Mariah Carey and Madonna have both made names for themselves as outspoken women in music who are not afraid to say how they feel about others. But no one is direct or brutal like #Cher. THIS! I think this is what separates them from celebrates like Madonna. Madonna (and like her) have no shame nor are humble...nor honest for that matter. Her honesty is just show to appear like she's a strong truthful person when in fact its just being rude and mean. Plus I believe Cher and especially Dolly really truly appreciate their audience and fans.

I remember the first time I saw Burlesque, not being too familiar with her work, and she came on the screen and I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. A true star.
Honestly I don't see any SHADE here. MADONNA is a great example of someone who loves to throw shade at others. But Cher just tells it like it is.
She's honest, direct, and doesn't sugar coat things, and I find that quite refreshing.
Madonna has no self humour about herself. Cher does.
I love it, how Cher just tells the truth, she doesn't give AF. Why I love her, she is real, hasn't lost who she is.
I adore Cher, and agree. I think Maddonna is the is the queen, was sticking up for aids survivors and the LGBQT community before the get go, she's an icon, a culture phenom, great musics amazing dancer. But would I say I'm a fan, nah, do I like her? Not that much lol

Cher really doesn't look so different than she ever did ... the cosmetic surgery has been done VERY well and it's her own business.
The lower lip implant is questionable but everything else looks great imo

I am almost Cher’s age and have admired her in every way since I first saw and heard her & Sonny. I will never understand how she was so sharply critiqued for wardrobe, when I remember Barbra Streisand accepting the Oscar dressed in a black see through pant suit that shocked and was such news then. How the unoriginal and clearly blatant “look at me” attempts by female entertainers, celebrities, newsmakers, etal, that barely have anything on and it isn’t fashion or well done nor is their body suited for it. She never had to imitate a person to be noticed (Ie K. Kardashian/Marilyn Monroe). She has enormous talent, she is by all accounts a generous and nice person w/o tantrums and lies. She has proven herself to be a well respected talent in singing, acting, comedy, drama, and has a wickedly honest sense of humor and isn’t afraid to admit to her struggles and successes and all else life has thrown at her.
Bob Mackie made her style world renown and Cher definitely had the body and savvy to carry that to the top .
It’s just unreal that other examples of comparisons are ignored when the critics point to Cher . What trots around the red carpet now or is seen in public at some random event or everyday life is a joke. And when someone mentions reinventing themselves…..Cher was way, way ahead of the pack in that, too. That’s usually all others have to offer is a photo op shock value nano second compared to a woman who has lasted in this business since she began in 1965 as a teen, carrying a #1 hit every decade of her career, along with Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, Golden Globe, Kennedy Honors, etc etc . Cher is the real deal .
Few others in the business equal her talents, honesty, moxie and success.

I remember once she was talking about how her mother taught her to handle negative events in her life. She said that her mother taught her that if it doesn’t matter in a year, (or some length or time) it doesn’t matter. In other words, bad things pass, don’t dwell on them.
No, SOME bad things pass, not all, dear. Her mother taught her to differentiate between temporary setbacks and trully awful things, not just to dismiss everything ''bad'' as you suggested.

People have always poked fun at Cher since the beginning of her career. I never understood since i always liked her, but i think a lot had to do with jealousy...for her success, for her thin build, for whatever.... but, through it all Cher has always been Cher, which is why most people love her !
Well, she is also smart enough to have a good sense of humour about herself, always. That is one of the secrets of success.

Throwing shade is the art form of talking trash. It’s used as a snarky attack or put down.
Cher is the complete opposite. She’s direct and honest but without being mean. She doesn’t need shade to defend herself. And that’s one of the many reasons why we love and respect her.

One of the main reasons why I love her so much is because she’s a bit self deprecating and humble despite being so iconic. She knows when to be proud and own her accomplishments and who she is and when to recognize her faults. She’ll always be one of my biggest inspirations

I love the movies with Cher; I’ve just re-watched some of them, and they are still holding up. It’s a shame she has not been invited to do even more acting than she has.

Cher is stunningly beautiful and I love her. She has always been strong. I just watched Witches of Eastwick again and she is flawless in it! To still be making music...she is so inspirational to me. I wish I had a career like hers. She has left her mark on history and it's a bright shining diamond.
