    DISPOSAL OF OLD COOLANT: DO NOT pour old coolant down any surface drain or sink. Pour it down your toilet and flush it away. It will then go to a treatment plant with the sewerage. Ethylene glycol coolant is extremely toxic to aquatic life, so if it goes down any surface drain it is likely to do considerable harm.

    Watching the video back myself, I realise I didn’t make mention of disposing of any old coolant. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE flush it down your toilet and DO NOT empty it into any surface drain. It’s extremely toxic to aquatic life (not to mention small mammals like our hedgehog friend)

      @@CubasAutomotive Yes, it was quite unexpected. It's quite rural where we live and they are a regular sight (myself and a neighbour both feed them in the hotter weather and she even has hedgehog houses in her garden). Across the UK as a whole though, their numbers have fallen drastically over the last decade. We see a lot in the lanes run over, that might be it or maybe the very warm summers we've been having.

    This coolant pump couldn't have been easier! Very well explained. The only thing I'd add is, be sure not to get any coolant on the serpentine belt, as it will damage the belt. It may produce a squeal. You can rinse off the other pulleys with hot water or brake clean, if any splashed on them from the job before reinstalling the belt.

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  4 года назад +1

      Yes absolutely. Very good point Cuba. Make sure that the belt and pulleys are dry and clean when re-assembling.

      Hi Orpheus, thanks. Yes, this same engine was used in a variety of VAG's small cars: Fox, Up, Polo, Fabia, Ibiza and maybe more. They are all much the same. Indeed I have got a couple of Fabia terms in the search tags, so I hope Fabia owners will find it

      @@CycloneCyd I'm sure they will. Popular engine.
      These cars are a joy for those wishing to maintain their own car. Affordable, and you can actually access most areas without either ripping your hands to shreds or removing half the car :)
      I replaced my front wheel bearings last month (Fabia MK1, same bearings as your car). It required a special puller kit but even that job was a pleasure to perform.

    Can I use the same method for a 2007 Skoda Fabia MK2 1.4?
    Currently my Skoda is dripping coolant and I suspect the leak may be coming from a coolant pump. However, replacing it has seemed to be quite a hassle until I saw your video. While setup you showed seemed to match my engine quite well, I would rather not brick my car in the attempt.

    In Finland old coolant is taken to same recycling point as old oil, old car batteries, unused paints, e-scrap and so on.

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  4 года назад

      Brilliant. Here in the UK we can take oil and batteries to the local tip, but not coolant or tyres.

    • @philtowle4683

      @@CycloneCyd our tip takes 4 tyres max. Surely if your head gasket had gone there would be coolant in the oil that would still be accepted at the tip?

    Cheers for the video mate, very useful. Can I just point out that you should not dump the old coolant down the toilet or drains at home or even suggest that. Coolant is very toxic and can cause serious damage to the environment. It should be disposed of properly, maybe with a trip to the local recycling centre. Thanks again for the video

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  2 года назад +1

      It is extremely toxic to the environment, which is why it should go down the toilet to the sewerage treatment works and not into surface drains which go to the rivers.

    I notice a lot of cars are now available with 3 cylinder engines. I am interested in your opinion on these, as long as they are looked after would you expect them to last as long/be as reliable as conventional 4 cylinder engines?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  4 года назад +1

      As you say, provided they are looked after, there is no reason a 3 cyl should last any less than a 4 cyl. They'll always be a little 'gruffer' because of the natural force balance.

      There's a O ring type seal on the drive shaft that fails. Quite common on loads of water pumps.
