I’m such a fan of this paint/dirt/sealer diy technique, and now you’ve given me more items to be on the lookout for at the thrift shops! I would’ve never thought to put the mortar on that little garlic keeper, but it turned out to be my favorite!
I recognize your lamp, I have one very similar to your thrift find. That style came out in the 80’s and was part of the Southwest decor so popular then. My lamp has been cream, rust and brown black. I just painted it back to an aged cream color. That shows a textured classic shape stands the test of time. Mine is 40 years old❤️
Definitely stands the test of time! I love hearing things like that, very neat. They definitely are great quality too! Like they always say “ they don’t make ‘em like they used to!” 😉
@@ValerieAguiar I drove my car 3 hours to south Florida to buy the same set of lamps!! I painted mine, cream white and tied large wooden bead around the lamp , Turned out marvelous!! love them
😉 I had a fatter mauve & white lamp like that back in the 80s too. Periwinkle blue and mauve were the big trends of day. Plus, I had geese with blue bows and blue & white spatterware dishes.
I am seriously so in LOVE with all your DIYs! I've seen the "found" vase technique with baking soda paint and/or joint compound too, but this mortar is incredible!
Thank you so much for teaching us how to take something old and give it new life. Sustainability is so important to our future. I love all the things you created here and definitely give it a go with what I have in the house. Love from UK ❤️🥰🙏🏽
Dina... I really appreciate your comment! You nailed it, exactly! I absolutely love repurposing old and tired decor and giving them new, updated life! Take care and have a great rest of the week! ❤️
Wow I your thrift stores are the best. I can never find any lamps like these or like the think tall one you did in previous video. I search hard and someone in my area must be scooping up all the good finds because you get some great picks at your shops. I love the transformations
Thank you for the feedback Carla! I will definitely do more of these in the future. They are fun and cost effective, such a win-win! :) Have a great week! 💕
I like using water based stains on baskets. They are so much easier to work with. No obnoxious odor like oil stains and easier to control because you can remove it with a damp rag if you put too much or do more layers to build up the color gradually. Watered down acrylic, chalk or latex paints will work too.
You are genius never saw that done adding dirt to painting, I have a vase made just like your lamp, it was many colors that were pretty but when I started changing colors to earth tones I want to make it look like yours, gonna try it, painting the way you did it makes it much easier for me, you don't have to be so careful, you can actually be messy I will be trying it, thanks....
Found the same lamp today at flee market, however mine was 40 dollars, I live in Manhattan New York, lol but will do exactly what you did to yours and buy a fancy lamp shade from Pottery Barn. Thank you for inspiring us
@@ValerieAguiar thank you so much, never thought was going to find the exact same lamp, I must have watched your video about 20 times, thanks for sharing!
Awe I saw Lone Fox do the same thing with the lamp!!! He mentioned watching a video doing it but he couldn’t remember your name! I’m glad to have found you :) His video is about 2 months old if you want to reach out to him to get some credit or maybe even collab 💕
☺️ Aw thank you Briana! I love his videos, I watch him too 😁❤️ I’m so glad you found my channel, we’re happy to have you! Hope you have a great weekend! 🙂
I always want to see the finished diy from a bit of a distance to get a total view. I would have liked to have seen the lamp shade with the finished lamp. And others as well. Thanks
That was a great idea to do with the lamp an the little vessel. Have to give it a go. I'm new to your channel an lm glad l subscribed your interesting to watch. Keep your vlogs coming. All the best. 👍😊❤️
Another great video! 😍 I’ve used Plaster of Paris to create texture on vases before, but they chip so easily. Does that happen with the mortar you use?
Lemme get this straight, You have a channel instructing adults to get out and play in the dirt, and they follow as you advise them to bring it INTO their homes? 🤣 Yeap. You do, I just subbed.
Yes!! I don't mind getting my hands a little dirty and creating something unique! PS ~ I appreciate your email and I plan on definitely looking into that! Thank you so much! 💕
I used coffee and chocolate in powder on my lamps and vases I tried with dirt and for some reason it was hard to keep the color after applying the sealer .
It’s so nice you get to the point without a lengthy intro. Your voice is so calming and most of your diy are exactly my taste. ♥️
You're too sweet! Thanks for all the love and support, Claudia! :)
Lamp w/dirt was a Restoration Hardware high end dupe.Great job!
So glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!

I would like to suggest that one could use the.mortar to fill the holes in that Garlic pot. Otherwise great job! Looks fabulous!
I didn't think woodstain would work on baskets because of all the nooks & crannies! Can't wait to redo my old ones to that colour!. 💖
Hi Sarah! Definitely do it and come back to let me know how it turns out! ❤️

Hi I'm new to your channel and I'm glad I found you I love this technique ❤️
Thanks Kim! I appreciate your support! ❤️
Great inspirational ideas. Have you tried the thin set mortar on something like a plastic flower pot?

Thanks for the constructive criticism Cathryn! I will note this and keep it in mind for future videos! 💕

Absolutely beautiful! I wanna do this but I would probably screw it up 😕
Hi Lanein! I'm sure you would be fine! More than anything, it's just a little bit time consuming. I have faith in you... you can do it! 💕
Pawn shops are a good place to get used tools like sanders. We have gotten some great tools at pawn shops. 😉
That’s right! I forgot about that! Great idea! ☺️
This was awsome
Thanks Merlicia! 💕

Another great video! 😍 I’ve used Plaster of Paris to create texture on vases before, but they chip so easily. Does that happen with the mortar you use?

For the lamp finish (RH finish)... is the final coat the clear coat or dirt???? Just want to make sure I do it right.
That garlic pot is for roasting garlic.
Thanks Maureen!
Will this technique work on plastic pots?
hI valerie when are you doing a cream lamp video
I used coffee and chocolate in powder on my lamps and vases I tried with dirt and for some reason it was hard to keep the color after applying the sealer .
That's a good solution! If I ever have problems with dirt, I'll have to check that out! Thanks for the tips! 💕
All of them
💗
Wonderful ideas but inspite of using dirt soil u could hv used clear sand
Thanks for the idea!
@@ValerieAguiar have you tried adding peat moss to the cement?
Gives a neat finish too.
Is the colour wet when you add the dirt?
She mentioned it's just barely still wet.
Hola, muy interesante tu canal, me suscribo. Un abrazo desde España!
Thanks so much Alicia! I appreciate you leaving a comment and subscribing! Have an amazing day! 💕
Is mortar similar to spakle?
Jose, to my understanding mortar is more of a concrete used to adhere tile usually. Spackle is more of a wall filler for holes etc.
@@ValerieAguiar thanks for the response. I’m subscribing :)
You can’t even see the finished basket 🧺 at the end!
Sorry Joanie! I'll make sure to keep an eye on that for the next one! 💕
👍
What is this decor style called?
I like to mix transitional and a bit of modern.🙂
👋
cinnamon would have worked better on the lamp
Hi Susan! I appreciate the feedback... I'll have to look into that! 😀
But dirt is free/cheap, and super creative. 💗
The lamp turned out great. Dirt! Who knew?
Right?! 😀
