I always thought this was an underrated track. Her vocals are amazing. And her look in this video is beautiful . So simple yet so glamorous. She can pull off any look. Good call on media creating a myth for you. This is true throughout our society. They create a myopic view. Btw I think it’s pronounced Meer-wah 😂

Yes, this is a love song to Guy Ritche ("Nothing Fails" and "I Deserve It" too) and the song "Intervention" is for her son Rocco.
The male voice is Mirwais, the album producer.

@@diacomolima2242 Rocco was born in August 2000 and the album was released in September 2000. When Rocco was born the album was already finnished and recorded 6 months ago. Rocco wasn't even thought when she wrote that song. Besides read the lyrics "this guy has danced for me, and I have danced for him, this guy has cried for me and I have cried for him, this guy was meant for me and I was meant for him" etcetera. She's talking about a man whose life has taken him to be there with her in that moment.
That's why she said that song is not for "any guy" but for her "Guy".

This is such an underestimated song. I hate the fact that it didn't have the hype that deserves. Even M's tottally forgot about this in her tours. Sad.

This video was directed by Luc Besson, who also directed The fifth element. It was made with high end visual effects for the time, and yes the video and song were featured in a perfume commercial.
Deeeeereck I remember watching this back when I was 8 year old. Still completely shocked with Hollywood's video. But this song is such a masterpiece. I remember thinking "OMG THOSE FAIRIES ATE HER!!!!"
I think the fairies are the converse of the crows in Frozen. Same imagery, but light and hopeful in "Love Profusion," where dark and bleak in "Frozen."

The Re-Invention Tour that promoted this album was also highly underrated. I hope you will react to it once you have completed the songs from the American Life album. It was the highest grossing tour of 2004 and sold out every performance but is still considered underrated much like the American Life album was at the time.
Also Most Grossing Female Tour of all time when it ended (already surpassed by other Madonna tours)
@Marvin Morawski it was forgotten because there was not a DVD release from it. I will never forget it as it was the first time Madonna did a concert in Portugal.
There was a blueray released from Lisabon. I watced it over and over back in a day... I love that tour. It's also first tour she did her older hits since girlie show. Cos on drowned World, she focused mostly on Ray Of Light & music

When you refer to the strings in this song, I'm not sure what you're referring to. Are you talking about the guitar? The major instrument in this song is a guitar strumming. It's not synthesized it's real.

Love your reactions! "Nobody Knows Me" from Reinvention Tour deserves a listen. Another big dance hit from the album. I saw her perform it live in DC, second song in the set after the stunning "Vogue" opening. She kept things moving . . . She also performed "Mother/Father" from American Life during Reinvention, and threw in a verse from Xstatic Process.

A lesser-known number from Madonna’s back-catalogue that, like so many of her lesser-known and balladic tracks, is a hidden gem. I’ve always appreciated and loved it. In particular, I’ve always loved the blend in this track of acoustic and electronic, of natural and of auto-tuned, of smooth and of staccato. .The lyrics, the music, the production values - in short, everything - are to a very high standard and just come together seamlessly and beautifully. In particular, the blending of the male voice with the female voice in the choruses and the bridge is something special and is one of those occasions where I like singing the ‘support’ vocal rather than the ‘lead’ vocal - it’s that special. Great reaction video, Dereck, and you have a lovely voice. Well done, and thank you. Eòghann

I felt the same way like you, Dereck when I first saw this video - however 16 years ago! It´s till one of my favourite M songs and I loved the simplicity of the video. She looked so natural and beautiful, so feminine and warm and yes her voice almost angelic.

At the time of this album, I was studying Kabbalah, and she was at the peak of it. A lot of the songs actually have to do with Kabbalah. For example "Easy Life" in kabbalah they say if you get something fast you lose it fast. You have to work for it so the lyrics are about that. I pick up lots of messages from the Kabbalah in almost all songs from the "ray of light " album and on. American Life has the most. Thanks Dereck ! My fave Madonna song
I always thought this as such a brilliant song on American Life. American Life is a protest album. This song is about the understanding that when you let go of the Ego you always have access to the joy found in the present moment. Putting a song about letting go of ego and finding peace in the moment is a genius addition to an album of songs that discuss the slings and arrows of culture and society.
Loved this video reaction, mainly because you sang for a large part of it - it inspired you that much - and because you actually sound pretty good! I'd love to hear you sing more, even snippets like this. As it happens, Love Profusion is one of the Madonna songs that I can sing reasonably well too, as it seems to notch downwards nicely into the male vocal range too. I don't think I still have it, but I even recorded a cover version once with a simulation of the male backing vocals too.
On that front, the male backing vocalist was none other than Mirwais (pronounced "meer-ways") himself, with a heavily filtered voice.
I agree that it's one of her best vocal performances, and that may be why it never made it to a tour. Although I think she was well capable of it certainly in the Confessions Era that followed, it's quite a difficult song I believe to sing live unless you are literally standing still or with a guitar.
Did you pick up in the video that when she's walking in the sky, it's on a "road" of petals, but she's actually walking upside-down on the underside of that road such that the sky is under her feet and the sea is above her head?
