Seriously, though, you gotta hand it to Jeremy Renner. His acting for these bits were amazing. Especially considering he probably could actually hear everything Hailee Steinfeld was saying to him while they were filming these scenes. His facial expressions were SPOT ON
He's actually hard of hearing in real life, he just doesn't wear a hearing aid and doesn't like to talk about it. I'm certain that he drew on his own personal experiences for these scenes. Pay attention to him when he's in group interviews with the rest of the cast -- he doesn't always realize when people are talking to him and he makes those kinds of expressions a lot.
I'm hard of hearing. My ears gradually got worse in my 20s and they nailed all the hearing aid jokes and unfortunately the sadness and frustration there is along with it sometimes. Also I know they kept it simple but one hearing aid would not make him hear perfectly fine
Clint trying to talk to his son, whilst he can't hear him, is one of the best scenes in the entire MCU in my opinion. Ironically it doesn't even have any superhero schenanigans in it either.

The show really handled Clint's deafness so well. My favorite part is when they show just how he became deaf - there wasn't some big dramatic event, he didn't get shot in the ears by his archenemy or something, it was just the result of decades of being the normal dude among the Avengers. I love it. Feels so real.
Like Thor, with his eye 👁, a part of me wonders if alien technology can effectively solve Clint’s hearing problems. Honestly, given what Clint has been through, it is probably a miracle he didn’t die like he did in several What If versions of him.
Considering Wakanda and Tony's tech, im fairly certain they wouldnt even need alien tech to fix his hearing and even make it better than it was. I mean if Wakanda has tech to heal shot to the spine with relative easy, i dont think getting him high tech hearing aid would be that impossible

It has its moments, for sure, and Hawkeye himself is excellently written (I would argue Kate is pretty good too, though some would disagree with me on that), but the actual plot is... not all there
Another fun scene related to his deafness is when it shows a montage of all the times during the movies where's he's exposed to the all the loud noises that destroy his hearing

When I got pnemonia, the fluid from my lungs travelled into my throat and blocked the estation tubes, so I was hard of hearing for a few weeks, and they were very unnerving. I can't imagine life like that, and I'm glad that hearing aids and sign language exist for those who do.
Weird, and very isolating. I can never tell how loud I'm being, and it feels strange when you can tell you're talking, but aren't getting any feedback. When that started happening, I got much quieter. I used to be able to hear fine, which is why I had such a hard time processing it.

They're going to look like little galaxies. You adjust, over time. I'm really excited to be able to hear again, and that my hearing are going to look so cool.

Yes, it's a nod to the comics. Yes, it's representation. Yes, it makes him feel more human. But it also is great for the writing. He's the mentor figure, but when he can't hear and they lack free hands to sign or write, she has to step up. It adds an interesting dynamic. What a good decision
Renner is one of the last good things marvel still has their hands on. Amongst the wreck of modern marvel, seeing clips of him is a little breath of fresh air... even if the show itself isn't great.

Also speaking as someone who lives in a big city with public transport, getting your drivers license doesn't feel like "Now I'm free to go where I want." Parking's a hassle, owning a car in general is just a big money pit and There's no telling how long you might get stuck in traffic, especially if the weather is no good. I can get to places much more reliably and in a consistent amount of time with the subway schedule nine times out of ten.

The general lack of *need* to drive means that traffic isn't as bad as you'd expect either. During the middle of the day the number of people in the city is mind-boggling, but none of those people are going to get in their car to go to lunch like they might in a sprawling sunbelt city.

I think in the comics, Tony did gave him Stark hearing aids but Clint still preferred using regular hearing aids instead.
