I agree with all of the comments that say you are fantastic. This is true. No multi angle camera shots, no flames or other showy props. Just a great artist with their instrument and what looks like a drop cloth for background ( because nothing else is needed ) playing with ease.
Thank you for appreciating my work! Nowadays it's really hard to make a video that both looks good and isn't deceiving. Many people benefit the technological progress in a dishonest way and this teaches the audience to be way more critical than needed for enjoyment. I prefer to spend the time practising instead of editing for the sake of fooling people that I am something that I am not and that's why I played this in front of the camera 10-12 times in a row until it's good enough to present :)
Alexandra you are absolutely Awesome!! This is not by any means easy music to play and you just note for note killing some of the coolest riffs ever written by my man JB. You truly Are Gifted Sweetheart!!! God Bless You. New Fan Follower!!!!
Dear Alexandra; This cover might even be more amazing than your stunning take on "Altitudes." Your articulation here is absolutely perfect, and a thing of great beauty. I will follow your career with great pleasure! Warm Regards, Dave
There is some problem with the comments section. I contacted RUclips to address the issue and they told me they're working on it. Sorry for not replying - it's just a bug, apparently.
From just watching this and a few of your other covers it's obvious you are talented, but I feel that many underestimate the hard work, dedication and discipline that has to be put into carrying this cover in the spirit of Jason himself. Bravo. I watch your legacy to learn.
Thank you very much for appreciating the work! It requires a lot of effort indeed - it took me 2 years to learn this from scratch until it's good enough to perform in one take without mistakes...
It is nice to see that you respond and connect in the comment section so much. And as always, a great pleasure to watch you play. One thing I liked was how your hands/fingers were moving too fast for the camera at various moments, causing a blur effect.
An artist without an audience is nothing. So for the artist it's a must to have a communication with their fans. Soon I will buy a camera to shoot at 60 fps, so the blur effect will be gone ;)
Alexandra Zerner Official That is a good attitude to have, not all artists make the effort. As for the frame rate, it looks cool when your hands start to blur. Who knows, Maybe 60 fps still won't be enough. ;)
I still can't answer personally because of the RUclips issues with the comments, so I will try to answer the most common questions I get: - Tabs? - I learnt this track by ear, by slowing it down to 50% and listening carefully few thousand times... Jeff Loomis' video helped me a lot, so I suggest you take a look at it too: ruclips.net/video/ScMsdLKhiyI/видео.html - How long it took me? - It took me about two years since I started learning it. I practiced it daily, until I was confident enough to do the video. - Practise? - I do my best to practise at least 6 hours a day, as often I take a day off - usually one day of the week, and one day right before a gig.
Good job at pulling off a tough cover! Great seeing a Kahler trem being used. I have a Washburn Wonder Bar trem on my Gibson V. It is a mix of a Kahler & FR. Unfortunately Washburn was sued by both Washburn and Floyd Rose and had to discontinue making them. It never goes out of tune and has good sustain.... 🔥🎸🔥
Thanks! It's been a lot of work... I remember reading about the Wonder Bar and I was curious about why it disappeared. Thanks for the info! BTW, if you set up the Kahler well, it's quite solid :)
@@AlexandraZernerRocks Yeah, unfortunately Kahler sometimes gets some unnecessary ridicule by FR users... I would definitely use one. I like my FR on my Ibanez Prestige, but it can be a pain in the ass when using multiple tuning setups. Keep up the good work! We've enjoyed watching your videos as a new subber. 💯
I watch all your video's Alexandra..You're good at guitar and very perfectionist player..Keep the good work. You had a deep soul in your guitarworks!Cheers!
Wow! wasn't expecting this level of shredding from a lady. Very close to Jason's playing...this and that Jeff Loomis cover are the best renditions of this song.
Thank you very much! Luckily, Jason himself also thinks that way: www.guitarplayer.com/guitar-player-101/1025/jason-becker-on-creativity-perpetual-burn/54364
Dang! never read that... that's awesome! Glad to know despite being handicapped he still creates music and connects with fans. Heard he has an album coming up this year! Cant wait! Cheers and keep on keepin on!
I was very happy, when he announced the campaign for the album and I immediately pre-ordered a signed CD. Speaking of that, soon I will shoot a cover of "Altitudes" ;)
No tengo muchas palabras....has hecho una obra maestra en la guitarra en tu mente en tus dedos y en tu querer tributar al mas grande guitarrista de la historia....eres un ejemplo
I am glad that you like it! However, this guitar is now fretless - you can see it on the playthrough videos from my "Silhouette" album. I also made a review of it: ruclips.net/video/pQJEGrbsMHE/видео.html
félicitations, une belle interprétation de l’œuvre de l'immense Jason Becker. J'ai acheté l'album à sa sortie, il y a quelques années déjà...bravo Alexandra.
Wow, that is really impressive. And its all from one camera angle, which means you couldn't fix any screw ups by just cutting to another camera angle. This is all one take! Great job.
Thank you very much! I shot like 15 takes that day until I make it decent all at once. This piece is really very demanding and after 2 years of practising it's still very hard to make it without messing up.
You are the real deal!... I might give the edge to the Jeff Loomis version ,... but hell, he's Jeff Loomis. you just blew my mind, not because you're female,... because you are truly a Great guitarist!
There are a few exceptional covers on YT now, of this masterpiece. Someone has to raise the bar. Perhaps by playing it equally flawlessly while smiling into the camera. Well, I hope young musicians invest in their composing skills because technical proficiency is becoming suprisingly common. Amazing work, though, woman!
Your performance it's a great achievement, it's seems like a very difficult piece, now I think you are ready por Paganini's Caprices or some Holdsworth's musical craziness. You work hard.
I would definitely share this with Jason on his facebook or YT account. He really seems to LOVE it when people do excellent covers of his work. And this without a doubt qualifies as an EXCELLENT cover my friend. Great playing!!
+GrumpyMJK I am pretty sure he will see it, because he's following my page and my channel, and we're friends in Facebook. I don't want to bother him unduly.
I watch Alexandra's videos playing Jason Becker musics and think how great would be Alexandra Zerner and Paulo Shroeber making something like a "new cacophony" album. Are both two great players with clear influences of JB. Too bad he is not here anymore.
What an honor for you and you certainly deserve it. I did find the article that Jason mentions how you & Jeff Loomis cover this song which is really cool and such a compliment to your playing…congrats!!! I look forward to hopefully seeing more covers from the album like Altitudes or Eleven Blue Egyptians maybe :~]
Truly impressive skill-set displayed here! It shows you've put in many months, if not years to learn the techniques and hand coordination to play something that advanced.. Not many people understand the determination it takes to accomplished something that physically challenging.. Guitar virtuosos are much like athlete's in my book, you definitely take home a gold medal for that performance, thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! I am glad, that you have such thorough understanding of this process - not many people think about that. As a matter of fact, it took me two years to do this piece, from learning the first notes to making this video. So it's much like athlete's work indeed :)
Thank you for the kind reply Alexandra. I think it is very important for musicians to compliment and encourage one other, I think it helps spark inspiration and the creative process (which we all know can be a mental roadblock when there is so much negativity in the world these days) You have inspired me, even if I'm on a much, much lower plateau of 'technical' abilities, I enjoy playing in my leisure time when the fingers cooperate with me ha-ha. PS I have been trying to master the main solo to Mr Crowley for over 5 years, so if anyone understands how hard it is to mimic all the tiny details of a virtuoso, I certainly can relate :)
I can only be happy, that I inspired you! One thing I know for sure, that if one is dedicated to what they do, the efforts will repay and a good outcome will be present. Many people believe, that when someone execute such a difficult piece, they are certainly from a musical family, they had special support and so forth, which is rarely the truth. I, for example, have only one professional musician in my whole family history for the last 150 years, and this professional musician was born back in the 1870's... I had only the support of my mother, while being forced by others to get a normal job and leave that playing just as a hobby. I declined, and frankly, there were times, when my fridge was empty... there were days with no electricity... but I was still playing, instead of getting a normal job and leave music behind. I was playing on a wooden board with drawn keys for an year, because we had no money for a piano. The special snowflakes nowadays have no idea about such kind of struggle and devotion, but this is what makes the real artist/athlete/scientist/writer.
Aw man this is so refreshing! It's not the same! It's not the same hearing and seeing this great song played wonderfuly by different people! You rock Alexandra!

As a fan of all the virtuosos out there, I never really the notes that are out of place. I can tell you that this a pretty accurate cover of that song. You probably know that already!!! Thank you so much for covering this song. It shows us what it should been played like if JB was performing. I will probably sound a bit selfish here, but the sad thing for fan is there isn't a lot of videos of JB playing. Thank you so much, Pat! Actually, I hear some inaccuracies now, also now I know that I haven't used Jason's fingerings everywhere, but it is what it is. At least I corrected that in "Altitudes" :)
She did a very good job with this song, kudos to you! But the tone, accuracy and clarity of each note in jeff's version, sounds just like the original.
