    This is why I love the Turbofan Engine. The complexity and the engineering marvel is impressive.

    Wonder if you plopped a fog machine in front of the intake, if the fog would move through the blades to display how the air flows...
    Whatever, it'd look pretty friggin cool, I'm guessin 👍

      That would be interesting to try, but probably wouldn’t work to well since it’s not fully enclosed. Would be fun to try though

      🤣🤣. No, those were only around in the 80s and early 90s and were powered by nitro engines. 😆

    that's not a turbofan. its a turbine or or a jet engine. that model specifically is something that does not exist in real life. a first stage compressor running backwards driven off a second stage compressor??. A turbo fan is basically a ducted fan powered by a turbine. the flow of the fan goes around and past the OD of the turbine. 'high bypass turbofan'

      To be correct, it is a Turbo Jet. A turbo Fan has the super large fan you often see on modern Jet airliners - and they are HIGH BYPASS engines - more than 80% of the air is bypassed tru the fans and not the multistage compression.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  8 месяцев назад

      We’ll have to agree to disagree on that one. The multi stage fan element at the front is odd, I agree, but there is most certainly air feeding around the core engine. There are both low bypass and high bypass turbofans. A low bypass is categorized as having a bypass ratio of less than 2. In the commercial segment, The fans have gotten higher and higher bypass because they are more efficient and the podded installation suits it. But, lower bypass fans are still used in a number of military fighter jets. This particular ws-15 design is supposed to be going into the Chinese j-20 fighter.

      From Wikipedia: "The Shenyang WS-15 (Chinese: Wōshàn-15), codename Emei, is a Chinese afterburning turbofan engine designed by the Shenyang Aeroengine Research Institute and manufactured by the Shenyang Liming Aircraft Engine Company. ... Major application: Chengdu J-20" fighter jet.

    It's obvious to me that the person making the previous comment , has little to no experience with jet engines. The explanation given in the video was simplified yet correct.. TAB USAF Jet Engine Mech.

      Thank you, I appreciate that! The multi stage fan in this is a bit odd, but it’s most certainly providing bypass air around the core engine.

      I am a turbine systems engineer, for power generation. a "turbo fan" uses a turbine to power a large FAN from its hot section shaft. the FAN propels the aircraft. think an airliner or the A-10. This kit has NO FAN. it is not a turboFAN.

    • @kirkjensen1718
      @kirkjensen1718 8 месяцев назад

      from Wikipedia: The turbofan or fanjet is a type of airbreathing jet engine that is widely used in aircraft propulsion. The word "turbofan" is a combination of the preceding generation engine technology of the turbojet, and a reference to the additional fan stage added. It consists of a gas turbine engine which achieves mechanical energy from combustion,[1] and a ducted fan that uses the mechanical energy from the gas turbine to force air rearwards. Thus, whereas all the air taken in by a turbojet passes through the combustion chamber and turbines, in a turbofan some of that air bypasses these components. A turbofan thus can be thought of as a turbojet being used to drive a ducted fan, with both of these contributing to the thrust.

      @@kirkjensen1718 see the 3 gold colored wheels at the front of the compressor section?
      Follow the outer part of the air flow from them. See how that air flows in the black area, outside the area with the silver compressor wheels?
      That's called "Bypass Air". That means the gold wheels are fans.
      In this instance it's a low bypass fan. Not like today's high bypass fans that have a much larger first stage fan.

    • @kirkjensen1718
      @kirkjensen1718 8 месяцев назад

      in my world that is simply cooling air taken off the first 3 compressor wheels to cool the compressor, wrapper and power sections. a "turbofan" uses a fan driven off of the power turbine to provide thrust. The gold section is CLEARLY a compressor as it has reducing inner diameter and 3 stages. NOT a single fan like a turboFAN has.. That is cooling air bypass. ohhh and high bypass fans, as you state have 1 fan. not stages of fans. Compressors have stages. @@bumblebee2989

      Thanks so much for the sub! I’ve featured many turbine jet models others have built, but not so much many that I’ve built. I was in SoCal for a long time which was not very turbine friendly, so I focused more on edfs since I could fly them anywhere. Where I am now, it’s much less of an issue, so will probably happen as some point in the future. 😊
