I heard Pat sing this A cappella in Memphis at The Orpheum.....was really amazing the way he filled the entire auditorium with that voice so perfectly.
We just saw Sammy this past Saturday in Tinley Park, IL. He of course put on an awesome show. His band is phenomenal. But you can't go wrong with Michael on bass, Jason Bonham on drums, and the lead guitarist, Johnson, was amazing. Sammy signed every single thing that the fans threw up on stage. He makes atmosphere like the coolest party you've ever been to. And, who doesn't like Drops Of Jupiter? It's an even better song knowing it's about his mom. Thanks Sammy and Pat, for the music.
I seen him in 79 in San Jose for my 1st Sammy show great show after that and had to start playing guitar and still do,I live in the Sacramento area now he's playing 10/1 and I'm going to that show he's never a disappointment at whatever group or solo project he has done Red Rocker ROCKS!!!! never a bad
Just saw those 3 guys out on their boat here in SoFlo a few weeks ago. Jason has always lived here and Sammy just moved here. Cool to see them out and about in local bars too!
Didn't realize the meaning of this song but it makes complete sense. Hearing it with a new ear is amazing. Thanks for doing this one. Love Sammy Hagar though. Have a great day
My mom just pass today .I've been listening to this for the past two with my mom in the ICU even though she wasn't responsive . I will be playing this at her funeral sometime this week
Such an amazing performance at end with Drops of Jupiter. My parents are both gone now and this brought tears to my eyes. I've loved this song since the first time I heard it. Listened to Sammy with montrose and loved his solo work pre and with Van Halen. Great interview and performance!! This will change my day lying in a hospital bed for a week and forced to face my own mortality. This will set me up to face a new day here with the uncertainty of my situation. Much love to all 💗

Listening to this gave me goosebumps. I didn’t think the song could have been any better and I was proven wrong. Sammy and Pat together was absolutely perfect.
Hearing Pat Monahan's voice is like climbing into a warm bed on a cold night with silk sheets. There are vocalists with amazing voices like Paul Macartney, Billy Joel, Seal, Miles Kennedy, that are almost angelic. Plus this is one of my favorite songs!!! OUTSTANDING!!!
Hands down the best version of "drops" I've ever heard...Pat so honest in his voice and Sammy picking like he wanted to be on the album...love you both as artists and humans!
I grew up with hard rock, hair and glam, Sammy being one of my first favorite groups. Train has become one of my closeted favorites. I get ripped for liking them but Pat Monahan's voice is amazing and Train has many great songs. Pat also sounds amazing in concert. This song now takes on a new meaning, knowing he wrote it about his mom after she passed away. This was a really cool vid. Thanks for posting it.
OMG this was SO entirely beautiful. That piano player is great. Sammy and Pat what a treat. Made the whole song so meaningful when Pat’s talking about his Mom.
Thanks for following my page, thank you for the support and love ❤️ I really appreciate you 🥰 I’ll love to honor you by dropping me your personal information for a private conversation if that’s ok by you...❤️
I remember when I heard this song was about his mom. It all hit me at once and the lyrics started to make more sense and my reaction was just like Sammy. I cried too. Such a great song!
Absolutely brilliant. One of those songs I think that crosses all generational gaps and puts it’s soothing fingers into our souls and steers us towards a smile and some deep thoughts.
When my oldest son (now 28 years old) was about 5 or 6 we lost his favorite aunt. Before she passed from the time he could talk when he saw this Aunt he would always tell her she is so pretty, even the last time he saw her he told her how pretty he thought she was. A few months after her passing this song came on the radio, I didn’t know for sure the meaning but I was listening and thinking of her. When the song ended my son said to me “mommy I really miss Aunt …”. I was in tears Now for the next 18 years, if something challenging was going on in my life like my husband in the hospital in the ICU, our house burning down, it would suddenly be playing on the radio within 24 hours of the event. As soon as I’d hear the song I knew it would be ok. The only reason I don’t hear it to much anymore is because I don’t listen to the radio. It is ironic that a patient I was very close to passed away a few days ago, and I’m second guessing if I would have worded things differently to the family maybe things would have ended differently. Sometimes it’s so hard working in healthcare, I did it to help people, and when things don’t end well I feel like a failure.
Being a fan of Sammy for so many years, it's easy to underestimate how versatile he really is. Besides the musical side, he's always bringing "it" to the table when it comes to his interviews. I bet even he never saw himself doing this new career (kind of) in his 70's. Very cool
Wow ,,, Sammy ....😟 ,,,,, I really didn't know how this one was gonna go ... I know this was about his mom .... maybe it's the day , maybe I'm just sentimental . But listening to this version , I really missed my son .... He's at Parris Island , Marine Corps boot camp , right now. He graduates Sept 30th ... Just got a letter in the mail today from him . I'm so proud of him . I miss him . He's finding himself "out there" ..... This hit home .... Thank you. From anyone it really meant something to ,,,,, thank you .....
Pat’s voice and talent has always been amazing. I remember him doing a cover of Dream On on MTV’s Icon and it was just like the listening to the record. Even Steven Tyler was blown away.
Been A Fan of Sammy`s all my life,I am 52 and play lead guitar in my Band, I love music,I love alot of songs, But never had one touch me like that one does . Drops of Jupiter is a Timeless Hit. and I`m greatful for it. Thank you

I love the humility of both of these guys. I was working as part of the local stage-crew at a Van Halen show, right after ‘For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge’ came out. 1991 I think it was. Anyway, I had worked many shows over the years, and would go on to work many more. ($60 for 18 hours of work; 2 sack lunches and a free concert 😊). All that to say, Sammy was BY FAR the most gracious I ever encountered. Before the show, he had all the roadies & tech crew, etc to gather, and he jumped up on a platform and gave a little impromptu speech, thanking us all for our hard work and saying something like, “If you all didn’t do what you do, we couldn’t do what we do.” It was truly incredible. Thanks for reading this lengthy account, but I just had to share.
You guys are so cool being out on water in a boat! Always a fan of both of y’all! Love to hear y’all haveing so much fun & enjoying the great outdoors!❤️🌟🌟KGM

Little story too cool not to share. Family and I were in Maui, few other couples with us and we run into Pat. Everyone's excited and he had (HAS) a cool vibe about him so we all felt comfortable to ask if all the kids could take a pic with him (his group went into a shop so he was by himself on the sidewalk). He scrunched in with all the kids and right before the pic he yells WAIT!!!! FUNNY FACE!!!! And all of them made an awesome corky FUN pic. What a cool dude and thank you Pat for being real and down to earth with the kids. God Bless!!
My wife and daughter saw Train in Bend with Jewel in Early August 2022. Loved you both. Mother-daughter bonding forever! Thank you Pat and Sammy!! Great interview.
Definitely a career defining song. The piano intro itself is amazing, and then vocals and melody kick in. Pure goodness. And Sammy one of the best and most recognizable voices in rock.
As a country music fan, I had never heard of Train, or rather the name Train. I distinctly remember hearing Drops of Jupiter for the first time, shortly after it came out as I was driving on Laurel Canyon going over the hill into LA. Became a Pat Monahan / Train fan at that moment. Great singer with so much raw emotion.
For my mom. Forever missed and forever loved. The best mom anyone could ask for. Just so kind and such a sweet soul. Dad you too. But once my dad was gone it was kindve over for my mom. Miss you two. Life’s not the same. Thx Pat and Sammy. Never knew this was about your mom Pat. ❤
I lost my mother not being able to see her though the pandemic... Just NOW knowing what this song is about I can't stop crying.... Always loved this song... Now it's forever etched deeply in my soul... I miss you mom...

OMG, Love This~!!! I'm a forever-long Sammy fan (before, during, & after VH) and became a fan of Pat immediately upon first hearing Train (years ago). Great stuff~!!
Just saw Sammy last night in SLC. LOVED THE SHOW! My husband said it's most likely the most complete VH concert we'll ever see. This episode is very cool! Who doesn't like Drops of Jupiter?!? Rock on fellas!

Sammy can always find a way to join in & leave his mark on a jam session! Love this, & I never knew this was about his momna😥. Whole new meaning for me ..
That doggone "Drops of Jupiter" struck me after September 11, 2001. I would see it on MTV or VH1 as a kid in high school all the time after that day. It was a beautiful song to me then, and it still sounds beautiful today in 2022.
Aw just finding about the story of Drops of Jupiter♥️ Before knowing this , I would play this over and over and over again because my youngest daughter transgressed in 2013 , and I could actually feel her when I play listen to this . Thank you
Before I knew who the song was written for, I thought it was about and lover that travelled the world and then came back. I love this song. Great video!
One of my favorite songs. Ever. And I love Sammy’s acoustic work. Wow. Survivor of 27 years of DV. For years I sang this song loud, feeling empowered, and it got me through some tough times. Now I sing it with joy. Thank you, Sammy and Pat ❤️

If there was any chance of hanging out for the day, with a rockstar, Pat would be that guy. Genuine, down to earth dude. One of the best vocalist in the bizz. Saw Train out in Vegas at the joint over 20 years ago, for the first time and was one of the best shows I've been to.
Man Pat sure can still belt out the tunes. Always been an amazing voice and would have loved to seen him fronting Zeppelin for a reunion tour all those years ago when he offered.
So I'm sitting here cruising RUclips and run across this and I'm torn because this song ALWAYS chokes me up. It's almost life changing when you force yourself to listen anyway and find out what the song was about doesn't make it any less so. Thanks for such a meaningful song Pat!!
Love Sammy Hagar. I did a electrical job for a guy who had an autographed guitar from Sammy, who said he's the most humble down to earth super star he'd ever met.
I was walking in Lake Arrowhead California a guy was docking his boat and asked me to hold the rope and help to pull the boat next to the dock....that was Sammy Hagar and his wife
Beautiful song thank you for sharing with us!Since I lost my Mom, my best friend a few years ago, it means so much more to me & it brought tears & joy & because she was a person who kept living her life until the end! ❤🎶🙏
Touching on relevance, my wife and two daughters watched Train for free in SF. They did a cover of “Ramble on” and a lady Jazz singer was next to me and she said “that’s been done” They performed Calling all Angels and Tiffany said she could feel her Grandpa Jack looking down on her. A great band and Red Rocker, you sounded great vocals and guitar. Pat and the Piano man great as well. Staying relevant is important when your in the music biz, but being original is best.
Hey kids, no autotune. This is what real talent sounds like.
Probably the only person in the world to say "train is an example of real talent." Hahahahahahahaha
Got that right! Fantastic!

Thank you
They're talented as hell. A 3x Grammy winning band!
One of the best performances on Sammy's road trips. The audio was excellent too.
Pure vocal talent. Look at where they’re recording. Skills.
So good.
Dude has a freaking amazing voice. Amazing live. No auto tune. Speechless.
Even if you do not like these guys ...... his voice is mint. This is live no autotune, just talent.
This has auto-tune. You can here it.

Pat's solo album is excellent. 53 and still spot on with his tenor. And, he sang it in the original CMaj. Such a talent.
Totally agree! Whoever didn't yet, listen to "Always Midnight". Pat is such great singer and songwriter alike…
And chillin in a high back chair

I respect that Sammy knew that song was out of his range and that the guitar was just filler. The performance wasn't made to be about him. Good stuff!
True, but he still was able to really add to it. At first I thought he was going to sit out the entire thing, I'm really glad he didn't.

It’s rare to hear even a pro nail their own songs with this proficiency. That was like listening to the original. 👏👏👏
Simply a song for the ages. Gets me right in the heart every time...
Wow, no damn words, just wow. What an awesome 13 minutes that was.
That was amazing!!!
Love both these guys , I saw Sammy on his I can’t drive 55 tour with Kronos opening for him, it was awesome
One of my all time favorite songs
Yeah hearing who the song was about brought a tear to my eye watching this....such a beautiful song and my favorite too.
Love it. Goosebumps ⚡️
Touching on relevance, my wife and two daughters watched Train for free in SF. They did a cover of “Ramble on” and a lady Jazz singer was next to me and she said “that’s been done”
They performed Calling all Angels and Tiffany said she could feel her Grandpa Jack looking down on her. A great band and Red Rocker, you sounded great vocals and guitar. Pat and the Piano man great as well. Staying relevant is important when your in the music biz, but being original is best.
I didn't know that Pat wrote this to honor his mother's memory. Profound song. Thank you Pat and Sammy.
