- Lots of people visit Mexico City and many of them make it a point to visit the famous Frida Khalo Museum, I mean of course! She’s an artistic and historical icon in Mexico and very culturally important. But when I ask those same people how they enjoyed Coyoacan, they look at me like this: (blank stare - crickets).
I’m shocked at how many people go straight to the museum and then leave the neighborhood and MISS OUT on the charm of Coyoacan! So today’s Mexico City travel guide episode #2 is to make sure you DON’T miss out on our favorite part of Mexico City!
Coyoacan is known for its rich history, vibrant culture and artistic legacy. We actually live a few blocks from here, and we hang out here a lot, so we’ll be showing what we love about Coyoacan including some hidden gems that lots of people miss even if they do visit the neighborhood.
Welcome to part 2 of our Mexico City Travel Guide Series! Today we’re exploring the neighborhood of Coyoacan it’s main points of interest including a few hidden gems you won’t want to miss.

My wife and I spent 12 days in Coyoacan recently, staying just south of the Viveros. We walked all over Coyoacan, Chimilistac and San Angel. I loved it so much! Coyoacan is 💥
Nice! Viveros is amazing 😍 we have yet to explore San Angel and it’s so close to us
@@EatBailaTravelParroquia San Jacinto in San Angel has to be one of the most beautiful spots in Mexico. The Frida and Diego studios are worth a visit as well.
Thanks so much for the tips! 🤗
I think it’s great when you interview people about their work and experiences!
We noticed him watching us film and he approached us and said “those are my paintings” 😊 we got lucky he was willing to chat about his beautiful artwork!
Same! Y'all should add more of this to y'all's videos 😍
Oh, yes. Coyoacan absolutely is my favorite barrio in CDMX, I always stay there. It is all of Mexico in a nutshell. And, I had been wondering for a while what happened to the "baila" part of EBT and here I could see my favorite couple dancing again!
Haha it’s been a struggle to keep up with dancing! But it’s still a part of us 🫶🏻
1. Hi guys!!!
2. Yes, how can they just go to the museum and not explore Coyoacán! When I went back to México after almost after 28 years, I visited CDMX por que ahí nací and went to Coyoacán and I fell in love with it!.
3. love the music in your video! Almost left my desk to dance to la cumbia....
4. Thanks for sharing the history!
5. Love the fountain! We didn't know we needed to reserve for the Frida museum, so we didn't get to visit...
6. Awwww el baile en la plaza reminds me of my late grandparents... 🥲
7. Qué bonito the art culture!
8. El mercado está increíble! Creo que si fui....
9. Parque Viveros! Well, we missed it too but one more place to visit when we go back...
10. Went to Coyoacán at night time and got a limpia ancestral from this group that was dancing Danza Azteca
11. We got churros that are vegan friendly in churrería El Moro and they were delicious as well!
THANK YOU for sharing guys! Sigan disfrutando!
I’m staying in Coyoacan for seven days at the end of October- I can’t wait to explore!
Love Coyoacán for all the reasons you listed: the tranquility, el mercado, tostadas, churros, Frida, art. I could go on and on!
So much to love about Coyoacan 🥰
This video was soooooo good! It's exactly what we needed to watch to plan our own trip to coyoacan :D Keep up the good work y'all!
Glad you enjoyed it! Excited for your upcoming visit to CDMX! 🤗
In Coyoacan now and enjoyed all your recommendations! Thank you for your videos.
You are so welcome! I’m so glad you enjoyed Coyoacan 😊
We support the "barrio magico" movement!!!
Hahaha thank you! 🤗
That’s a hooded oriole on the cactus painting. It’s gorgeous!
Cool! Thanks ☺️ ya learn something new everyday
@@EatBailaTravelyou’re welcome! Heading to Coyoacán mid-May! Thanks for this video - I cannot wait!
@MidCenturyModernAdventures you’re gonna love it!
BTW there is a nice walk from Coyoacán passing through Chimalistac and up to San Ángel. You can take the Francisco Sosa street all down up to Universidad Avenue, then walk through Arenal street where you will find the Taglet park, you cross Miguel Ángel de Quevedo Avenue up to la Bombilla Park, there you can explore Chimalistac neighborhood. After that you can cross Insurgentes Avenue through Av. La Paz Avenue (there are several restaurants there, including my favorite French cuisine aka "Cluny") up to San Ángel.
Ooh thanks so much for the tip! I’d love to take this walk
Just found your channel, got a trip to CDMX coming up and it will be my first time to Mexico. Let me say I love how informative your channel is, the educational component is appreciated. Thank you so much. I am definitely taking notes on all of your vids about Mexico City. Thank you 🙏🏾❤.
Estoy muy orgulloso de ser Mexicano gracias por mostrar mi México lindo y querido. You doing a great job
Thank you so much! 🙏🏽
The tip to buy tickets online just SAVED US! We had no idea, and they were already almost sold out.
Sweeet! Make sure to buy as a Mexican national!
Great video. I visited Coyoacan when i visited Mexico City and loved it. Keep up the great work guys.
Thanks so much!
We are going to Mexico City from California for the first time in September. Uno de los lugares que vamos ir es Coyoacan. My favorite piñata that I saw in your video was AMLO'S y La Chilindrina 😊👍
One of the best videos you guys have made recently, coyoacan looks like it would be a nice place to live
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it
omg I've never seen such teeny piñatas!
Well take you to check out the piñatas when y’all come. Saludos
Awesome video. You both remind me of my husband and I when it comes to talking to people and shopping. El danzon is an incredible dance that brings people together. The food stands look delicious. Looking forward to visiting Coyoacan soon with the family. My daughter would like to visit the Hello Kitty Chateau Cafe.
Great video guys! I love how you threw some Spanish in there. Really exercising my right brain left brain! 👏
Glad you enjoyed it! 😁
Coyoacán during día de muertos was insane! We really loved the vibe in the plaza! And I would have gone mazapán too Jenny! 😂
The Halloween vibes in Coyoacan are awesome! Yay mazapán for the win
Excellente! Next time I'm going there for sure. Thanks again!
Please do! 😊
So terrific.Want to walk the area....I want the Frida vase. Love her work and respect her attitude and outlook on life... 🇲🇽
That is a beautiful one! I was tempted to take it home actually 😅 same, she’s amazing
Love the video. Coyoacán is such a cool place. Hola desde Los Angeles.
Thank you! Saludos LA 🫶🏻
Like always...great video.!!!!
Thanks, darling!
Love, love, love Coyoacan. Thanks for the video. The only museum there is the Trotsky Museum which is also worth a visit.
Museums are a whole ‘nother beast of tourist attractions in CDMX because there are so many! Haven’t heard of the Trotsky museum thanks for mentioning it
🎉Looooove it! Thanks for the tour! I can’t wait to experience it for myself with my family🤞🏽. Hasta luego! ✌️
I’m sure you’ll love it! 😊
Been to Coyoacan thrice! Love it there.❤
Glad you love it too! 😊
Coyoacán is a place I can keep going back to and never tire of it! This episode had me waving nostalgic. Halloween and Día de Muertos there are the best!! Just behind La Plaza de la Conchita is the actual Haciende de (Hernan)Cortes, it’s now a popular breakfast/brunch spot and in front of the plaza is the casa de la Malinche. Also located in Coyoacán is La Casa Fortaleza del Indio Fernandez, who modeled for the Oscar Statue. It’s a must visit during Día de Muertos! And a walk from El Centro de Coyoacán down Avenida Francisco Sosa (the most beautiful street in the world!) you’ll come by Plaza Santa Catarina where you’ll find Merendero Las Lupitas touted to have the best atole (it is!) and there’s is also Casa de Cultura Jesús Reyes Heroles. I could go on and on! You’re in such a good spot in CDMX! So happy for you that this is where you decided to settle 😊
Oh my gosh yes! Halloween in Coyoacan was insane 😅 so cool!
Ooohh snap thanks for mentioning the actual hacienda! We’ll go look for it. Is the food good there? La Malinche had a house there too? No way! Didn’t know that! Thank you soooo much for all these great recommendations 🤩 Coyoacan truly has so so much to offer
I can’t say if the food is good at the Hacienda because we were on a bike ride and only stopped to use the restroom and look around (as terrible as that sounds!) but definitely worth the walk over. I can say for sure that the two restaurants in front of Plaza Santa Catarina are delicious and a must when in that little area. El callejón del Aguacate also has an interesting history there. I was hoping to be there for Día de Muertos but decided to go to Colombia this year instead, thanks to your videos! 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Awesome video guy's ❤
Thank you so much 😁
We love Coyoacan! That park is amazing and of course we ate tlayudas! You're right, there's so much more than the Frida Kahlo house, though of course that is wonderful to visit. I bought some beautiful artwork in San Angel--have you been to the market there?
Not yet! San Angel is on our list to explore soon 😊
This was awesome! Def on my list to see. And as far as the emoji I would say 🌈since without colors just isn't it
Love it! I agree
🍻 this is my emoji to describe Coyoacan because their Micheladas are aaaahhhmaaazzzzing! Oh and you missed the taqueria Borrego Viudo. I have family in Alvaro Obregón and on the weekends we'ld go to Coyoacan! I LOVE it!
Haha that’s perfect I love it. Do you remember where you had a good michelada in Coyoacan? Yum thanks for the recommendation!
I only see that taqueria el borrego viudo on the map in Tacubaya. There’s one in Coyoacan?
Another great video! Is there a place in Mexico City like Hercules in Queretaro? I loved that place. I'm heading back to CDMX in a few weeks but haven't found anywhere with that kind of variety of beers on my previous trips. Thanks guys!
Love Hercules in Qro! And there may be and we just haven’t found it yet so we’ll keep our eyes peeled 😁
I love all thr mini pinatas, can't just pick one. How much do these go for? These are a great souvenir idea.
The mini ones are $25 mxn pesos each 😊
My fav place in CDMX… I would go there on Sunday to have cafecito & walk around. Love the vibrant energy in Coayacan 😍🥰
And señor Marin wasn’t there when I lived there or I would have bought his art.
Also- had no idea on the Frida park .. or the Viveros park 😟
I prob would have lived close to there bc of the park
Yesss the energy in Coyoacan is unmatched in the rest of CDMX! It’s truly special.
Is is very busy on weekdays? I would think the weekends get crazy with tourists.
@@ReneYanez-z9t Yes it's normally very busy on weekends but a good busy. We love seeing people enjoy their evenings in coyoacan.
Beautiful Mexico ❤
como jarocho les puedo decir que una de las mejores churrerias de mexico, esta coyoacan
😋
Hello! I’m going to Mexico City in a few weeks and now stopping by a few places you noted! But I can’t seem to find the exact address for the Hernan Cortes home. Would you be able to pass that on? Thanks!
Hey Deissy! The Hernan Cortes house is at Jardín Hidalgo, one of the main squares, you can’t miss it!
Named after my grandmother! 😂 17:00
🤭
Hola, Jenvin, I'm loving your channel! I've started from the beginning and wonder if you're able to create a playlist that plays all from the beginning? Thank you!
Also, Jenny, Since I went back and started from the beginning I saw how you seem to have improved in your health issues pretty quickly after the first several videos. It looks like the move to Mexico helped you so much! I think it has a lot to do with the good, fresh food there. I had similar health issues and doctors also down-played my symptoms as 'in my head'. A naturopath helped me make a plan to get rid of toxins and I started a clean eating lifestyle, including getting rid of gluten. It changed my life completely. Only when I allow toxins back in do I get the symptoms again (and that includes stress). I hope your symptoms are much better, it looks like it!
Thanks for showing us Mexico from your POV.
Hey there! 🤗 thanks so much I’m so glad you’re enjoying our channel 🫶🏻
Yes I can definitely create a playlist for all videos and make it easy for someone to binge watch 😬 thanks for the suggestion! I’ll call it “Binge EBT All Videos”
Health has been such a journey for me! Many ups and downs that I haven’t documented on the channel, mainly because when I’m not feeling well I’m usually unable to vlog. I have made lots of improvements though and have thought about making a video to talk about it, especially with how our move to Mexico has impacted my health! Thanks for mentioning this and reminding me of the idea.
And yes, toxins play such a big role in inflammation issues! I focus on an anti-inflammatory diet as much as I can, low impact exercise and stress management. Takes lots of work but we can do it 💪🏼
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Love your whole look Jenny 😍
Aw gracias Vane 🥰
For anyone interested in Frida Kahlo you may be interested in visiting Diego Rivera’s house in Guanajuato. 👍🏼
Oohh I wanna go!
Vamanos
my favorite neighborhood. the best. i went to la coyoacana for the mexico-argentina world cup match. place was on fire. i wound up there for 15 hours and am still not totally clear how i got back to my apartment.
one, sometimes terrible problem, with the neighborhood, are the many church festivals. it's not uncommon, unfortunately, to listen to rockets all night from one church after another, like on the hour, every hour. it can be hell late in the year. (that said, i'm typing this from coyoacan right now haha).
😆 haha that’s awesome! Sounds like a heck of time! And yea, I know what you mean. We don’t hear them as much from our apartment so we must be just far enough from the churches but we do have a lot of noise from the street traffic. That’s CDMX 🤷🏻♀️😅
Hi guys, Jenny I finally got my Mexican passport (Dual now) thanks to you! I'm heading to Mexico City In Mid-April, what restaurants do guys recommend for a family reunion for about 40 people that would have good food, mariachis and good prices? really enjoying your videos!
George from Chicago.
Yay, congrats!! 🇲🇽🥳❤️
Oh gosh, our favorite Mexican restaurant with mariachi and good prices in CDMX is La Coyoacana. You should call to ask about being able to bring 40 people because I don’t think they normally accept reservations
Another option so under rate is the Diego and Frida studio house in San Angel. It is not crowded and the neighborhood is equally nice or better than Coyoacán.
Definitely gotta check that out! Thanks for mentioning it. We haven’t explored San Angel enough
You guys Spanish sounds pretty good it sounds fluent 🫡
Thanks! It’s our first language even though English eventually became our dominant language.
nice!
Thanks for the visit!
boy I'm always telling people don't sleep on coyocan ..would love to live there
We love living near here! Only down side for us is it’s just a bit far from the salsa dance scene over in Roma 😅
How is the water situation there in CDMX?
It’s dry season so without rain water access has been limited, but not too bad. Our landlord simply asked all residents to be extra cautious with our water usage
I'm going in may..we're you affected by the water crisis
Hi, we were advised by our landlord to be more cautious with our water usage but aside from that not so much. The water issues vary by neighborhood and building. Our building has its own reservoir so we are less affected than many others.
How far is the Frida Musuem to the Coyoacan Market?
It’s a 5-7 minute walk
@@EatBailaTravel Is it better to pay in pesos or US dollars?
@@ReneYanez-z9t You always gotta go with local currency
You guys are so cute!
😁🫶🏻
hermosa
🫶🏻
Is it even worth going to Mexico City right now? Was ignorant to the water crisis and didn’t find out till after I booked my ticket (suppose to go later this month). Staying just north or Roma Norte and La Condesa but I worry about even those places having water rationing. So yeah maybe it’s best to bite the bullet, lose money and not go. Maybe it’s not the most ethical trip as I’m thinking the poor people there have it the worst.
Mexico is going through a water crisis for decades now. There are a lot of reasons why but you’re right poor people are the ones who suffer because they’re pushed aside. We will put a spotlight on this topic soon.
my favorite neighborhood in cdmx 💜🥹
Yesssss ours too! 😊

Thanks for watching!
No es un bolero lo que bailaste se llama danzón (Música del danzón, en compás de dos por cuatro y ritmo lento)
🙈 ahh siiii cierto!! El danzón! Gracias por aclararnos la duda 😊
Que sabroso comen.
La verdad que si!! 😋😋
🇲🇽 🌮 🍲 🌲
Perfect 👍🏽
Coyoacan is a Nahautl word meaning 'place of the coyotes' - English explanation of some of the Spanish words/phrases would be appreciated! I want to be a better Spanish speaker and improve my Spanish vocabulary.
I'm pretty sure they did talk about that in the video, there was a part in there where they showed how the word was broken down.
Sure thing! We try to explain a few things here and there and sometimes we start speaking Spanglish without thinking about it. It’s part of who we are 😁 hope those little tidbits help challenge some Spanish for ya
I didn't mean to sound like a hater! I love your channel and watch all your videos and have learned a lot from your adventures about Mexico Thank You for providing this video resource for everyone to enjoy!@@EatBailaTravel
Your content is so dope. The YT algorithm needs to push this channel more. Saludos!
I appreciate that! Thanks 🙂 have a great Sunday!
Guilty, Frida y nada mas. 😟 It took the whole day.
It’s super common! But Coyoacan is so worth its own visit 🥰
@@EatBailaTravelNext time!!😊
Exactly! ☺️
don't think that's a hymmingbird depicted atop the saguaro. looks more like a mockingbird. 🤓
You’re right it’s not a hummingbird! I was speaking based off my memory and confused it with one of the smaller paintings that did actually have a hummingbird on it 😬
yes, saw that after I made the comment - 🥴@@EatBailaTravel btw, Jenny was rockin' that sexy top! 😎
Those things they give out at church is the bread and body of christ and was very disrespectful for over a billion Christians. Would you say the same about Muslims, buhdist. Other than that I enjoy the vlog. Peace ✌️!!
Totally understand! Apologies for the joke 😬
that looks like a hooded oriole?
You’re probably right! I misidentified the bird
I love yall videos but at 4:42 the husband gives me controlling vibes. Like let her pick whatever she wants I’ve noticed this in one of the videos where she talks about her health. With fybromyalgia. He forces her to get up when she isn’t feeling well. I get it they do this for us but don’t be so controlling. Maybe it’s just me 🤷🏽♀️. It just seems like very serious not a “just playing” delivery
I appreciate you looking out! There are many days where I ask him to wake me up at 9am or don't let me sleep past 10am and he will not wake me up even though I ask him to. On this particular day, he actually did as I asked 😆 he really is kind and patient and supportive and let's me have my way most of the time, promise!
