I love JCS with a passion. Ever since I first heard it. It moves me to tears, brings me the deepest joy and sadness all at the same time. It's just such a wonderful piece of art on every level.
I love this soooo much

Thank you omg
I just think that Daltrey, who was in the first rock opera, landing in a production of JCSS is wonderful casting.
I'm obsessed with Jesus Christ Superstar and have seen hundreds of versions, but not this one. Thanks!
As a massive fan of both the Who and JCS, I have searched in vain for this production for years! Thank you!
Now if it were just possible to get Daltrey and Gillan to share the stage...
Oh man, that would be amazing!
That would be nothing short of an epic performance
Roger Daltrey is my favourite Judas; passionate but real!!
Yes, he’s Everyman, which is just right.
I didn't know Roger Daltrey had ever been in a version of JCS. He's my favourite singer of all time! And he's amazing in this! I'm glad I stumbled across it. My new favourite Judas.
Also, Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet as Jesus. I like his take on it, but there are better.
Ted and Carl are the best for the true die hard jcs nerds. Everyone knows that lol. This Judas is good but he’s no Carl Anderson. Gillian is good too. But I’m bias to Ted.
@@brandonhannick8520 Carl Anderson cant touch Roger Daltrey at anything. Anderson wasnt even that great of a singer its just nostalgia.
Steve Balsamo is the best Jesus of all times, he smashes Ted out of the park.
there are not other rock singer as Roger! Long live Roger!
Whithout tour LOVE ? ❤
WOW! This is an amazing version of JCS! It's too bad it never got the CD/DVD treatment.
Probably the best version of Jesus Christ Superstar I've encountered. Roger Daltrey kills it as Judas.
Remember taping this off the radio as it was broadcast live. Never thought I'd hear it again. Thank you for uploading! Amazing! :)
Wait, WHAT?!?! There's a version of JCS with Roger Daltrey? How the F did this fly under my radar for over 20 years? Love it!! Thanks for posting this.
Outstanding, fantastic, wonderful. Thank You Jesus for suffering and dying in my place.
Once I told them I loved Jesus Christ Superstar. I am really enjoying. The different versions that pop up badass Good night, Andrew Lloyd Webber.
When the original came out i was 7-8 years old and now every time i hear "Superstar" i sing the song we all sang as kids in the school yard:
"Jesus Christ Superstar Burnin' down the corner in a motorcar.
"Cops come up, we don't care, we got bullet proof underwear".
Aahh good times as a kids. Yah can never get it back.
Why does no one mention how wonderful Tony Hadley is?
I know. The man has a set of pipes.
I didn't appreciate enough until I listened all the way through... especially Gethsemane and the Last Supper.
Thank you!! The audience is applauding everyone else, but it's Tony Hadley whose voice was made for this role!!
So True
Judas: Roger Daltrey!!!!
This is really amazing! Roger Daltrey! Tony too, you can hear that he isn't a rock singer, especially in Gethsemane but he did a good job.
I grew up going to the picture theater watching this and never get sick of watching JCS then I saw John farnham sing omg amazing I loved Ted Nely sing but he was out of this world ❤
Frances Ruffelle ❤
The best show life ever.!!!!
Thanks you.
Best version of "Could we start again" I have ever heard - Frances' voice is perfection. That song wasn't on the original album - I would have liked to hear Yvonne Elliman sing it.
The song was added during the original Broadway production which also starred Yvonne Elliman. You can listen to her singing the song on the official album which you can stream on Spotify. You can also check out our website for links.
@@JCSZone Thanks. I found one that looked like it was from a movie, and her voice didn't sound as nice as it was on the original soundtrack - maybe because there was no background music?? Maybe that was actually the one your are referring to? Thanks again.
This is the version that was mentioned earlier: ruclips.net/video/tSJE_R7Ejtw/видео.html (there's a chance the video is region blocked for some countries)
Love Pilate in this one!
Roger's reprise of "I DON'T KNOW HOW TO LOVE HIM", and JUDA'S DEATH are something EPIC!!
The orchestra in this recording of the show is just absolutely phenomenal. Flawless.
Tony Hadley as JC has a beautiful voice. However if I don't hear THE high note or the screams on "Gethsemane", it just doesn't cut it for me.
I love this. Saw the movie when it came out in theaters.❤️
Brilliantly done. Brilliant.
And John Barr as Simon and Jeff Shankley as Pilate. This is such a great production. Is it available on CD?
No, unfortunately not. This concert was exclusively broadcast on BBC radio and was never released on any other medium.
Great show, faultless cast (Roger Daltrey, Frances Ruffelle, Jeff Shankley, I could go on...), only criticism is that there's no rock scream in Gethsemane. And perhaps King Herod's Song is a bit too talky.
I noticed it too, Tony isn't a rock singer but I think he could have arranged some scream when it needed. But good anyway
@Bruce Bashore My only problem with his version is that Herod is supposed to be a weak puppet king under the Romans. Alice Cooper could just say - Romans? Hell no, I'm the King here.
This is an absolutely nice version. I like the fact that it was recorded in front of a live audience. King Herod's Song is a bit disappointing, he should be singing it, not to speak..
Nothing compares to the original, but....they did great vocals...good job 👍
Ian Gillan
@@bonnescottkarra5879 not even close..!
Buema mgsica
Does anyone know if the producers used the URANTIA book in any way in the creation of this work?
👍🥃🎩🌷
This is good but got nothing the the 92 Australian rendition.
Thar Herod put me to sleep. I've really been spoiled by better performances.
I agree. I like the original from the 1970 album.
herods-bad
Only the original has the right emotion. In every other version, they don't know what acting is.
BBC and not capable of finding a Jesus singing a simply high note in 54:14 - Gethsemane??? There are sooo many of them... I really don´t understand... :/
camilo sesto mola mas que estos flojos......
i recorded this off the radio when it was broadcast and played it to death until my stereo very kindly decided to chew it up and snap it beyond repair! :-( So great to hear it again after all these years.
I remember the BBC radio 2 went through a great period around that time of doing these types of concerts/broadcasts.
I used to have the 21st anniversary concert broadcast of A chorus Line and Sunset Boulevard with Petula Clark and Michael Ball as well as a few other shows and concerts. they were great. wish they'd make them available to buy they're fantastic!
thanks for posting. much appreciated! :-)
Frances Ruffelle singing Mary Magdalene. I KNEW the voice sounded familiar
Wow! A one brilliant rendition of JCS. Really digging the orchestrations in these one and Roger Daltrey as Judas is just top notch!
Jesu Arioste I totally agree. After listening to Murray Head, Carl Anderson and Brandon Dixon's portrayal of Judas in JCS, Roger Daltrey totally nails it and he indeed is top notch. Love it!!
Have you heard the 1992 Australian version? Absolutely fabulous.
Roger Daltry Does Have The "feel" for Judas, But I'm Not So Sure About The Role of Jesus As Done By The Lead of Spandau Ballet Tony Hadley Herods Turn Really Sucked!
well that's just your opinion man
True, and yours is yours.
Murray Head showed Judas very real human fear. You cannot help but feel sorry for Judas. Delia Morris
Roger Daltrey is amazing in this! But then I think he’s amazing in just about anything...
He's an amazing singer and actor. I would've loved to have seen him play Scrooge in A Christmas Carol at Radio City Music Hall in NYC back in 1998.
What part does Mr daltrey play. I believe Jesus is played by Ian Gillian of deep purple fame. Listen to to his scream tortured at times . it's The same vocal my woman from Tokyo.
@@michaelchester8540 Roger Daltrey plays Judas. I believe that Jesus is played by Tony Hadley in this. I’m pleased that he recommended Roger for his rôle, but I’m sorry to say that I’m not convinced by him in his.
I thought Judas’ death scene was SO powerful! More so than other bits that probably should have been more so, in my humble opinion...
Daltrey
That's all that needs to be said.
It sounds good live !
I first heard this in college. When i read the biblical quote my heart stood still. I still listen on Palm Sunday. Wow
1:25:49.5, heaven opens
Esta gra obra, de mis favoritas. Ellos. Esos flecos. Mientras viva. ¡Uno que es asina!
5 star 🌟 😇😇
Awesome! I love that spoken word version of "King Herod's Song." Thanks for posting!
For me, the original Herod's song is much better.
The original 1970 rock opera was so much better than this one.
1992 Aussie version is the best
other than the original, this is the best version. Roger nails it though. Frances does a superb job, but I'd give Yvonne the win by a hair.
@@Brian-xu9di Each year at Christmas and Easter I listen to this. Andrew Lloyd Webber is a genius.
honestly not even close in terms of feelings
@@lereveure ?????
I was 16 years old.....when I asked my dad to borrow some money.....he thought it was for a Fathers Day present....my greedy self....purchased the album.....49 years later......it is still one of the greatest road trip partner's......first time I have ever heard this rendition.....parts of it are so gentle.....yet there is still the rawness when needed......As a believer.....you would not believe how many times...I have asked people to give the album a try.....to get a glimpse of gospel message......
Thank you for saying this! Far from being blasphemous like some say I think it is one of the greatest vehicles for witness that's ever being created even if Lloyd Webber and Rice didn't even realise it! I still think there is something special about Steve Balsamo's portrayal of Jesus! God bless.

Daltrey's performance is a bit extreme. Hadley sounds boyband in comparison. The Orchestra sounds great though.
Почему-то все live-концерты - редкостный отстой. Кого ни возьми, студийная и живая запись - небо и земля.
😎
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Does this have a vinyl release?
Joey McCrea No this was never released on any format.
JCS Zone dang. Wish they would release it! It's so good!
Is that the original Caiaphas?
Victor Brox played Caiaphas on the original concept recording. Here it's Gary Martin playing the role.
No - but sounds a hell of a lot like him.
Daltrey kills it
garry m. bravo
Спасибо❤
Great !!!!
I Hate this version of Herod's Song
it sounds like Lucifer
Me too! I just comment this...
