Awesome review! Spot on. I recently received mine. Waited 4 months for it. Wasn’t too difficult to disassemble and move down to my basement. My quads burn without putting any weight on. It arrived with the skateboard tape installed. Unfortunately it got some scratches and gouges during shipping but Fettle Fitness made it right. Their customer service is second to none. Highly recommend!
Thanks so much! Great to hear you are happy with yours and that Fettle took good care of you. It really is remarkable how little weight is needed for an effective set.
@@srilanka739 It feels great! Really burns the quads! I’m 45 and have some lower back issues but no problem with this. I don’t have that issue. What I do is place my feet more than halfway up the footplate. If you were to draw an imaginary line across the middle, my heels would be on that line or slightly above
Thanks for the review. Looks like the distance from the pivot point of the lever arm to the backrest is about 60". I can attach two metal rack uprights to the wall with a pivot pin to act as the lever arm for a pendulum squat. I have a Titan Space Saving rack with uprights 24" from the wall. I can add plate storage horn to the existing upright as a low safety. Can use a removable pin for the high safety. I will attach a plywood foot plate to the wall at a 42 degree angle. I'll make a backrest that sits between the two lever arms that pivots down into position when I pull off the wall. Whole thing can fold back almost flat against the wall when not in use and take almost no floor space. I think I can get pretty close to this Pendulum Squat machine for about $300. Helps to see you use the machine to estimate the length of the arm and distance to to foot plate.
Good comprehensive and thoughtful review of the Fettle Fitness pendulum squat. It's a definite plus that you don't have to load massive amounts of weight, when it's a plate loaded machine, as that gets old in a hurry. Good work on planning out your wife's safe usage of the pendulum machine after her hip surgery.👍
You should reach out to Bolt Fitness to do a video comparing Fettle Fitness pans Bolt Fitness pendulum squats. Similar footprint and price point. Bolt Fitness pendulum squat is slightly smaller and has built in plate storage. It has larger footplate with steeper angle. It’s also heavier and looks a little more sturdy/stable due to support beams. Fettle Fitness pendulum squat is a little longer. It also has a counterweight to adjust the resistance curve. But doesn’t have built in plate storage. And looks less sturdy/stable (overall lighter and also lacks support beams).
The Bolt certainly looks good. With shipping, it’s about 200 more expensive and it looks like the Fettle has a 500 pound greater weight capacity. Also, with the shorter lever arm on the Bolt, it likely requires more weight for the same “feel.”

You'll be getting additional stretching in your quads as well building stronger knees, just avoid bouncing on the calfs and you'll be building a beautiful squat.
Thanks so much! Glad to hear you’ve used it and like it! I’ll try to change the depth when I get a little more comfortable in the top safety spot. Appreciate the feedback.

Pendulum squats look really cool, I’d love to try one. Just not having to load a ton of plates would be nice. Also, these HDR videos hurt my eyes. On my phone it just cranks everything up to max brightness, disregarding my chosen mid-level brightness setting. Sucks especially in a dark room.

@@HomeGymHacksandReviews I don’t think there’s anything wrong with your equipment, it’s just that the way my phone (iPhone 11) handles HDR video is super obnoxious. Same thing happens with HDR reels on IG. Most things are still not HDR, especially on RUclips, but the videos that are, it’s instantly obvious.
Hack Squats always bothered my knees too. The Pendulum does not bother my knees but there is forward pressure applied. I wear shoes like Converse which helps keep my heels planted. There is also the option to move the feet higher up on the platform if the exercise aggravates the knees.
Nice review. Is it truly 11 gauge and 8 gauge? I know a lot of Chinese made machines claim this but use thinner steel. What about the pivot point- parts of good quality?
Have you ever tried a hack squat or a hack squat/leg press combo machine? Wondering if you would still prefer the pendulum squat. I only have space for one of these and will have to decide between the hack squat and the pendulum squat.
@@curiexr8292 the hack squat is how I originally hurt my lower back. However, I am presently testing and working on a review for a Leg Press / Hack Squat Combo. At this point, I would take a Pendulum over a hack squat or even a leg press / hack squat combo machine.
It’s a tough call because there are so many good ones available. For purely quads, this is still my choice. For greater variety, the Rhino is my choice. My choice if I’m trying to save money is the Powertec Compact Leg Sled.
Thank you! The counterweight post can add assistance if it is needed. The stopper in the top position is a second way to make the exercise less difficult.

@@vmac65 I have seen this model in a few commercial facilities so it appears to hold up in high traffic settings. When you get it, please let me know what you think.
Great reviews. You must make a boatload of money to have a garage gym stocked with equipment where each piece is over $1500. Fettle is clearly cheaper than all the other leverage commercial equipment and appears to be of great quality. But is this really home gym material for most people? Keep in mind I'm jealous.
Thank you. I don’t. To get the equipment I have, I am constantly selling and upgrading. This gym started with mostly Titan equipment. To get my first Levergym, I had to sell almost everything I owned. I definitely see what you’re saying about some of these big ticket items. However, I am not suggesting someone fill their entire gym with Fettle equipment; rather, I hope reviews like this are helpful if there are those 1-2 machines people really miss from the commercial gym and now they really want it in their home gym. Also, quite a few people who have small PT studios watch these reviews before purchasing equipment for their gym. Since this video, my gym has changed tremendously.
I find this to be more lower back friendly which is about the most important thing to me. I feel this exercise more in my quads. If I could only have one, this wins.
Thanks so much! It’s so nice to have this option and my wife is super cool for letting me have the entire space. There was a time my homegym was in a room the size of a big closet, so this is a nice upgrade.
This is enticing... i just can't help but notice how narrow the footplate is though. Per their website its only 23.5" wide. So... close/standard (for some) stance is pretty much your only option. 23.5" being the max you can get the outside of your feet to is slightly narrower than my normal squat stance... slightly. Not a deal breaker... just locked in to pretty much one stance width. Going any narrower ill have to adjust my boys before hoping on to avoid crushing them, haha. 23.5" is pretty much shoulder width for me. Definitely still intrigued... because while that plate width is definitely a con for me.... it's also a pro as this thing is listed at only 36" wide overall. Meaning more room for more stuff in my garage. Which..... i think balances it out.
I haven’t compared the width of other pendulum footplates, but I think this is right on par, if not a little wider than most. Like you mentioned, width-wise, the machine doesn’t take up much space, it is a fairly long machine though.
Thank you! Some people say with a higher foot stance there is more glute activation; I am not so sure and will need to spend more time using the machine to see if I find that to be true or at least feel true.
I’ve looked at that machine and considered it. Fettle also has an awesome Leg Press where each leg works independently, so it would be very tough to decided between the two.
I was looking forwards to this review . Looks like it lives up to its promise ! I would like one however it looks like it needs a lot of space ? I have a atx leg sled , similar to the powertec that you have. How does it compare in size and use to the powertec sled HGHR ?
I don't have $2000 or the space in my home gym for this machine. Trying to figure out how to make a DIY Version of this I can attach to my wall mounted rack. Maybe an attachment for my lever arms with a chain safety. Could bolt the hinge pin to the wall and use the rack upright as a safety. Hmm...
Do you think short people, or people with short legs would have any problems using this machine? My wife is 5'1" and I'm not sure if she'd be able to effectively use this pendulum squat.
I am always reluctant to guarantee it would fit someone of a particular height, but I think it would; your wife may need to adjust her foot position once the weight is engaged. The back rest sits pretty low to the ground and close to the platform to begin with and there are 2 settings if I remember correctly.
Thanks for your insight. That's pretty much what I was thinking. I understand you no longer have the pendulum squat. May I ask why you sold it? @@HomeGymHacksandReviews
is the safety stopper adjustable? The Arsenal version of this machine is unusable for me as I train to absolute failure and the bottom-out position is too low
wow..nice review! question: can the pendulum be disassemble? I'm asking because I have my gym in the basement and it need to be able to fit through the bulkhead
The Powertec? Towards the end of the video, I compare the two briefly. The pendulum requires less weight and the back bad offers more stability. The lever arm is longer creating more of a swing, but it’s about double the price.

hey man Nice video. Do you think it would be possible to convert the regular (machine you tested earlier) squat machine to become a pendulum machine? Wouldn't it be enough to install a backrest and make the footplate adjustable (higher)? Greetings from Germany & good luck Sascha 💪🏼
Thank you! The Lever Squat could be modified with a back rest, but the difference is going to be in the length of the lever arm. If you increased the length of the lever arm on the lever squat, you wouldn’t be able to lock and unlock the arm because it would be out of reach from the upright and the machine is not designed to have the resistance that far from the base of support. I think The Lever Squat is solid on its own…if I were to do anything, it would just be add a back rest.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews thank you man With a backrest you could lie down even better and you have to pay less attention to your back. I think I'll see what I can change. keep making good videos !greetings 💪🏼
@@Notsostrongman375 I don’t have this machine anymore to measure, so I can’t be certain, but the longest section is the main lever arm which is basically the entire length of the machine; at some point in this video, I mention the length of the machine…that measurement should let you know if it will fit in the SUV you will be using.
Hey! Really thinking of getting one of these for my basement gym. Wondering how deep you can squat on this? Can you get all the way down (ass to grass)? How tall are you? The machine is not adjustable haha.

Same thing happens with HDR reels on IG. Most things are still not HDR, especially on RUclips, but the videos that are, it’s instantly obvious.
@@timk8258 Hopefully it’s not on my end…thanks so much.
Love the detailed video. I have a hack machine which is so painful on my knees at any foot position. How is this machine on the knees?
Hack Squats always bothered my knees too. The Pendulum does not bother my knees but there is forward pressure applied. I wear shoes like Converse which helps keep my heels planted. There is also the option to move the feet higher up on the platform if the exercise aggravates the knees.
Looks awesome!!!! Very cool!
Thank you, DBL!
Nice review. Is it truly 11 gauge and 8 gauge? I know a lot of Chinese made machines claim this but use thinner steel. What about the pivot point- parts of good quality?
Thank you! The website says 8-11 gauge steel. Everything feels very robust and this feels like one of the best made machines I’ve owned.
At this point, I would take a Pendulum over a hack squat or even a leg press / hack squat combo machine.
great! I'm still having a hard time figuring out which leg machine to choose.
It’s a tough call because there are so many good ones available. For purely quads, this is still my choice. For greater variety, the Rhino is my choice. My choice if I’m trying to save money is the Powertec Compact Leg Sled.
This machine looks very challenging. Would a beginner (aka my wife) be able to use this at all? Thanks! Great review
Thank you! The counterweight post can add assistance if it is needed. The stopper in the top position is a second way to make the exercise less difficult.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews great. Thank you. Has your dad ever used the machine? Interesting to hear his thoughts.
@@charlesvisconti4278 he tried it without weight as he is about 9 months out from a hip replacement. He really liked it…I briefly show him using it in our first recorded workout together. My wife also likes it.
Any issues with not having the footplate being adjustable ?
Not that I have found. The biggest change I have made since this video is wearing Chuck Taylor’s rather than the Nike Metcons to help keep my heels firmly planted.
How do you think this machine would work for someone on the shorter side? 5'4" - 5'7" range?
I can’t be 100% certain, but I think so. I have seen video of some users who are likely within that range using it with success.
$2k is not cheap, but it is well built and has quality bearings. My question is how disassemble is it? I would want to move it to a basement
It is easily one of the nicest and best made machines I’ve ever owned. It can be disassembled, but I would want two or three people to help me.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews Thanks! Reviews and hacks are great
@@christianbolt5761 thank you!
Excellent review!
Thank you!
Enough to convince me adding it to my training facility. That’s not easy.
@@vmac65 I have seen this model in a few commercial facilities so it appears to hold up in high traffic settings. When you get it, please let me know what you think.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews I certainly will. Again, great appreciation for the detailed review.
How much would you say you prefer this to the powertec squat/calf raise machine?
I find this to be more lower back friendly which is about the most important thing to me. I feel this exercise more in my quads. If I could only have one, this wins.
Great insight as always. Man I wish I had all that space of yours
Great review, makes me want one even more
Thanks so much!
Thank you for this video, very informative. Is it possible to utilize glute activation with this machine, if so, can you demonstrate?
Thank you! Some people say with a higher foot stance there is more glute activation; I am not so sure and will need to spend more time using the machine to see if I find that to be true or at least feel true.
awwwman!! ive been wanting to try those types of machines. You are gonna get a good workout for sure..I want to see those Jay Cutler legs!! lol
lol! If this could give me Jay Cutler’s legs, I would have paid double.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews lol!
I hope to see you review the Fettle Fitness Squat Press at some point in the future.
Thanks so much! It really does. Towards the end of the review, I briefly compare it to the Sled.
Hmm...
That could work. The Henny Attachment is also a decent option for a DIY Pendulum.
@@Spark0872 In order to keep this channel going, I frequently need to sell equipment to make room for new reviews.
is the safety stopper adjustable? The Arsenal version of this machine is unusable for me as I train to absolute failure and the bottom-out position is too low
To a small degree. At some point in the video, I can’t remember where, I show both of its settings.
wow..nice review! question: can the pendulum be disassemble? I'm asking because I have my gym in the basement and it need to be able to fit through the bulkhead
It can. There are not that many pieces so it wouldn’t be too bad, but you’ll probably need a second or third person.
I’m having neck surgery in a few months so I think barbell back squats are out of the picture moving forward. Does this put any pressure on the neck?
I found it to be lower back friendly, but there are shoulder pads and a minimal amount of compression that could aggravate your neck.
Can you compare this with the power squat machine? They look the same.
The Powertec? Towards the end of the video, I compare the two briefly. The pendulum requires less weight and the back bad offers more stability. The lever arm is longer creating more of a swing, but it’s about double the price.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews I mean the V/Super/Power squat machines.
@@twanpeters at some point, maybe and hopefully, but it won’t be anytime soon.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews suppose you could only buy 1 leg machine. Which one would you buy? :)
@@twanpeters I have a few videos called My Top 6, My New Top 6, and My Top 2 Machines for Every Muscle Group if you want a more detailed response, but it’s tricky…The Pendulum is my best quad builder, but the Rhino is far more versatile.
Does is it have assembly video or instructions?
@@infamous1427 because Fettle sends the machine fully assembled, I don’t think there is an assembly video. If you contact Fettle, they may be able to send you instructions because they assemble in their warehouse prior to shipping.
Do you think the adjustment counterweight is essential? I was thinking of getting the arsenal strength one but they have a fixed 150lbs tombstone instead of a weight horn
I don’t think it’s essential, but it’s a nice feature to increase or decrease the weight as needed.
hey man
Nice video.
Do you think it would be possible to convert the regular (machine you tested earlier) squat machine to become a pendulum machine?
Wouldn't it be enough to install a backrest and make the footplate adjustable (higher)?
Greetings from Germany & good luck
Sascha 💪🏼
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews

With a backrest you could lie down even better and you have to pay less attention to your back.
I think I'll see what I can change.

Was that your knees cracking?
I’m not sure. It’s been a while since I’ve watched this video.
What's the difference between loading the plates at the back and the front?
The front serves as a counterweight to offer some assistance in the bottom of the squat.
Is this fully welded or can it be taken apart to bring into the basement?
@@Notsostrongman375 it can be disassembled.

@ And Merry Christmas.
@ I see. Thanks. Any particular reason you got rid of it and did you replace it with another piece?
I am going to buy one. Do you have an affiliate link?
I do. It can be found in the description of this video along with my code. Thanks so much!
Hey! Really thinking of getting one of these for my basement gym. Wondering how deep you can squat on this? Can you get all the way down (ass to grass)? How tall are you? The machine is not adjustable haha.
There are two settings for depth. So far, I have only used the higher of the two, which already has me squatting super deep. 5’9”

@@HomeGymHacksandReviews interesting. only thing stopping me is that the foot plate is not adjustable. How does this feel on the knees?

Torn between this, the watson pendulum and the atlantis
@@srilanka739 yep, I switched to converse and that fixed the issue. This is significantly less expensive than the others especially with the 5% off code.
What is difference between that to the Powertec leversquat?
The biggest difference is the length of the lever arm (which makes this much more difficult) and the back support.

No rust. It was in perfect condition.
how does their back pad feel? Odd shape

It’s tough for me to say this one is better than those without trying them. My guess is they all hit the quads super hard, but having the ability to adjust the platform is pretty cool on the TofG one. I let this go over a year ago, but it should last for years and years without issue. It’s such a simple design, so there’s not much to go wrong / wear out.
This was a fantastic review! This is a piece I really want to add to my home gym, but until I can try it, I'm reluctant to move forward because I'm so tall. You look about 5'10 and it seemed like you just barely fit 😅
Thank you! I really hope some other people who own this can chime in with their height and ease of use. You’re right about my height.
