    Hello Winston/Carbide3D, I've been using these SN04/05 style sensors for a few years on my custom machine and they've had pretty poor reliability compared to their LJ12A3 cousins - I've had two SN04 die on me so far (don't trigger anymore, were operated within specs, shielded, etc.). I don't doubt you have a reputable supplier, but it led me to choosing the normally-closed (NC) variant instead, as, when the sensor dies, it seems to fail safely (always triggered). Judging by the LED, you went with the NO version, which is probably fine for Shapeoko (also probably for board/firmware compatibility reasons), but I'd recommend the PNP NC version for any new machines, especially lead/ballscrew driven ones. Keep up the good work!

    I put reed switches on my machine when it was a month old. Some people said they would never work due to vibration but they still work perfect today and it cost me all of about $10 and a little time to figure it out. I did 3D print a few parts to make installation easier.

    Waiting to see if they come out with a "Bit-changer" next... Would go great with the bit-runner and bit-setter.

    Well this explains why my switch is in the way of the drag chain and the chain brackets for the belt z axis isn't long enough........ I bought the xxl upgrade kit and I've had to get parts sent twice now and it looks like it may be a 3rd time.....

    The company I work for invented inductive prox sensors. Carbide guys if you start to have quality issues with your sensors please contact me. I have one of your machines and love it.

    What about the homing switches on the y1 and y2? I feel like this step was totally skipped over , it doesn’t not mention where these plug into now

    I do NOT have the M4 Screw to hold the Zplate onto the HDZ. I also have another bracket that came with this setup that is not in your video and I'm missing most of those plates that hold up the drag-chain. Disappointed as now my machine is down. I'm trying to cobble things together.

    Have watched this vid like 5x now and while this is also being billed as a retro-fit kit, I do not recall at any point how the Z switch is installed for older belt driven Z's.

    Just opened my order - I do NOT have any of the right angled brackets for the back of the rail to support the drag-chain. Should those have been in the package? Thanx

    Sweet. Any chance there will ever be support for a second Y homing switch so the machine can self-square instead of being locked into whatever skewed angle it got bumped into while it was off?

    • @carbide3d
      @carbide3d  4 года назад +1

      It cannot be done with the current hardware as you'd need another input for the other Y switch. There's experimental support for it in GRBL, but at this time we're not pursuing it.

    Please consider a trade-in/up program for X-Carve users.

    In a couple weeks. I was told that in March as well. If you are interested in a set contact Daniel at Pwncnc.com. He has 29 kits available (was 30 but mine is on the way) plus I guarantee they are cheaper than C3D.

    Any chance steel core belts are coming down the pipeline too?

    • @ex-nerd
      @ex-nerd 4 года назад

      As I understand it, they started adding steel core belts to the maintenance kit (with extra v-wheels, etc) as soon as they started shipping steel core belts on the new machines (earlier this year)
