement is so cooked
This video is wrong candi tovex was the first person to do this in like 2009
Nah the Griselda flip pulled in Xgames a few years back was the real saviour
2:02 iiiis wiiiiild!
„Changed freestyle skiing forever“ And when was that?
awesome
career change
Most of them are cork zeros
Vincent Gagnier was doing this years before Birk Ruud
10 years before 😂
The trick that saved skiing is reducing carbon emissions
So instead of making tricks look effortless like the late 2000s you flail your arms more than any action sport to bring the rotation back like Dean Bercovitch did a decade ago. Gotcha.
flat 0 *
I love the creativity but it’s kind of sloppy and flaily looking. Still rad though.
12 year olds have been doing this for years keep this clickbait bs out of the ski community 😪 and giving Birk ruud of all people credit for “saving skiing from spin to win” is actually insane 😭😂
Leo landroe is crazy
please make more skiing content and less blender content, I like skiing more than i like blender
But it's not skiing. It is tricks on skis. Been skiing all my life and never did that before
this sport is embarrassing compared to snowboarding.
Skiing was dying until snowboarding came around, gay like roĺlerblading. No jump parks,no free riding. If it wasn't for snowboarding they would still be skiing on twigs not powder skis that they copied from snowboard tech.
this new pretzel spaz style is fuckin dope tho
Skiing sucks
So does your mom.
man who has never done anything cool in his life is here to hate on people
