Here is another one that I have made: When you design your cover keep in mind how it will look in the preview. I made a more pastel cover with a font with fine lines and no big contrasts. It looks pretty good in its original size, but now I have uploaded it and saw how it looks in the preview, I realised it doesn't look very good. You can't actually read the title on the cover and the design I have created is also barely visible. I think of redoing it, because I don't think it will sell that way
Thanks for this video Paul. I was creating series for my journals, notebooks, etc....Amazon allow most of them, however, after watching this video I went back and deleted all the series containing my no/low content books. Your knowledge regarding "all things KDP" is very much appreciated.

I was starting my journey from your video in kdp and I uploaded 29 books. 4 books are children books,1 book story book and remaining notebooks, journal and composition notebook. In the end of month September I got 3 sales and I got some KENP reads in my childrens books. Thanks for your videos. I started my journey from scratch. And I'm from India.
Trade marks oh yeah, my first book has my original artwork and it took them over a week to verify it was my work. Once they verified it, it now only takes the 72 hours… now finally getting the uploads are finally working for me🎉 I still usually have to go back and tweak my work. But this on me..😂😂 spell check & grammar so doesn’t like me…😂😂 live and learn. I’m still new with KDP and loving it, and totally yes I am not going every book in the same category…. I did find out that when I did a sketch book, you cannot have all your pages totally blank I have to either number them or put something on each page.. like I said live and learn… thank you again Paul great information and encouragement…
Hello how this channel has helped me a lot, I will give you some advice regarding copyright. If they close your account is because they used the images of characters or brands and (When you close an account you can not open another one ever again). Regarding titles and other text things Amazon does not allow them to be published and you have to edit the text so do not use trademarks to earn more money because in the end they will close your account and you will not earn anything.

About the keyword staffing, I always try to avoid this mistake but when looking at a lot of books that have really low BSRs in amazon, especially in the low content, I see that actually they do Kw staffing often and they make a lot of money, I am confused how Amazon deals with these publishers.

So I published my first notebook on KDP! I was super excited and today I my account was terminated.. because my book was misleading customers. I thought the description was 100% accurate. Anyone else with this problem.

As a professional book editor of many years, I would like to add that verbs (short ones, long ones, medium ones) should *always* be capitalized in titles and headings.
These videos are great; I like learning the create software - so no content/low content publishing gives me an outlet....I only just published 10 journals with some creative covers (that I like anyway). I have taken all the key word advice; I have no series; I did not have any rejections -following your advice. But now...would love to hear from more people who have sold (how long did it take, journals seem to be pretty saturated)---also, how do we know the print quality? AND finally, how can we get more images of the work (showing the pages inside - for example - because even though blank - there is some variety offered by Gumroad. Also, showing the back cover for some of my own creations is good because the back and the front are different :) Anyway - thanks - great content! (PS: I am using Vista Create, when downloading the completed cover to PDF I do have an option for "High Quality Printing" - but I want to know the quality of the paper/printing by Amazon...any feedback on this?)

I was planning on loading them as a series. Also, I will publish two sizes. Should they be a separate series and can/should they have the same title? Basically, I am giving buyers color and size options.
I don’t have any trademark issues, I just am not getting sales for some reason. I’ve tried to follow all your other videos and I still haven’t made any sales.
There are are many factors to consider, niche choice, cover design, keyword use, pricing etc. It can take time to learn this business, experiment, improve and get sales.
Trademarks are a real can of worms. First, you must check the trademark category then, if you check and it is not trademarked, it does not mean it won't be later on. Even more crazy for example, the image of the Eiffel Tower by day is in the public domain and can be reproduced without authorization. However, its image at night, with various illuminations, is protected and subject to prior authorization and payments of rights. Of course, the image taken by private individuals for personal use does not require prior agreement. So yes, even buildings, monuments can be trademarked/protected. It is a complicated subject!
Hi Paul, thanks for this info. I wish I had watched this or researched more before starting. I just wanted to quickly walk through the process to check out all the steps. I made a Bible study journal and use the term “Waymaker” Bible study journal. After watching this video I discovered Waymaker is a trademarked word. I’ve heard it used in church most of my life. I’d hate to get my account banned over something that was virtually a test. I don’t plan on doing journals. It’s already been submitted, so I guess it’s too late? Thanks again.

Hi Paul, thank you so much for your videos, they are very helpful. In regard to the title keywords, is the title field indexed together with the subtitle field? For example, if someone tried to be original in the title, but still gave major keywords in the subtitle, does Amazon utilize both fields for hybrid searches? Here is a made up example: Title: Name That Bird Subtitle: Nature Log Book for Kids Will Amazon show this book if someone searches "bird log book" or "bird book for kids"? Or are the two fields completely separate in this regard? Thanks so much! :)
HAHA - I made a couple of these mistakes with my first few notebooks unfortunatly you cannot change the subtitles after publishing. I am using uncommon title names but that is due to the niche I am in each is named after the featured art. I wish I saw this video 3 months ago XD
Regarding margins, on a children's book, I am also the artist. My thoughts for simplifying the illustrations on the page would be to keep the important subject in the middle, then the illustration as it gets close to the edge, to be the least important. Question: Would this work regarding margins, less worry of rejections, or me being disappointed with results?

Anyone can sell your book. They may buy your book and sell them or, if they get an order buy one of you and send it. It’s not a bad thing. If they get a sale it means you will get a sale.

paul, the adding numbers to the interior pages do no work! i did those exact numbers and it found errors. saying i should add .375 to one of the edges it was so frustrating.
Thanks for the video. Can you please help me? When I upload my word document for my book the review looks completely different and all the chapters are out of Sinc. There are also large spaces too between chapters sometimes. I have tried a PDF document and that makes no difference. Can you please help me?
I think when using word to create a document for a book it adds in formatting code that you can't see and will mess up the formatting when you upload to KDP. Therefore it's recommended to use an alternative. The last time I created a written book, which was some time ago, I used Scrivener but I'm sure there are free alternatives out there.
I suspect it might be. If you try it they will tell you if there is an issue. BookCo would probably have a better chance of going through but might look or read a bit odd.
70% of best #1 rank books are in completely ridicules categories. #1 Kids Maze book is listed under optical fibers, and galaxy notebook is #4 on the list.
Good day Paul Marles, I designed my interior using 6.125 x 9.25 but was still getting the error sign during the preview section on kdp upload and it was having bleed, any suggestions?, thanks
What does it say is the actual error? You may have gone outside the margins or you've not clicked on the bleed box or background images don't go to the edge of the page. Could be a number of reasons.

Disney does not mess around with trademark violations. They'll go after the smallest creator for any of their brands, including Marvel and Star Wars.

Yes you can use the same title if you wish. You can’t publish them as series. They all have to be published as individual books.

Thank you for this excellent information, Paul. I’ve made two journals since watching and am about to upload and order proof copies. I have a question I haven’t been able to find anywhere. Do the journals hold up well under typical use? Since they aren’t designed to lie flat, do the pages start to fall out over time?
I've bought and used books I've created and I foind them to be of good quality and never had any issues.

I'm confused about the bleed dimensions - in particular if you add .125" to 9" on the side - why does it equal 9.25"? Shouldn't it be 9.125"?
Because 9" is the height, so you ad 0.125" to the top and .125" to the bottom of the page.
Hello Paul, thanks so much I found your toturial useful to me and I have been trying to upload my back cover on Amazon KDP using the exact process on your video and yet the cover of my book can't be uploaded. Please is there something am missing because I have tried not working
It's impossible to say from the information you've provided. Do you have the right size for your size of book? Is it in pdf format?

Confusing if you choose bleed so you can have image go all the way to the edge, but then have to stay within margins? Can Anyone explain this?
Content that you don't want to risk getting cut off has to stay within the margins.
I followed your steps , step by step Feb 2022, and they rejected it not giving me the actual reason why (you can't say Notebook as the title anymore I'm guessing?)
Yes you can. It can be any number of things. Most common is the author name. Avoid using keywords in it.
If you have multiple coloring books of a similar style (although different subject material), can those be in a "series"?
I've seen publishers do that.

Do you have any videos on how to fill in the tax form that is required, particularly for UK businesses, on Amazon? I've read that UK qualifies for tax treaty benefits. We would be paying tax in the UK anyway on any earnings. Also do we need to ring the IRS for an EIN? Or can we use our UK unique taxpayer reference? Thanks in advance.

Can you explain why my kdp amazon paperback book has more sellers than one? 2 or 3 sellers on some of my books, and they haven't even been printed yet!?! selling my book for very high prices, sometimes as used. Anyone can sell your book. They may buy your book and sell them or, if they get an order buy one of you and send it. It’s not a bad thing. If they get a sale it means you will get a sale.

Hello very new to KDP. My questions has to do with the title. So if you put your title as Low Milage log book does that title have to appear on the actual book or can it just be labeled Log Book on the physical book?
the title in your listing has to be the same as on the book front or spine

No. Same happens with many books, especially this time of year. I suspect it comes down to the capacity of the printing machines.
paul, the adding numbers to the interior pages do no work! i did those exact numbers and it found errors. saying i should add .375 to one of the edges it was so frustrating.
Would "Dogs & Hats" be considered a keyword filled author name?
I think that would be ok. The biggest issue is putting things like notebook, journal in your author name.
Can you do Spiral binding using KDP?

Thanks for the video. Can you please help me? When I upload my word document for my book the review looks completely different and all the chapters are out of Sinc. There are also large spaces too between chapters sometimes. I have tried a PDF document and that makes no difference. Can you please help me?
I think when using word to create a document for a book it adds in formatting code that you can't see and will mess up the formatting when you upload to KDP. Therefore it's recommended to use an alternative. The last time I created a written book, which was some time ago, I used Scrivener but I'm sure there are free alternatives out there.
Do you think ending my name in Book Co. would be an issue? What if it was typed together, like BookCo.
I suspect it might be. If you try it they will tell you if there is an issue. BookCo would probably have a better chance of going through but might look or read a bit odd.
70% of best #1 rank books are in completely ridicules categories. #1 Kids Maze book is listed under optical fibers, and galaxy notebook is #4 on the list.

What does it say is the actual error? You may have gone outside the margins or you've not clicked on the bleed box or background images don't go to the edge of the page. Could be a number of reasons.

The keywords on the right? It's AMZ SUggestion Expander chrome plugin.
