I remembered watching this video over a year ago (before I even had my machine delivered) thinking "man I hope that never happens to me." Well it did, and after an hour of trying to figure it out, I remembered your video. And, first try...it works. You're the man! Thanks!!!
My Shapeoko 4 XL was having the same issue! I added a 2mm piece of G10 scrap between the switch and the X rail and problem solved. I have been fighting this issue since I got the machine 2 months ago. THANK YOU!
I worked on CNC Machining centers 40 years ago, big ones that made parts as long as 80 feet long.(Crank shafts for ship engines) and other CNC machines that made small parts. I had my wisdom teeth extracted and became stupid and started flying airplanes for a living. Your series about this this machine is making me think about acquiring a CNC machine.
I just setup my XXL Pro and it wouldn't home so I watched this and although I had a completely different issue, watching the video at least gave me some ideas. I didn't even know the homing switches were magnetic. In the end, one of my switches was far enough forward that the gantry would knock into it instead of go over it to trigger it.
Great video and I am having that same problem....sort of. The light for that same sensor doesn't come on unfortunately regardless what I do with it.. I've reached out to Carbide for a new one. Not even sure what a pain it may be to replace it however.
Liked the video, I'm ordering one myself, The pro model. Can't wait. I'm getting a head start by watching you.. Keep them coming. Have you purchased any v bits yet?.. I'd like to see some signs with the v bits. Thanks
Woohoo!!! You're going to love it! Yes, I have a few v bits so far. My latest video about making the Avengers Infinity Gauntlet sign was done with a few bits, but a 60-degree v bit was used mostly.
Good video. I have the same x-limiter problem with my Pro. There is a cutout on on the gantry Z-Axis plate that exactly lines up with the x-limiter switch. I tried metal ducting tape but it is not consistent. I will have to try your fix. Thanks
I hope this works for you! It's been rock-solid for me ever since spacing it off about 2.5mm. I would liked to have had 5mm, but didn't have long enough bolts.
I had the same issue only with the y axis sensor. I had to install a spacer also. Word of caution I had several issues with the cable connections. The pins in the connectors have a tendency to back out of the connector when you connect them together. I had several of them do this and the stepper motor were making a horrible noise and vibration. You cold also see it ship steps from the poor contact in the connector. Make sure you inspect the connectors to see if and pins have backed out. When making these connections hold the wires behind the connector while connecting the two together. Hope this helps.
Y and Z axis always go gome but x axis once go 3mm in negative then 3mm positive or sometning like no precised. Always other distance, what is the problem?Driver is ok, when im doing calibration its good….
Dear sir, In my homing processing (using Mach3) its only 2 axis working (y and z), X Axis it does not working, X axis position before homing process was at not zero pisition, What happent ?
Thank you for sharing. I must say that is a bit upsetting seeing I have the 3XXL and you have the pro to have the same problem the maker did not resolve. You deserve a pat on the back.
Yesterday I did a shim as well to bring the sensor forward so it can see the metal plate. I ran the program, the light lights up but does not stop! So far the engineering people gave me a new switch, new controller, and now sending out a new prox switch. I regret buying this. I ordered mine the middle of November, received it the 27th of December, took 8 hours to assemble bc no instructions except a cocky kid w a 17 minute video that I had to watch 1000 times, and still can’t get it to initialize!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
I hate to hear you've had the problems with your machine. My experience with support has been good, I hope they get you squared away soon, too. If you're not in the facebook group I'd suggest joining, too. Lots of helpful people over there too. I'm not affiliated with the group other than being a fellow member.

That was a very cleaver solution to the problem! way to go Sam!

I liked the painters tape. It gave it that touch of Samgenuity and added a little color. 😊
Man you figure this stuff out quick!! Your some kind of genius!! 🤓
You fixed my machine! Thank you for what you do👍🏼👍🏼
Super helpful! Thanks so much!
This video just saved me from a huge stress!!
Glad I seen this video. I was about to buy the same machine . I’ll pass the shapeoko. Thx for saving me this headache. Love your channel
Happy to help and give as much info as I can!
Sam your going to be a legend in the Shapeoko community before the HDZ upgrade for the Shapeoko Pro is available!!
Again!! GREAT JOB AND VIDEO!!
Seriously the HDZ upgrade. Has carbide3d said something about it.

Good job buddy 👍
Thank you for sharing.
Sam, thank you. I had the same issue. Viola! Sam saved the day. :)
Glad it helped!
I bet that was a relief to get that ironed out!!!
It helped! Thanks a lot!
Glad to hear it!
Just got a 4 std and could not get the x-axis homing to work correctly. This looks VERY similar. Cant wait to try in the am. Thanks.
Lol you funny sam, hey wally is fix, hey maybe you can do a sing for the workshop, really cool!
Ok, that wasn't so bad. Jury's still out about whether this is in or out of my league.

Nice! :-)

Which other card I can use other than pcb carbide motion or bit setter
Good fix Sam show me the projects lol.⛩️

I never heard that turning your motors by moving stuff could back-feed voltage into the controller board. Where did you get that info?
My issue is the Z! Once it goes to initialize it starts grinding away. Any help is appreciated thank you!
I had the same issue only with the y axis sensor. I had to install a spacer also.

Good heads-up and advice for others, thanks!
Fixing and work arounds on a brand new machine. Glad you made the vid wont be looking at this CNC for my shop.
You're going to have issues with any machine, especially new models. I'm an icebreaker here. :)
So what does this machine do anyway?
You should put some washsers instead of the blue tape for your fix. It should be more steady
Y and Z axis always go gome but x axis once go 3mm in negative then 3mm positive or sometning like no precised. Always other distance, what is the problem?Driver is ok, when im doing calibration its good….
I had almost forgot the joys of proximity switches.
Dear sir,

Sorry, I don't know anything about Mach3.
Appreciate that you directly addressed the issue that I had, but 12 min is easy too long to say "try some tape behind the sensor"
I just set mines up. The x axes blue light wont turn off and the y axis switch dont turn on. Already let them know
woooh well done, why hadnt shapeoko do this?.......Cut some wood sam your killing me with the suspense
All axis homeing problem how to solve this problem
Thank you for sharing. I must say that is a bit upsetting seeing I have the 3XXL and you have the pro to have the same problem the maker did not resolve. You deserve a pat on the back.
After watching your CNC videos, Kathe is asking if I want one..!!!! Hmmmm how do I play this?!.... :)
Just say yes!!!!! :)
YAY YOU!!! But, I think you just voided your warranty. ; )

You're doing a great job fixing problems on a new CNC machine, but a terrible job at selling them. Shame on Shapeoko!
I'm not here to be a salesman! LOL I'm here to share the truth with everyone and give tools to help if possible. :-D
Get video!!! Troubleshooting instead of posting crying in the Shapeoko group is the way to get the most out of your Shapeoko!!
Thankyou. But these things shouldn't happen. These issues should have been tested and fixed before shipment.
